  • wow TG16 has such better games than this. People who made this emulator were clearly smokin pcp. Turbo has much better games than that.

  • Nice review. I've been wanting to see how this looks on a small screen and it's pretty impressive. I like how they put game screen right in the HuCard slot as though the screen were on the card itself.

I agree that the bias toward the TG16 back then really sucked. Especially with the popular gaming magazines bashing it left and right as well as giving low scores to almost every game that came out like maybe they were being payed off to do that.

I don't go by mag reviews anymore.

  • @Shrapnoid72 The funny thing is that the Sega Arcade games that came out for TG-16 are better then Sega Genesis Mega Drive ports. The app has been updated with a analog stick that is much better. It might feel a bit weird at first but it plays better then then the d-pad that is in the video.

  • @mp4podcastDOTcom, I've noticed that with Altered Beast. The sprites and sound effects of the PC-Engine version are very close to that of the arcade version with only the backgrounds suffering a little from lack of detail but, the Mega Drive/Genesis port is reversed.

There were some sega games that looked poor on the PC-Engine though but, I suspect that that may have been something deliberate that Sega enforced to keep the PC-Engine from making Mega Drive look weak.

  • @Shrapnoid72 Well the PC-Engine is a 8-Bit dual system maybe that's why some games look a little better on the Mega Drive Genesis because that is a real 16-Bit system.

All in all I think PC-Engine is the better system it just was not marketed as good as Mega Drive Genesis.

  • I also want to say that it's nice to hear someone give a proper history of the TG. The TG is a 16 Bit console. Period. :)

  • @avenuePad Thank you. The TurboGrafx-16 PC has been updated a little with better controls now so it even plays better then in this video when I reviewed it.

  • My brother just showed me this app on his iPhone 4 a few days ago. I have an Android (Nexus S) and run the pce.emu app, but I think it's fantastic that there is an official TG/Hudson Soft app out there. I hope an Android app gets ported. More people have to experience the joy of the Turbografx/PCE. :D

For the record, even though I have TG ROMS, I also own many of the original games. In fact, I will normally play the ROMS as testers to see if I will buy the real deal. :)

    Great review!

  • I really hope they add Castlecania Rondo of Blood into the mix. Also, Raiden kicks ass.

  • @nophysicsman They add a few games about maybe four months ago they should be adding more games soon I hope.

  • I can't seem to buy the games in the app. When I try, I get a message that says "Error Message". Do you have any idea what is up? Thanks :)

  • @AnthonyOnBass I think I had this problem when I restored my iPhone. I think the Apple server is having problems. I was able to download the games I bought the next day. I also had the same problem with the Capcom Arcade box as well.

You can try this just so there are no problems delete the app and turn of your phone and restart. But only do this if you have still having problems in the next few days.

  • Heh, I haven't seen people using the 'two 8bit processors' myth in quite a long time. It's not, it's just a single 8bit cpu (which is faster than the inefficient dual cpu setup at half the speed). Also, the analogy of the Pentium I and good video... if the P1 ran at 1000mhz - would be much closer to TG16. TG16 has two 16bit graphics chips. That's what makes games look 16bit, on any console - not the cpu. If the Genesis has a high speed 8bit processor, games still wouldn't look any different.

  • @malducci Thank you for clearing that up. I just did not know how to explain it the right way.

  • @mp4podcastDOTcom I just bought 5 of the games today. Gradius, Salamander, Soldier Blade, Adventure Island, and Bonk's Adventure. Pretty Much the main titles. Are there any more Retro Gaming Emulators for the iPhone/iPod Touch?

  • This is freaking awesome dude! What do the games run? Are they set price or do they vary by title?

The app screen with the TV/TG16 was very cool and the blade selecting was slick.

  • @NEScapades All the games are $2.99 and the emulator is made by Hudson Soft NEC and believe me when I say this they play great just like the real thing.

I hope to review all of them maybe one a week.

I'm going to put a link to your channel in the drop downbar. About when you got your TurboGrafx-16.
