  • Hey.

Just bought my first rc plane, also a multiplex mentor. How did you re-inforce yours? only with tape?

Im thinking flower sticks, and gaffa on the weak points you show.

Nice videos! Looking forward to fly the plane

  • @martinblenstrup Hi Martin

I did indeed use only tape and nothing else. 1 Completely layer of fibre-tape, then covered with coloured tape to protect it from UV damage, and to give it some colour, which you can see in one of my other videos...

I wouldnt put sticks in it if I were you, as the trick seems to be, for it to have some "bounce" which keeps it all in 1 peice. Make it too rigid and it will just snap, or, bend and stay bent rather than flexing back to its original shape.

    Good luck :-)

  • What the heck, 1 dislike and no comment as to why?

C'mon folks, if you going to hit the thumbs down, at least tell me why.... Play nice :-)

  • @123RCUK I find there's almost always a single thumbs-down on most of my vids too -- I guess you can't please all the people all the time eh? Wow, your receiver and ESC are expensive -- in fact your receiver cost more than some of my entire models! That's why I tend to stick to cheap-Chinese gear, even for my jets and 50cc petrol plane. Never had a radio-problem yet and I've saved thousands of dollars. Sorry about your misfortune.

  • @xjet Hiya mate

Thanks for stopping by to watch my vid :-)

I'm really not worried so much about the cost, and I've seen a guys lose a model due to cheap crap going wrong on them, so if its a model I have put a fair bit of time/effort into, I "feel" better flying it with quality gear..

I dont mind a dislike, but would be "nice to know" what was disliked..

I'm still very new to RC vid's, so am still finding my feet a bit :-)

I like your vids though mate :-)

  • in most electric planes, i always try to put everything behind the batt, so you sont bust anything

  • @minameisjake Hey Jake, thanks for stopping by...

You have not owned a Multiplex Mentor yet then have you...

While that is ALWAYS a preferred option, its physically impossible in this model, and lots of models, even real aircraft too actually due to balancing issues and weights...

I may be a relatively new to RC, but am far from new to things that fly :-)

Hey, if your near Surrey/S-London then hook up for a fly sometime...

  • @123RCUK na mate lol i live in derbyshire, next to yorkshire, in the middle, no, i never owned a mentor, i have a Easy Glider Pro and a Couple Of Microjets, come to think of it, they both had the rx infront of the lipo sooo, bit of a hypocrite, never crash my microjets yet, but i have broken 2 reviers on my easy glider pro, when the crash, it pop out of its little hole, just to get hit by a battery!

little request, could we have a workroom/worksop/shed tour please??

  • @minameisjake Hey Jake

Sure, what sort of things would you like to see specifically or know from it?

I'm not sure what a tour of my desk or shed would show people unless you tell me what sort of things you want to know or learn, but am happy to oblige if I know what points people want to learn from it :-)

    Thanks

    Rich

  • @123RCUK just your tools and planes, always looking for new ideas to do stuff

  • @minameisjake Thats do-able... I had the same questions when I first got into RC flying about how do people store their models, what tools do I need etc etc... Might do an episode on that... Will give it some planning over Christmas and see what I can put together mate...

I like to do things a bit different to "Heres my model flying around the sky" as thats a bit boring, and everybody does that...

Am working on an FPV tutorial series too, from the last 2 years of FPV planning...

  • @123RCUK lol i fly fpv more than my usual planes, ime even using it in my art gcse, if u want any help, if u aint already, sign up to the fpvuk.org fourm, loads of helpfull people there

  • @minameisjake Have seen that one several times, just never enough hours in the day to join everywhere...

An Art GCSE @ 32, good on ya mate... Hope it goes well :-)

  • @123RCUK lol yeah

  • @minameisjake My bad, already a member of FPVUK as "123RC"....

  • I noticed the elastic band on the nose to stop the canopy flying off in flight, the same happens to the Mentor in my Hangar too, even though it has never been crashed and is in mint condition. Some magnets embedded in the foam removes the need for the elastic band.

  • @FrostbiteUK Hiya Frostbite... The rubber band was actually because I broke the clips that held it on normally.. With the clips, no rubber band was ever needed, but needless to say, the new canopy now has magnets on it as well as the clips. (Rubber band looks bad)

Thanks for stopping by mate :-)

  • Now you're a real modellor Rich :)))) welcome to the club.

  • @Macsgrafs Hiya Mac... Still not doing bad, I've had 3 "incidents" that have cost me a model, and 2 of those were my fault... The other was flying the Parkmaster into a tree branch, and getting it down wrecked it...

Thanks for stopping by mate, good to hear from ya :-)

  • @123RCUK I will let you into a little secret...when I started flyign I lived out in the sticks & there were no computers....50 models later I could fly!!!!

  • @Macsgrafs Jesus, 50 models.... Thats proper "Burning a hole in your pocket" time... Bet you never forget your first crash though huh?

  • @123RCUK My first crash......impala 2 channel glider..1 x PAW 0.19 deisel & no throttle (pinned it wide open), the glider went into power loops totally out of my control & smashed hard into the deck from about 200ft!!! Total carnage mate. That was in the late 80's!!!
