  • im lookin into gettin one of these, there are 2 at the dealer for same price. one is the sport with a 5 speed manual and the other is the 4dr auto and has 10k more miles on it. both are under 140k miles...any suggestions?

  • BEAUTIFUL CAR!

  • Love this gen, back when they were trucks...you could take them ANYWHERE I climbed the side of a mountain in 4lo the other day like nothin in my '96...if only Ford kept this style and just updated the V6 to the new 3.7.....

  • This is personally my favorite generation Explorer. Clean truck indeed!

  • I have a 98 Ford explorer sport like this one too. i like it as well, the only thing is that when you want to accelerate fast the RPM x1000 goes way up to high, which makes you have to let the accelerator go till the RPM lowers down again. But can easily make 65 MPH in 5-7 sec.

  • @chepe707 its supposed to do that. you obviously have the 4.0L SOHC V6 like mine. my 97 XLT does 0-60 in 7 seconds.

  • @FPGT24 yeah, take a video of your explorer lets all upload a video and see which one accelerates to a certain speed at a faster time.

  • @chepe707 I have a couple vids of mine up, including a 0-60, check em out dude

  • @FPGT24 i saw your video, looks pretty good, explorers sport are pretty darn great.

  • @chepe707 mines not a Sport (thats the 2 door only), its a 4 door XLT. thanks for compliment.

  • @FPGT24 ooh, its still nice. ill try to upload a video of my 98 explorer sport.

  • @chepe707 alright, ill sub to you

  • I hope to get this for my first car, is it a reliable car?

  • @XxCACKOLINAxX I see quite a few older explorers I wouldn't see why not.

  • @XxCACKOLINAxX yes they are best selling suv for a reason the ford explorer.

  • @XxCACKOLINAxX yes they are, depends how much you use it, but i do 2 weeks with 50 dollars

  • The five-speed takes time getting use to. It shifts different from other cars I have driven. It feels similar to a DCT like most cars the gear winds out this though it shifts into the next gear right away. I love it gives you that quick go go for merging into traffic.

  • Explorer owner how many of you guy like the leather seat on this explorer?

  • What the fuck is that noise around 3:00-3:20? The thing sounds like it's shitting itself.

  • @stuntmanmike37 bad ball joint

  • the transmission on the 1995-2001 1995-2001 for Sport Ford Explorer

    Transmission

    5-speed M5OD-R1 manual

    4-speed 4R55E automatic

    4-speed 4R70W automatic

    5-speed 5R55E automatic

  • I Find it Intreasting how the Explorer of Gen had a 5 speed Auto.

  • does the engine shake

  • @kostl350 No if your engine is shaking you either have a vacuum leak most common a bad upper intake gasket very easy to replace then your engine will not be shaking.

  • Great first ride i love mine too

  • im 16 and this is my first car. runs great.. highly recommended

  • @iDougiez im 16 as well and im trying to decide whether to get a 1992 pontiac firebird or this

  • '

this SUV how many cylinder in a motor

  • can u say rollover

  • im considering this as a first car

  • @1thetweekmaster I recommend that, they are a lot of fun because they are pretty tough.

  • @blueorchid1100 i just need to find a good deal on one lol

  • @1thetweekmaster Yeah, all of them in my area are pretty expensive.

  • do you think it would make a good first car

  • i mainly drive city and could use a tune up i still avg btw 13-14mpg. mine is also 95 with 180k 4x4 sport. good truck though, fun to drive esp in winter

  • ........and he didnt go very far

  • watch the gas gauge lol

  • @Jeppe772 why do u say that watch the gas gauge?

  • @Whitecrackertrash theres a noticable difference from when he starts off and returns in the video..i.e. these trucks are gas monsters.. i avg 13mpg in mine

  • @Jeppe772 no the v6 sohc engine explorer get 18 city in 23 mpg on highway they are good on gas, now the v8 explorer is a different story lol.

  • hey i got a question,did any of the explorers from 1996 to 2002 came with a 2.5L engine????

  • @akirules1887 No, the Explorer has never gotten a stock 4 cylinder, only the 4.0 v6, or the 4.6 v8. And now the 3.5 v6 and soon to be (possibly) 2.5 Ecoboost.

  • @akirules1887 No, the Explorer has never gotten a stock 4 cylinder, only the 4.0 v6, or the 4.6 v8. And now the 3.5 v6 and soon to be 2.5 Ecoboost (Maybe).

  • @SrpskaCCCC my dads '93 aerostar 4.0l does the same sound (:

  • To the guy saying hey likes the noise of first gear in this. Dodge ram vans do the same thing if not louder. It sounds pretty good but the exhaust sounds better

  • Of worst cars I ever had i still wondering which on is worst: a '98 Explorer or a '99 Lada 110. BTW, I owned a dozen of cars, half are commie one's made in Eastern Europe and Russia.

  • @SrpskaCCCC i love that sound too! i woukd rive that thing just to hear that lol!

  • Battery low??

  • what happened to the stereo?

  • hey it would be awesome if you could test drive a tahoe 2010 or maybe a gmc yukong 2010 :D

  • Nice ride!! The Ford Explorer is my second favorite car from Ford. 5*****

  • My truck look the same on the inside

  • the gas mileage for this vehicle the 2wd ones? :)

  • i really enjoy your videos. i can tell you take alot of pride in your work.

  • @SrpskaCCCC

Wait that's what that is? thought it was the fuel pump lol.

  • @falaqdad15 its a whine in the 1st gear of the old Ford 4speed and 5 speed autos. I absolutely love that sound, idk why!

  • I am looking at a 96 Ford Explorer V8. It has 170k on it, but it is going only for 1800, and it has a brand new sticker, with new tires and the works. Is this a good deal?

  • now i know why they call them ford exploders.. but do they ALL get tranny issues after a lot of mileage..? or is it just a lemon type deal where only half of them get the problem? or is that the XLT version?

  • @SrpskaCCCC apparently Ford Transmissions do this because 1 St Gear uses Spur Gears as opposed to Helical cut gears which are used on all gears in most transmissions except reverse because they are quieter but less efficent.......i LOVE that winding sound in First Gear

  • I love how the engine sounds!

  • ive got the same explorer with 150k, its much faster than this one, just sayin...

  • Those 4.0L V6 engines in the late-90's Explorers were wonderful.

Like you said, they aren't the fastest things in the world, but you also have to consider that the Explorer is an SUV after all.

They just sound amazing. Can't wait to put a K&N intake on the '98 Explorer Eddie Bauer I was promised. haha

  • @SrpskaCCCC Itr brings memorys back for me. Love it!

  • @Motorfordtoyota I grew up with the best ever (4 crown victoria's with the 4.6) they made a whine sound in first gear and that brings imediate memory's. Man the crown victoria is the last true american originated family sedan.

  • @4rdt0ugh08 I know, I grew up more around Toyotas, but, that whine takes me back to when I was a kid going for rides with my grandmother in her 92 Aerostar!!

  • @Motorfordtoyota I have seen your name on God knows how many videos, and let me tell you, over the last year, I have gone from absolutely hating Ford to loving it more than Chevy. Which isn't saying much, but I just like them now, and have a new respect for them.

  • @HedgehogOutdoors thats nice for you.

  • @SrpskaCCCC best sound ever

  • I got the 98 4 Door I like it its quiet and the SOHC 4.0 is quick and the ride is smooth if i use cruise control on the highway I can get 23 not bad.

  • I love the whine in the transmission in the initial acceleration! It reminds me of when I was a kid with my grandmas 92 aerostar, She stil has it> But im only 14 and cant drive! I hate new fords, but love the old ones!

  • @Motorfordtoyota haha yea my dads car does that too. i think its a ford thing. funny how a noise can bring back memories

  • @williamtword it just does. You know, certain things just spark memories!

  • Can you try to find a Ford Aerostar to do a full review on? maybe a test drive? Thanks!

  • Nice truck!!!

  • hey i can see that you got a pretty hard foot XD

  • my mom and dad just got me my first car a 2001 ford explorer sport 4X4 so sweet

  • @RJones279 oh you are lucky... i also want a death trap as first car

  • very nice video can you do an video of an Chevy uplander or Chevy venture?

  • That Gen of Explorer is my favorite. I liked the 95-7s for the Neon 3rd brake like, but the style exterior refresh of the 98-01s is nice. And that SOHC 4.0 V6 is awesome. Love the sound of the OHV 4.0 V6 though.

  • i liked those things, my mom had one, those things sounded good when it was in high rpm's still in 1st gear, loved the autotrac 4WD system.

  • this reminds me of my grandmas 1998 2 dr explorer but it was standard transmission and it was black not red

  • well i am getting my first car soon what u reccomend (used between 1500-3000)

  • Nice explorer.

  • did that have the 4.0 ohv or sohc?

  • The Late 90's Explorers are my favorite cars, well, ever.

  • Explorers rock, the 4.0 engine is really nice. I've had some issues with the suspension components cuz they're kinda weak. It handles great though, more like a large sedan.

  • my 05 ranger has the same dash lol Ford let that truck go to hell

  • Have you ever gotten pulled over by a cop before?

  • i had an 99 4-door explorer that was 4 wheel drive. it was crap. died after 140,000 miles, but gave me numerous problems before. it didn't even run but the people at cash for clunkers took it. thank god.

  • @SrpskaCCCC If you think the Ford RWD transmission makes a good whining sound, you'd love the Allison AT-540 transmission in the older gasoline school buses.

  • did you really have to throw it in gear like that at 1:10 "lol" i'm just messin wit ya man

  • I have a 07 Mountaineer with the 4.0L. The sound for a V6 is awesome. The power is a little on the low side, but with the stock 3.73 gears, it make the truck seem a lot faster. I love the gearing Ford put with the V6.

  • Really is a throaty engine, I don't like having short gear ratios though, even though it might help acceleration, it kinda ruins the sound of the car. I'm guessing this car will sell fast, one the radio is in.

  • Nice! Hey Kyle, could you review the Avalon at Brandon Reeves? TIA!

  • So many rattles!

  • @Memphis35 lol its a Ford product. what do you expect. haha Shame alot of those vehicles were traded in for cash for clunkers.

  • Have you ever been pulled over during one of your test drives?

  • Have you ever been pulled over during one of your test drives?

  • good to see osme of those stll around still :) tons of those got killed cash for clunkers last year

  • @crystalscan2002 Yep. This generation Ford Explorer was the #1 most traded in vehicle for Cash for Clunkers.

  • @ElectroGhandi its sad since i would of loved to have good limited 2001 :D whats the mpg on this generatiion are v6s that much of gas pigs

  • @crystalscan2002 it's about 16 city 20 highway

  • That's a good sounding SUV, much better sounding than the Escort 2.0 you drove.

  • @1bentley4ever they sound like a monster with a cold air intake

  • @musclecarfreek04 I bet they do!

  • these things have the most uncomfortable seats in the back in the world

  • Awesome test drive, the acceleration parts were awesome, god i love that winding sound!!!!

  • hey i was wondering could you do a review on a 1998-2001 nissan altima and a review on a 2000-2003 nissan maxima

  • great job! LIKE!

  • How much gas does it drink? European messures if you call tell me!

  • Nice truck! Acceleration is pretty good too!

  • It would be nice if you could talk about the vehicle more while driving

  • Sounded like it has close gear ratios.

  • @SrpskaCCCC I do, especially in the marquis!

  • If you get a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt LT, please review it, with acceleration (floored) or something... Cause I want to buy this vehicle this year !

  • @222Panther222 will do!

  • @222Panther222 get a civic . Cobalts are amazingly unreliable.

  • Thanks for the upload man! That 'acceleration' bit was awesome! Did you floor it?

  • @Joe0079 yep, pedal to the metal lol! The 4.0L isn't the quickest thing in the world, but it does the job

  • @saabkyle04 was that the SOCH v6 or the OHV

  • @saabkyle04 Thats odd my uncles 99 explorer 4.0 will rev to 6k before up shifting and it has 221,000mi on it

  • @saabkyle04 is it a ohv 4.0L i mean does it have pushrods?

  • Is this truck a repo.?

  • @rootbeerfan6 nope, if anything is ever a repo, I will mention it

  • @saabkyle04 hi, i know that this is kinda a stupid question but why are repos all so well nasty.

  • Have you ever been in an accident while filming a test drive?

  • @adam7ification wow, what a question lol, no I haven't, I drive safely on much less populated roads so no worries

  • nice vid kyle ford has nice trucks
