I saw it was addressed way down in the comments but worth mentioning again. The red-haired fella on the right was a great radio DJ known as "Red Noize". I worked with him at Z93 a classic rock station in the mid 90s. Unfortunately cancer claimed his life. I don't remember exactly when the funeral was, but I believe it was early 1995. He was a great guy. I believe he also DJ'd back in the day at Denver's KILO radio.
@jasondavisdotcom Actually it was KILO in Colorado Springs. . . . I remembered him right away by the voice! lol Never saw him in person unfortunately. Did not know of him passing away, so sorry to hear that. RIP old friend.
@dmine45 I Saw The Commercial When I Order My "Freedom Rock" In Cassettes. But I Should Order The C.d's Instead To Late. It Have Some Good Songs From Late 60's & Early 70's. This Commercial Aired In Late 80's.
I remember watching this commercial when it came out and was relevant! Wish I could get that certain grouping of songs now! There are some real gems mixed in this collection! Gonna post to my profile so I can mess with it for a while! Decent!
lol at the smoke on the water song and the Lynard skynard song, neither were hippie songs! to funny. and Elton John, the B%### with the tiara didn't come out till long after the freedom movement. But yeah ever since way back when my friend I always do the Hey man is that Freedom Rock bit. Lot of strange looks from the younger naive genertations.
Since you can't order this anymore, I wrote down all the songs from this commercial, went to Limewire and downloaded them all, and now I have "Freedom Rock" on my MP3.
This must have been one of the first mail-order albums to be available on CD. I don't have this, but I have an 8-track called just "Freedom" circa late 1970s that's sort of like this.
Im pretty sure this isnt the original Freedom Rock ad though. The original commercial was played constantly during the 80's- several years before CD's were at all common. I think they redid the commercial once CD's took off.
LOL at people who DON'T listen to Sweet Home Alabama by Skynard. What is racist about that? You mean about They love the Governor BOO BOO BOO, where they were COMPLAINING about him? The song was a response to a Neil Young who WAS racist with his songs in question. Although anyone who really listens to the song would know all that.
Ahhh the power of advertising! It really makes you wonder. I must have been 14 when this was airing on television and look at it now. An American cult classic commercial that anyone during that time is sure to remember. Amazing isn't it?
This played back in 87 through 88 i think, i was 13 and i would stop what i was doing and watch this commercial every time it came on.The burned out Hippie Reminded me of chech&Chong it was fun to watch every time.
I may be a little late with this, but, if you're still seeking info on the actors...Don't know who the guy on the left is, but dude on the right worked for KILO 94 in Colo Spgs, Co. at the time this was recorded, I can't remember his real name. He went by the air name RED NOYZE. Last time I heard him, he was at a small market station in michigan in about '88 or '89. Hope this helps!
we thought of this commercial today and I said 'that is probably on youtube, let's watch it later' - and sure enough, here it is! I love youtube for the memories! Thanks for putting this up -
