do these units use R22 refrigerant? Tempstar is made by ICP corp. (International Comfort Products) witch is owned/made by Carrier 5 stars and a favorite!
They're all the same brand except for the slightly old Trane (2003) the New ones are Tempstar and to my surpise I don't think there all the same capacity, the one for my Brother's apartment is 1/12 ton and the other one next to it is physically larger, I think it might be 2 ton but that doesn't make sense as each apartment is identical.
A Condo/Townhouse development near me has a lot of those small Trane units. The homes were built from 1997-1998, so they must have made that model for a long time. I know Trane usually keeps the design of their units the same for a long time.
Those units have been made since the early 70s they were made by G.E originally and were called the "Weathertron" series then in 1983 Trane bought out the G.E HVAC division and they relabeled all the G.E equipment to Trane. So this particular model of condenser was made largely unchanged for about 30 years, Trane discontinued that model around 2004.
The house we lived in, when I was younger in Elizabethtown, Kentucky had a GE Weathertron unit. I went by there last winter, and it's still there. I was shocked that it would last that long.
were you there when they replaced those 1984 tranes?

That Trane unit appears to be newer from the early 2000s.
