Because youre not trying to get the same speed was the point hes making. You want the bullet to go slower so the bullet itself doesnt go supersonic and "crack".
@HunterBeier The heavier bullet provides the inertia (minus the speed) to work the action. Subsonic rounds are purposely manufactured to get close to the amount of force needed to work semi or full auto actions since the round itself is designed for that use. They do it with a heavier bullet.

Wow, that's quiet. I've noticed that subsonic ammo usually have heavier bullets? Why is that? I thought it would make sense for it to be lighter...

@HunterBeier Just like a car. The lighter it is the faster it goes. Heavier bullets require more propellant to reach the same speeds.
