Japanese is the best!!!! The english dubs didn't suit the characters AT ALL, Ran sounds WAY too old...and the french was just okay...but because the japanese is the original they can make the characters say what they want...dubbing is hard so they have to say weird stuff sometimes too, especially since english typically have longer sentences than in japanese...

I couldn't concentrate on the French one. They sound so wrong. I literally laughed the entire time. Shinichi sounds too old, I think. That and Gin sounds like he's about as smart as Vodka... that's not right.

English and japanese I think are fine. Considering I can barely understand any japanese, I think they fit fine.

I'm a fan of this series. Personally I prefer the original Japanese langange version with english subtitles. But then I never have been a fan of redubbing into another language.

I'm currently reading the english editions (Case Closed) by VIZ Media. The Japanese language track is what I hear in my head while I'm reading.

@fullfolle the changing of the name was actually TMS's fault (TMS are the people how give the series to funimation) TMS told funimation to change the names in to English so that it would be more popular but obviously it didn't work very well

im not jap, but i hate dubs. in the english dub shinichi/jimmy sounds like some stupid-ass cowboy. didnt even bother trying to listen to the french

I haaaate the English version, and it was the first version I watched. The voices are just too different, causing the sub-fans to be against the dub and vice versa. Usually you can only get peace in situations like this if the voices sound the same x] Ouran High School Host Club is one I can name off the bat, where the dub is similar enough to the sub to where I can watch either with no problem.

I don't have all the Episodes, but I would like to get them.

I like the Japanese voice of one of the men in black better.

I started watching this series in Mandarin and that is my fave set. I like Conan's voice in Mandarin rather than in Jap. But for the most part I guess Mandarin and Jap are comparable.

the french ran, for me, is really really good (watch the french angry ran video if you can find it). as I mentioned earlier, the english voice actress makes her sound like she's already some kind of mom! and of course, kudo in japanese is the best. the voice just gives off that ambitious, carefree but snarky attitude. the english and french just make him sound old -___-

Rachel's english voice is WAY HELL better then her japanese voice! because she sounds like a little girl in japanese. Jimmy's english voice is better then his japanese voice!

guys, have you seen the real character of gin in the japan drama series of dc? well, you'll crack up even harder: he's like this old guy that wore a blonde wig(u can tell...) and dressed up as gin(duh!)i dont know, but he just doesnt fit gin's character. and for the actor that's playing his role as conan...he looks nothing like conan. conan is 99% more brighter!!!

people post comments saying 'japanese is better than any other dub'.  well that's because we're used to the japanese one. but i'll say.i do like the japanese one. the english is also good but the french...man, i never want to listen to it anymore... and for the part where ran broke her shoelace, that's just plain dumb. but i read that having a broken shoelace in japan means bad luck. well i have 1 guestion:how do u break ur lace?!

From what I've heard, Funimation actually wanted to keep the names the same. They were forced to "localize" the series because some geniuses thought it would help the show gain popularity. And the English voices get better after the first few episodes, trust me.

in order from best to worst : Japanese - english - french.

japanese tends to be best in like anything. I really do like the english ones, they all fit nicely, only problem there is they reuse voices over and over for the unimportant characters.

I disagree. They are the best, when it comes to their original works, but they would not be as good at something that did not come from them. There is also the fact that when Samurai X was still being made in Japan, Kenshin sounded more like a girl than a man or boy.

Actually, you can tell in any language. After all, it is common knowledge that a male's voice is deeper than a female's. Also, it is a fact that a female did adult kenshin's voice in the OVAs. It would be understandable to have a female doing kid Kenshin's voice, but not doing an adult male's voice.

But I don't see why people complain about the English dub. I find the voices very fitting to the characters. Especially for the fact that they're speaking English. It would sound rather strange if the English voices were identical to the Japanese ones, 'cause they're not speaking Japanese

But the French dub is really not good. The only fitting voice I heard was Rachel's. All of the others were done very badly. Gin sounds unrealistic here.

The English version doesn't make my ears bleed, like some dubs I know, (Example: 4Kids Version of One Piece. >.>) I just don't like how they change everything, such as names and location to English names. (Hattori's from CANADA in the English. o_O)

On the other hand, the French fits extremely well. =P

agree. i think it was 10 years ago when they started to broadcast a lot of anime in Germany. the bad thing was that they thought it came from America (wtf!!!) and stuck to the American names and location, which is totally nonsense because you can see all the japanese signs and everything like culture, food etc. ... I can't understand why they always change names, but to hear that Heiji comes from Canada... LOL!!!! that's just weird. I'm glad they realized that it doesn't make much sense here.:)

Haha, They really didn't need to Americanize the whole thing, they just needed to change the title 'Detective Conan' for copyright reasons. (I think that was the case anyway. =P)

I've seen the whole in japanese with subs, but I gotta say that the english is annoying and only the french voices for Ran and Shinichi sound right. I agree with jane - Gina and Vodka should swap voices.
