Too bad about the "if straight-moving bad guys touch the bottom of the screen you lose a life instantly" thing. It's too common for three or four of these guys to appear where you have next to no chance of taking them out.
@andyzkey You're right, it was indeed Chris Bayne. With that funny font and the very brief moment that I glanced at the writing, it was an easy mistake to make.
The fast Scramble type game I was referring to was Mission Omega.
Mission Alphatron is an excellent game, if also incredibly fast :D
@pocketmego It doesn't make much sense, but back then, I think bedroom coders just tried to copy the arcades with no thought for why the games were so hard.
Hadn't thought of it that way. But, you are probably right on the money. I know for a fact that Matt Smith (not the Doctor) deliberately made Manic Miner as hard as he possibly could. But, judging by interviews, I think he might actually be functionally insane.
@Aeduo Yeah, it's that kinda game. Without much else to play (and if all you had was an MTX, you wouldn't have much else), I could see people rising to the challenge to try and beat it. Or at least, to try and last more than 10 seconds :)
I *hope* that it's going that fast because you're playing it on a faster computer, and it wasn't that way, originally. If not, I can't imagine what the higher levels must be like!
Ya know, Steve, even now, 1:10 - 1:34 is still probably my favourite moment of your time on YouTube! :D
Honestly: no matter how many times I watch it, it makes me laugh! XD

I set up MEMU and gave this a try.
Ho-lee shit.

@johannbock It's great that with memu, more people can experience the insanely fast slaughter of games like this :D

I think it was by Chris Bayne, not Bryne.
And no, despite the comment in the video, I didn't write this.

I just saw a Memotech 500 (not 512) sell for £156, is it worth it for game like this..? I think you just saved me £156 :)

@atombat There are one or two good(ish) games for it, but yeah, they aren't cheap.

Why in the yellow fuck would you make a game's first levels this fast and this hard? Its not like your computer is trying to win your quarters.

Looks like it would've been a fun game to play back in the day. I could see myself getting in to it if I didn't have many games and it was the 80s.

Wow! Get your stopwatch out, I think you set some kind of record there!!! ;)
I haven't got one but I estimate - 1st death = 0.5 seconds, game over = 8 seconds! :D
That's quite insane, I must admit. It whets my appetite no end, let me tell ya!
If I ever get chance to play it, I'll put a video up of it (although admittedly, that's doubtful). :(
Good SWILL! :D
