  • Natalie Dessay

  • Diana Damrau is by far the greatest and was also in a good production of the Magic Flute. Most of them look really silly or obnoxious if compared to the production that she was in, that was beautiful and simple at the same time.

At 0:07 they tried to look too "modern".

And what the hell were they thinking with that costume at 0:34?

  • If you don't have the technique and if you're not 100% fit, it will strain your voice, just like Madame Diana Damrau said.

  • observen bien toda la obra para mi es diana damrau la ecenografia los actores q la acompañan van a la perfeccion con ella.

  • I listened to this intently as i was keen to participate in the exercise. I think i have heard it enough now to last me for the next 10 years. You can have too much of a good thing and this is a perfect example. The only avenue now open to me is to listen to my personal favourite by Lucia Popp and see if i can exorcise the demon.

  • Yes there was alot of talent on this compilation however where were Sutherland,Peters,Sills, etc etc?

  • EDDA MOSER?!!!??

  • This aria is surely hard because of the high notes, but it's not the most difficult one !!!!

  • I hate the cresendo's at beginning! ... but overall a great performance!

  • Mrs. XXX... WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? =/

  • @RockSoldier3 It is a show, and she is interpreting Mrs. Florence Jenkins :D

  • I agree, Diana's voice is sensational, a gorgeous run.

  • diana the best!!!!!!

  • oh my god, ms. xxx raped my ears in a way that even jenkins did not...

  • No, that is NOT Florence Foster Jenkins. Totally different person, but just as bad.

  • @artdanks I agree. She is not Florence Foster Jenkins. Anyway, she is very bad :D

  • Since so many people have asked, Mrs. XXX is none other than the infamous Florence Foster Jenkins, (google her) and that clip is from her infamous Carnegie Hall concert. Yes, she played Carnegie Hall. Once. Because she could afford to. Ridicule her singing (or whatever that is) all you want, but one must concede that the woman had the courage to live her dream. As she once said, "People may say I can't sing, but no one can ever say I didn't sing."

  • Diana Damrau without a doubt. Colouratura at it's height !!!

  • elena mosuc es la mejor la amo : )

  • Luciana Serra the best!!!

  • Cristina Deutekom, Erika Miklosa, Diana Damrau and Luciana Serra are best.

  • I like the variety of costumes for the queen. They range from regal to the downright scary (eg, 2:28).

  • mrs.xxxx sounds like a sea lion!

  • La Grande Christina Deutekom!!!!!! Woooooow!!!!!!

  • where's Joan Sutherland????

  • 2:14 makes some funny faces when she sings...hehe. But it sounds good! So I guess it's worth it! Rachel Rosales outfit reminds me of Queen Padme. And that gave me the idea of Star Wars as an opera. That idea will never leave my head.

  • The costuming for erika miklosa was terrible.

  • Everyone knows that this was excellent, and I love seeing all the women with meat on their bones!!!

  • this video is slightly faster for some of the performances

  • loloololool at the last one XD

  • Whats with Mrs XXXX???? was she joking or was she serious?

  • Diana Damraus is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She IS the Queen of the Night! And her costume is superb too. The others dont have a chance!

  • Love Diana Damrau's acting also and her notes are just perfect. Sumi Jo has the notes, and Gruberova has a beautiful sound in her voice but have some problems with tempo and tone, but she made this very dificult aria very beautifuly.

Mrs. XXX, just love her like Mrs. Florence Foster Jenkins. Check it out.

  • @amarichiu omg your soo true about mrs. florence =)

  • Comment removed

  • ALL OF THEM DID WELL!! AWESOME!! BRAVO!!!

  • they have all the same voice.

  • I never thought anyone could beat Florence Foster Jenkins, but now I realize she has been trumped by Mrs. XXXX.

  • The first three were horrible ...they are great singers but I did NOT like their versions at all

  • lol at the instrumentation going along w/ Mrs XXXX. It was all planned, but still funny indeed.

  • the guy behind Mrs. XXXX is laughing at her HAHA XD

  • It's so bizarre now to think that Damrau wasn't especially well-reviewed in the role when this ROH production opened. IMO she totally nailed this moment - her crescendi on the repeated notes were electrifying live. And her Queen was much more than a scary canary; Damrau kicked ass all over her voice, not just in her extension. Trivia moment for all the fans of Diana's frock - the production designer was the uber-sexy John McFarlane. My suggestion for the "Why-Isn't-She-Here?" list: Carol Vaness.

  • pas facile à chanter avec une choregraphie... et pourtant regarder l'aisance avec laquelle nathalie dessay chante cela! Ces contre-fa qui me font trembler sont epoustouflant!

  • I agree with all these statements. Diana Damrau is the best. She has the most breath control, doesn't rush the orchestra, and has no weaken on any of those notes. Some of those women couldn't even hit the F#. Really??

  • Damrau has to be the best queen of the night ever.

  • lmao the second last singer is tone deaf, cute

  • I love the second singer costume XD can someone tell me who is she lol

  • Diana can sing great but the best is Luciana Serra

  • Best singer was Christina Deutekom. Most pretty is/was Diana Damrau.

  • Bravo! Mrs. X. Truly hilarious.

    Pity Moser isn't here.

    Damrau clearly crowns them all.

  • Dessay's acting is dismal.

  • I think that Lucia Popp are the best one

  • I admittedly just came here to disagree with the title, a harder aria is Numi Respiro... ah lo Sento from Europa Riconosciuta by Salieri. the title character has to sing numerous F6 and F#6s throughout the opera along with two G6s in Numi Respiro... ah lo Sento. but nice collection of evil queens.

  • Me quedo con 3: Dessay, Serra, Deutekom....

  • deutekom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mrs XXXX was turrible...

  • For purely voice I really like Sumi Jo for this aria. She's not the best actress ever but...

  • Luciana Serra! La Serra! But I'm terribly "old school". Great post, though.

  • Best Queen - Luciana Serra (for ever)

Best dress - Diana Damrau (best acting too)

    Best crown - Gruberova

    Best play-back - Deutekom

    Best dressing gown - Dessay

Best trambling voice - Erika Miklosa

Best barking - Clara Polito & Miss XXX (Best dance too)

    Special thanks to munequitodeebano1

  • @ferrykalos that cracked me up :D

    and it's 100% true!

  • My favourite is Foster Florence Jenkins... Really, I'm joking, a terrible joke for a horrid singer. Sometimes I wonder if she was just playing us all.

  • @aalg4c LOL. She certainly was unique and her voice was instantly recognizable, she was also - using the words of one critic of her time - "inimitable". I'll vote for Damrau though.

  • @jewelmarkess Yeah, Damrau is my actual favourite.

  • love the way the last one conducts herself and points her index fingers up trying to hit those high notes.

  • this aria is only difficult if you don't have the high F. in that case it is an impossible aria. but if you have the note it should be quite standard to sing it. there are other operas with sopranos roles and arias that are truly demanding like norma, semiramide, lucia di lammermoor, armida, abigaille, turandot, and none of them require a high F.

  • EDDA MOSER ES LA REINA DE ESTA ARIA!!! FALTO EN ESTA SELECTIVA SELECCION DE EXCELENTES SOPRANOS!!

  • LUCIANA SERRA is really the best of the best. Her voice and her italian way breathing just amazing. The others... ... some of them really either looks like a street hooker or gangster... ... doesn't look like a classic tale evil queen at all ! ~~~

  • Wow I always knew that these weren't regular sopranos. I just didn't know that they were called Coloratura sopranos.

  • Diana Damrau is the bes

  • Me extraña que falte la mejor de todas Edda Moser y coincido además en que esta no es el aria más difícil, Popoli di tessaglia de Mozart es muchísimo más complicada.

  • this is NOT the most difficult one, listen to more operas please

  • @thomastmwc Stop being such a dick please.

  • @affenschwanz64 WT...H?

  • 0:50... in da face!!

  • my favourite for this aria is Erika Miklosa, but not the version played here so much as the concert version where her eyes are absolutely terrifying.

  • DESSAY!

  • @riardojarav Lucia Popp gets no respect these days!

  • i just love diana damrau, because she has a low voice her high notes come out more

  • @lunahate a soprano singing up to A flat does not have low voice:):)

  • Wow! Mrs. XXX was pretty awful!!

But where is Joan Sutherland and Natalie Dessay?

  • @skyhunk natalie is the third =)

  • what a bunch of pretentious snobbish comments. as if any of you would be able to appreciate what it takes to sing like this,

  • I LOVE CLARA POLITO! :)

  • ja spinnst du?!!!!

  • hahahhahahaha

  • 8:20-9:10 was painful :(

  • I love how Deutekom doesnt act at all, her face just remains blank the whole time, like she's focusing really hard on singing right lol. Good thing she's so good, tho.

  • As for me, Cristina Deutekom is the best.

  • These are some amazing performances. I am convinced that these women have not evolved from an amoeba. Darwin was wrong.

  • Rachel Rosares' and Diana Damrau's costumes are amazing :)

  • Diana Damrau is the best (and her dress too!)

  • @larasoto1991 I agree! she's the best of all of them! :D

  • @larasoto1991 i agree 100 percent

  • Sumi was the best

  • Thank you very much for this collage! It is really wonderful!

  • 8:20 who the hell is she? :D

  • Ok, I normally don't knock people on you tube but yes, the penultimate one must have been a joke. Holy moley my DOG could have done it better.

  • la del min 8:20-9:10 parece gallina culeca jajaja}

  • 8:20 has to be a joke... loved the rest of it .

  • the 8:20 is a fuckin' joke, i guess....my mother sings this better in the shower after eating chili

  • Thank you for this collage. =)

  • Comment removed

  • I mean the VERY last. Thanks

  • Who was the ver last Queen of the Night? there was no name unfortunately, guess she was the best in the last minute.

  • Oh God, the penultimate was fatal!!!!!!

  • The woman in blue looks like she goes into seizures lol

  • 8:20.. gotta give her an A for effort,... she just didnt have the upper register for it LOL

  • Who is Mrs. XXX? I need to share this with the world - is there a version of just her? OMG

  • I love rap,but I love this thing,I don't really get it,but she could be a good alarm system for my house xD

  • @MrDopeRabbit wrote "but she could be a good alarm system for my house xD"

    ---

I'm gonna use it for my ringtone and watch the reactions of people around me.

  • 1:42 . yes.

  • I couldn't help but noticing the big grin on the face of the violinist behind Mrs. XXXX at 8:56.

She reminds me a bit of Florence Foster Jenkins, but it couldn't be her, since she died some time before this video was shot. The story of Florence Foster Jenkins is in some way quite tragic, look her up on wikipedia, or youtube (but be warned...).

  • Luciana serra!!! She's like a bird SO pure, so pure!

  • You kwon, today I listened to a singer at school, she sang this aria, and WOW that was so awesome that I felt fear. I won´t never be able to forget her name, sherezada cruz.

Great video, and say hello from Mexico!

  • Diana Damrau ALLLLLLLL the way! 1:33- 2:13. She's the best out there!

  • Where is Radu Marian?!!! Do you think Mrs. XXX is better than him?!!

  • Diana Dambrau, the best!

  • me encanto este video:)

  • mrs.xxx is so bad,that I laughed

  • Mrs. XXX must have had an "off" day.

  • I was worried the last and "best" one would be Florence Foster Jenkins, believing there has never been a worse rendition of this aria. I was wrong; Mrs. XXX takes the top prize. :Þ

  • i can't stop laughing for miss XXX for 3 days now lol

  • Nice job. Funny end. Thank you.

I wonder how guys can compare utube version of digitized videotape and to compare different artists based on that ))

  • Mrs. xxxx sounds like a dog in pain XD

  • I'm sure it isn't the most difficult one ;)

  • @thomastmwc i think either bell song from lakme is or doll song...the first aria I learned as a colortura was the bell song..I'm learning to doll song now..rather difficult

  • @Poet2916 the bel canto repertoire; early Rossini; Mozart's Popoli di Tessaglia

there's too much to sing, you know

    good luck :)!

  • Yo llego más alto que esa canción D:

    Claro, con voz soprano ._.

  • I tend to read the comments while I watch videos on youtube, so when I read the whole 8:20 part sucked, I want to give the singer the benefit of the doubt. But when that part came, I just couldn't do it. That was terrible Mrs. xxxx :(

  • mrs XX Florence Foster Jenkins superb :-) who needs Diana Damrau, Sumi Jo, Maria Calles or Dame Joan Sutherland.

  • Christina Deutekom brava!!!

  • Diana Damrau is the best.

  • la mejor Dianna Damrau

  • Nice selection. Mrs xxxx? nice choice too. I'll be looking for her antics, thanks for including that!

  • I want to learn how to sing this. It's so beautiful! Sumi Jo was to best (4:00-4:45)

  • What's the meaning?

  • 8:20-9:10 suuuuuuuucked

  • @21camsmi

Thats the point. She really sucks LOL

  • @munequitodeebano1 some people just shouldnt sing..... and she is one of them

  • @munequitodeebano1 omg tone deaf.. just because you can do a lot of vibrato doesn't make it okay to sing out of tune..

  • @munequitodeebano1 she looks old..maybe they did it so she can feel good?

  • @21camsmi My GOD that was bad, sounds like piss poor karaoke

  • @21camsmi fucking flat haha xD

  • Comment removed

  • @21camsmi is she drunk?

  • @21camsmi She also needs a better bra! :)

Maybe those breast swere weighing her notes down....

  • @21camsmi you nailed it :D Made me laugh. Did you see violinist behind her laughing?

  • @21camsmi D': PLEASE KILL MEEE!!!

  • Bravo.

Mrs. XXX, for anyone unaware, is Florence Foster Jenkins, who was famous in her time for (a) her utter confidence in her musical abilities, and (b) her utter lack of any form of musical talent. But she was rich enough to indulge her passion, and was apparently oblivious to the open derision she received from everyone, including her own conductor.

I would have included the great solos by Sutherland, Callas, and Sills, but I understand, this is your favorites list, not mine.

  • @doctorjoee I don't think Calls ever did this aria

  • @doctorjoee I'm not so sure, she died in 1944 and the recording sounds much better than that. The sounds could just be imposed over the video of course, but assuming that's also real you're looking at mid 70s onwards for hand held cameras.

  • I know how difficult that can be! I've heard part of this song live, and WOW, it was amazing

  • senhora xxx! o negócio é competir! parabéns, não conheço quem faça nem a metade do que vç faz parabéns!
