I do know. However, mirrors create blind spots. Therefore I feel happier looking around (gives me 360 vision). Also it is possible to depend too much on the mirror, which can discourage you fro vital 'looks back'. I'll stick to turning my head and swivelling my eyes! :-)
What sort of distance should you keep to the side of a cyclist when overtaking one then? As I never overtake a cyclist unless the oncoming lane is clear, as I normally go at least half way or 2/3 of the way into the opposite lane to overtake, ensuring I leave plenty of space.
That's a good overtake. Generally the advice is leave enough space for the cyclist to fall into. Most overtakes follow this advice as did the cars in this video :-)
There is the Clyde Tunnel acoustic test, my son learning to cycle, 3 videos of me just cycling through the tunnel, the cycle lane hater (which I found amusing). :-)
why?is uploading videos on youtube all you have?believe it or not mr magnatom i watch your videos because im intrested in your daily lifestyle.but tell me this"why do you put pointles videos on"when you clearly have nothing to show???sometimes i think your just looking for atention?correct me if im wrong!!!!!
I agree your riding style can work and is safe but it requires good drivers which are rare. I bet you can count days like that with your thumbs and I'm sure you don't have enough fingers or toes to tally up the times you've been badly overtaken down that road.
Actually your wrong about that. I have incidents on about 3% of my commutes. Even then most of them are a pain rather than actually dangerous. The VAST majority of the overtakes are very well executed. I think my road position helps to encourage this (at least I hope it does), but I also think the majority of drivers are considerate.
Well done Magnatom, I reckon these drivers watch your channel and have learned from you or they are cyclists too. Maybe they've read the Cyclecraft book? Or maybe they've read the highway code properly.
No-one was inconvenienced? You blocked them! All you have to do was remain left before the first pinch point to let them through. With the final pass you had no reason to be in the middle. How antagonistic of you. Well done those drivers for not displaying the same level of antagonism as you did!
It's clear that your position within the lane contributes greatly to your own safety. Near the end you edged slightly left, giving up some of your position, but not providing any real benefit to overtaking motorists. Maintaining a consistent line is probably your best choice.
A great video demonstrating narrow lane management and safe motorist overtaking.
At least 3 feet or 1 metre. That's from your wing mirror to the tip of the handlebar.

Why don't you get a rear view mirror instead of always turning your head? There are mirrors you know.

Motorcycles are fitted with mirrors, but in rider training you're taught to always use rearward glances before changing direction.
Then again... so are car drivers (blind spot checks)...

Totally missed the point - he caught them up a moment later, and overtook them in a queue. Ask again, where's the inconvenience?
On my commute, hundreds of cars try to overtake me in between lights or junctions, only for me to pass them moments later.
This style of riding is all about helping motorists (perhaps like yourself) to help themselves :-)

Now you see... this video wont get any slaggings off, ironic isnt it. Shoot the messenger comes to mind :-D
Great driving, proves it can be done and nobody was inconvienced in any way.
