I finally got up to FMP in early August. Having been to HRP last summer, I have to say that it was like seeing an old friend after a debilitating stroke. The staff were like zombies. No service at all. Everything that they were legally required to remove they tried to claim they removed on purpose to be more family friendly, but they were still selling AC/DC and Ozzy Osbourne shirts etc. Just sad... The Time Machine was nice, but maintenance was awful, and cobwebs/trash were everywhere.
Actually the new owners & staff are terrific - they have great plans for the park and with support it's going to be awsome! The Time Machine is so worth the trip! It's going to be different - it already feels different than last year!
The old owners and staff were also terrific, and also had some great plans... I wish them the best of luck, but the idea that the problem was that the brand wasn't "family friendly enough" is a complete fantasy. If Knights in White Satin was "too druggy" then why name your fireworks show after the hook from "Purple Haze"? The problems were (and will continue to be) poor marketing, location, and the over-all economy. Good luck to them.
Their location has improved, the new bridge over the waterway coming from the airport/Coastal Grand Mall finally opened and has made it easier for people like me on the southend to get there. I dont have to worry about going on 501 or down forestbrook road anymore. And I know your post was a month ago, but FMP seems to be doing more marketing than just trying to bank on the Hard Rock name. They have done BOGO free on Myspace and Facebook as well as $17.76 on July 4th for up to 4 people.

WHAT!?!?! The Marketing is freaking overkill where I live. The FMP commercial is on 3-4 times a day. And that's just what I see.

The giant Gibson overlooking the lagoon looked better with the Hard Rock logo.
