Hey dude I thought I would let you know that I have been to this vid about 700 times. because I have it at the top of my favorites so after I reed the news on yahoo, I hit favorites, your short vid, and I am ready to search youtube. My wife always knows when I am surfing on the net because she hears your rocket. somtimes if I get on youtube in the middle of the night, I dont know what the volume level is when your vid turns on and I think it wakes people up. Oh well, I never get tired of it.
@meetsouder lol I love how everyone in this vid doubts this rocket was supersonic... it was a firestorm54 on an Aerotech K550w, theres no question it WAS.
A- we use onboard altimeters in our rockets that record data (such as velocity.)
B- No, there was no sonic boom from where you were standing, because the rocket is already past you from the moment of launch..
C- a K550W has a hell of a kick and the firestorm54 is a leightweight fiberglass bird with a relativley low profile. it.goes.fast.
@jurvetson If it was supersonic "usually" there is a white disc that forms in the smoke trail, this is the actual air molecules being ripped apart and brought back together creating condensed air a.k.a a cloud.
@pyrotechaholic bro, that thing appeared to have left faster than the qu8k rocket. I say suopersonic. Jurvetson also (i'm guessing) had telemetry electronics on board to confirm this ;)
At Tripoli South Florida we did a 38mm, 3 foot long kosdon motor in a 5 foot 2 1/2 inch rocket and broke mach twice under 200 feet !! It was very impressive !! Rocket was never found.
