I think this video is very interesting because it shows very clearly that our culture is in a massive transitional phase regarding socially accepted ideas about sexuality and gender roles. It has me interested to see what kind of changes we will see in the future generations. After multiple transitional shifts in our culture regarding ideas about religion, race, sexuality, gender roles, and nationality; I wonder what the next major cultural shifts will be about. Perhaps artificial life?
This would be easier if people understood the difference between Sex (the biological parts you are born with) and Gender (the social aspects that come with a particular sex)

More often than not, someone will misinterpret what I've said as something bigoted, discriminatory and prejudiced when stating that a person that attempts to change their sex can to do to no avail, because one cannot change their own biological structure. Sure, they can remove their sexual organs and take hormone supplements, but that doesn't change chromosomal structure, or DNA. Gender, being a social, non-static construct, however, can change.

Like I said and I'm sure you're aware of, hormone supplements can be taken by male or female participants to increase male or female hormone levels in their bodies. They can also have surgeons create a penis or vagina for them, though because they do not have functioning uteri or sperm glands, these cannot function.

What exactly is a "male social role"? I mean being male can mean alot of things. I just feel the essentialist myth that some transpeople use to explain their situation, reinforces stereotypes. Let me educate you a little. It is not a choice to be a transsexual, the only choices they have are either to accept it, transition, deny it and suffer, or commit suicide. It is a biological condition that starts in the womb where the brain structurally develops in the opposite direction as the body. Their aim is not to deceive people, they are simply trying to align their bodies with their brains. Most transsexuals let their partners know in the beginning of a relationship.

It doesn't make a distinction between crossdressers and transgender people but even today the majority of people don't know these details.

It has me interested to see what kind of changes we will see in the future generations. Everyone has so many different definitions of this that and the other thing; it's hard to really cope. But the main idea is just for a hope that someday there'd be a standard system, perhaps like the one you suggested. One can not change their chromosomes, but since sex does not equal chromosomes, there's a lot of things that can be changed. If someone is biologically XY and is born with a penis and docs, without checking other sex factors, label them biologically male - that can't be changed. That's their history.

@ehipassiko No apologies necessary. Clearly it is a touchy subject. I'd would say that one can do many things to alter their biology, though not enough to completely alter one's sex. Like I said and I'm sure you're aware of, hormone supplements can be taken by male or female participants to increase male or female hormone levels in their bodies. They can also have surgeons create a penis or vagina for them, though because they do not have functioning uteri or sperm glands, these cannot function.

Nobody can run from their history and I've always thought it was silly to do so. However, for all practical purposes, someone who has transitioned from male to female is a human with a female gender and to state otherwise is, IMHO, silly. They are transgender women and not biological women.

Of all the trans i've met, all of them want to wear very girly clothes, even though many women do not themselves dress in that manner. What about intersexed people? (ambiguous genitals, opposite chromosomes for their body type, etc). There are women(born female) who have male chromosomes and cannot have children. Let me educate you a little. It is not a choice to be a transsexual, the only choices they have are either to accept it, transition, deny it and suffer, or commit suicide. It is a biological condition that starts in the womb where the brain structurally develops in the opposite direction as the body. Their aim is not to deceive people, they are simply trying to align their bodies with their brains. Most transsexuals let their partners know in the beginning of a relationship.

Studies on the brains of transsexuals reveal that region of the hypothalamus is similar in size to females, smaller in fact. Similar studies on the brains of homosexual men reveal no difference in size from the brains of straight men, showing that there is no connection with sexual orientation.

The people you are referring to as "freaks" know their gender identity as early as 3 years old, and at that age are very aware that their brain and body do not match. I can't imagine how a 3 year old could possibly be a pervert. The majority of transgendered women do not become prostitutes, they would rather be seen as no different from any other woman. @fallingsacred Yes, the TG population has one of the highest HIV infection rates. That infection rate is usually among those who are denied access to housing, employment and social services. For instance, in Houston, all TGs are banned from homeless shelters (they're all faith-based).

@ehipassiko transwomen are high at risk to fall into the sex trade, thus risky behaviour to catch HIV. Transmen however pass very well and often go into society very successfully. TS women have to somehow diminish traits like height, or employment ghettos women generally are pushed to. As a transwoman, I had to take my employer (of eight years) where I worked as a warehouse lead hand to human rights - and they had to keep me on.

Without regard to particular Christian sect dogma (eg, Unitarian vs Pentecostal) and only using the NKJ Christian (not Jewish) text, there exists no Biblical stance against transgender people. Gender identity is not sexuality and being trans has nothing to do with the act of sex. Look at John 3:16 for guidance about what the NKJ American Christian god thinks.

@ehipassiko: there is no clear stance because they didn't even have the concept. As far as I know the Bible, it would be against transgender people without hesitation. Read Deuteronomy 22:5 . It doesn't make a distinction between crossdressers and transgender people but even today the majority of people don't know these details.

I don't doubt that transgendered people were in all categories, maybe even Jesus Christ herself, but that Matthew Gospel verse doesn't talk about them. The next example is weak but I have no other: 1 Corinthians 11:14; this is New Testament. Didn't Jesus say that the Old Testament is valid and people should follow it? That's the reason I gave you that OT example.

Being transgendered is not a choice one makes. It is widely becoming recognized as a physical birth defect. Essentially, the body of one gender, but the brain of the other. The cause is not fully understood yet, but it is thought to be a hormonal imbalance occurring around the 8th week of pregnancy. Since gender identity is hard-wired into the brain, these people are truly in the wrong body.
