so ugh...just tried this just now, came prepared an half hour early, sat and waited in my spot....as soon as he yelled it started I started fishing like crazy, getting to every pool I could and after my 3rd pool I see him yell somebody won -.- within 4 minutes of the start of the derby..../sigh I'm just trying to collect every heirloom available and the ring is the last thing I need :[ I can't believe somebody won that fast though

I won Kalu'ak with my first attemp as a 69( my main)

I fished in Howling Fjord on the 3rd pool i got the shark and i was like OMG OMG OMG

Hearthed to Dalaran and still was like OMG OMG OMG

Had a lil bit lagg but i managed to run to Elder Clearwater, i was like clicking him mad, and i won one guy by 1 sec, we arrived at the same time

AND

I dinged 70 from the xp and also got Honored with the Kalu'ak

Followed your other guide on your site for the stranglethorn contest, Gotta say...was the most intense thing EVER. First off I won today, I had disconnected when I was at about 27 fish, Log back on asked general if anyone won, they were like its not over....I had got to 40 and STILL nobody won.I had hearthed to booty bay inn like u said..a 80 shammy was behind me running to turn in and I STILL won by 3 secs..now thats an epic guide lol. disconnecting and still winning. thanks for all the tips.

I'll share my story on how I get this ring and dispel some myths. Short version: I won by fishing at random pools in Dragonblight with 15 fishing skill and that white vendor pole. Everyone told me you needed 450 fishing skill with the epic Kalu'ak fishing pole, but I don't know what to say other than I got the Blacktip Shark with, yes, 15 fishing skill and some trash vendor pole without even a bauble. Either I'm uber lucky, or everyone has an equal chance regardless of skill level. Happy fishing

Yes and no. The catch rate from pools (in Northrend, except Glassfin Minnow) is more than 5 times higher than open water. So the chance of winning is far lower from open water. So pools are the only recommended place.

Technically it's possible to win the Booty Bay contest as a Bloodsail, because the contest NPCs aren't part of the Cartel. Obviously *a lot* harder, since everyone else in Booty Bay still hates you. But with help, it can has been done.
