efectivamente era una total dramatico coloratura de amplio espectro vocal.handel le huviera bajado la luna y venus para ponerselas a sus pies.y si rossini huviera escuchado su semiramide en la voz de sutherland se huviera vuelto loco

Oh God, who conducted this recording? The exact worst way killing bel canto operas, shallow barrel organ aproach. And followed with canary bird singing..... Fortunately we have Serafin´s recording with several excellent and more receptive sopranos (e.g. V.Zeani), so we can enjoy this nice cabaletta.

u didnt get my point. Joan's ornaments usually are idiotic and overloaded written by her husband or some other untalented ornament writer. In this case they are beautiful ;) (rare for beauty not rare for ornaments)
for almost every ornamentable aria she sang she has at least 3 different plans for each (if not more. for ah non giunge in sonnambula she had 5 options, all different or varied from the original) her good recordings and good performances that are noted in her history are usually the ones where she used her own. she was a very talented musician and had a great ear for ornaments.
Joan is, of course, splendid, but isn't it great to hear young Luciano chirping along? What a team. And, by the way, how can anyone dislike this???

One of the few truly complete "Son vergin vezzosa"s and one of the most delightfully and tastefully ornamented.
This recording just never gets old.

wow...not even callas or caballe could top this

@thisizjoey
that's because Callas was a strange fusion of lirico spinto and mezzo and Caballe was a lyric. only Joan was a dramatic coloratura

ornaments aren't rare in this... they were intended by the composer although not written.

@JuillHope17
my favorite mini ornament is the "Lucia" ending she uses on most of her arias.. up M2, down a M2, down m2, up m2, up P4
it's kind of her signature =)

Here her voice is creamier and bigger than that in the audio posted by LindoroRossini.
I prefer her here...
