One has to give real credit to Donny Osmond for his ability to be a massive teenage heart-throb registering very high on the Beiber scale yet at the same timemodestly contributing to the Osmonds instrumentally and as a backing singer on equal terms. Compare this to the one trick donkeys like Beiber and the way the Jacksons always pushed the young Michael into the foreground. Being a talented superstar in his own right did not stop his being a great supportive instrumental band member.
One thing that often gets forgotten about the Osmonds. They were VERY good singing in unison. The genetic link helps with the tone but the exact identical timing, intonation etc is not an easy thing to do. See Ben Fold's and Sean Stockman's comments on the SIng Off
I was playing this song last night on New Year's Eve, and this is one of the best songs that The Osmonds wrote. The message is amazing and ahead of their time! Just the universal of their beliefs of spirituality and love around the world. The Osmonds got my respect in my book! I hope they can be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame soon. They deserve it!
Must say I always fancied Donny and Jay myself..but Merrill does have a great voice and was the lead singer until Donny took the popularity vote in the 70's.

Memories.........the best ever. What a great family and yes the original boy band. They were sooooooo dreamy and after over 35 years they still melt me !!
I love this song is one of my all time favorites, I also remember watching the 50th anniversary special when merrill was singing this song and watching himself in a
video as a young man singing the same song, I notice that he was crying,I Don't
know but I'm sure it bought back some very good memories for him.
14 when this song came out. loved merrill and cried when he got married. his voice was the best. still love them even though i'm now a mother of 5 and a grandmother of 7
Donny was always dreamy --in the classic sense, probably the best looking of the Brothers. BUT, I've been in love with Merrill since I was like, four. Loooong time ago. Beginning my long career of lusting after MEN who look like MEN--not little boys! Hehehe.
I really don't care what anyone may say, I loved this song Back In The Summer of'73, & it reminds me of a better, more innocent time. Beautifully done. Wolfsky9
*siiigh* just heard merrill sing this last week at branson... i got to go backstage and get a hug and a picture with him afterwards! he's still got it!
Does anyone know if there is a YouTube vid of the song "And You Loved Me" which I believe is on their Home Grown album? some of the Lyrics "I feel what I like to feel, I feel like me, In all the world you're all that could ever be, And you loved me". One of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard. I have it on an album back home in Miami (I'm in LA now) but I wondered if someone here knew where I could find it online. I'll keep searching....
From the wonderful album THE PLAN which is all about our Lords plan for us how we came from the spirit world and was born of earthly parents, our journey through life till we find our own way back to our heavenly parents.
Man is as God once was, God is as man may become.
May God bless you all and thank you so much for giving me the Gospel through your music .
Agree with all the comments below, BUT this song was really ruined for me when I heard them explain that it was about God and searching for faith.... (yawn). Anyone know how Alan is doing, by the way?
i was in love with crazy wayne he was really cute . i was in my first of high school when i first heard the song i went and bought the 45.i played this song .over and over..ilove you crazy wayne.

flirken please don't take this the wrong way the osmonds had and still have alot more real raw talent then any of the j5 ever had the osmonds could sing better this song was wrote by the osmonds its a classic no of the j5 songs don't come close to this and never will you see the osmonds don't need any gimicks like mj had im not into dancin give me a real good singer who can play there own music and sing live in concert enough said
@cherylblonde The big difference between the J5 and the Osmonds, is that the "Brothers" made the group. They ALL contributed. There would have been no J5 without Michael. He was the J5. Alan, Wayne and Merrill wrote the material, and they all played thier respective instraments. While Donny shared lead at times, he had a full fledged career of his own.
I was born in '63, and grew up listening to my sisters' Osmond albums. In the early '80s I was a hardcore punk, and since then, I've been deeply into obscure independent music from Japan, Scandinavia, France, etc. I listen to "difficult" music, hard bop, avant garde, and so on. I'm a "serious music" person.
But you know what? At their best (such as here), the Osmonds were flat-out *amazing*.
@bricology I agree with you, the Osmonds are amazing. One weekend back in 1984 (I think) I went to see Willie Nelson on Friday, Kiss on Saturday, and The Osmonds on Sunday, and while they are all great, The Osmonds just have it all. Plus, they were the only ones that you could hang around afterwards and meet, and have them actually talk to you!
I am rediscovering a lot of this music, and this is one of the best the Osmonds did, but unfortunately was not a big hit in the U.S. It probably would have been bigger, but music was changing and Donny & Marie were becoming the new stars, not the original group. Great song, though.
My gosh, in 1973, Donny was 16, Jay was 18, Merrill was 20, Wayne was 22 and Alan was 24. By that they were seasoned professionals. And what a beautiful piece of music. They are truly magnificant musician/composers, and this song goes to show what great songwriters they are. Thank you for uploading this video. Brings back wonderful memories of my 1970s childhood.
Wow! This is from The Osmonds "The Plan", a record that´s still really good. I wish I could buy it now on a CD. This LP was among the first I bought as a young child in 1972-73 (?). Thank´s for the videoclip.
I started singing this one at work this morning out of the blue, came home at lunchtime, sat down and watched this lovely video. Made me want to cry - am now 51, but watching this made me feel like a teenager all over again!!
well i am a little younger than u (no offence) but i share the same love 4 the Osmonds. they r the best! my all time fave singin' group! i am glad they still perform. to lose them would be a horrible loss.
When I bought "The Plan" my mother threatened to throw it in the dustbin as she thought I was being influenced by "those mormons". 30 years later, I still have it ON VINYL, and still listen to it,
My all time fav of theirs, such great harmonies, another classic from '73. Yeah I'm back on the big field at Minchendon Upper School, in Southgate N.14. At the the very end of a lovely hot summer. Pax to all Ian Smith.Xxx.
was on my way to my first day of college, doubting whether i was college material having graduated 7 years prior. heard this song and decided to go to my first class. now i'm a college prof.
@lovemuffin1963 I agree! I have loved the Osmonds for 39 years! I still have my albums and 45's and they still play to. No one can top the Osmonds! Jeannie Taylor
@lovemuffin1963 Totally agree :) Im a 46yr old male & these guys & the bay city rollers have gr8 childhood memories for me, but dont tell my friends ;) xx
Hi Azosfan! Yup, need that daily Osmandvitamin! Cheers me up! Jay is cute; I would be interested in knowing why he is your favorite. I'm definitely a Merrill girl but I've come to admire them all in their own right. To me, Merrill is the sexiest man in the history of the universe!
Hahaha ladies I know what you mean my hubby has been dealing with the whole 'Merrill' thing for quite sometime now. Actually he's really great about it after all it was he who bought my ticket to see the Osmonds in Perth this year and surprised me with it for Mothers Day, only I received it a month early cause he could not keep the secret for that long. He also sat in the car waiting for me (over an hour) whilst I was talking with some fans after the show. Such a sweetie.
These videos can't be understated! If you want some good positive media for the day, you can't get much more positive than this. The Osmonds are a great example of what happens when you make the choice to live right and be a positive example to millions. They've been blessed by blessing others!
You probably already saw the "Being Osmond" You Tube segment where Merrill reveals his innermost feelings. Now I know what you mean by his beautiful soul. I was shocked to hear he was bulimic & thinks he is not good-looking. He also speaks of death threats from husbands who want to kill him because their wives are obsessed with him!
I really enjoyed watching this one. Thank you. It's always better seeing a great song done live! Merrill always had/has an awesome voice but, you gotta admit each of them are/were extremely talented in their own right!
Yes I to come every day for a little Osmondizing (well Merrillizing actually) this is one of my favourite videos of them - I love Merrill's shirt, his face, those 'take me to bed eyes'(yes please), kissable lips, gorgeous smile - oops sorry got carried away then - he so mesmerizing.
Thanks for your comments on my page everything getting back in sync now hope all is well with you.
Merrilyn, you describe how I see Merrill too! Donny is cute but Merrill has that certain something. When I watch him sing, he takes me into another world. Even now, his eyes twinkle and shine; time has not taken away his gorgeousness!!!!!
Lyn, True, you never forget your first crush. I still think they are great people. They seem so down to earth. They have all aged well. Donny is like a smooth wine not just in looks but in personality. Merrill's cool, too.
I think Donny has a painting in the attic if you know what I mean. He doesn't seem to have aged at all nor does he look like he's had work done and if he has, he sure chose a great surgeon!
Yeah, I know it's from The Plan album and that the song is about a relationship with God, but I guess one can make it mean something different at times. It's a beautiful song.
This has to be my favorite video! Love the song and love the closeups! The whole thing is ULTIMATE OSMOND! PERFECTION! Merrill is an absolute doll in this!
Hey you guys what's wrong with us? I am an old lady (over 50) already (but then so are the Osmonds) and I still gotta get this daily "fix" of Merrill. I gotta sneak it in when my hubby is not looking or else he'll think I've gone off the deep end. . . .
I know what you mean! I have to see them everyday or it isn't complete! My husband has resigned himself to the fact that there will always be OSMONDS in our marriage!! Amanda
i have to watch an episode of The Donny and Marie Show everyday, or else i wo'nt be able to go on. but its not my husband who gets angry(well duh, im only 12!) its my mom. she gets so annoyed by my fixation on them, even though she was an osmond fan herself.
You're only 12? What about the groups today--do you like them? You should check out if you haven't already done so in You Tube, "Being Osmond"; you'll get a real good insight on these wonderful men (especially of course babe Merrill!) You'll love them even more for their wonderful personalities!
shirt what shirt - I've watched this clip a hundred times and I never notice anything else but Merrill's beautiful face - I kid - yes I thought the poka-dots were petty cool.
Here in my clips I have footage I took of Merrill singing this song at the 50th Tour here in Australia in Perth please have a look.
Anyways during this song - in fact the whole concert (except of course when Donny, Marie and Jimmy did their bit) I could not take my eyes off Merrill, I was absolutely mesmerized by him I don't even remember anyone else being on stage with him I was that focused. I guess you could say I am Merrillized.
I too listen&watch the Osmonds on my OPod every day.
Like you Lyn I couldn't take my eyes off Merrill, couldn't tell ya what the other guys were doing. Hope they bring out a dvd of the tour so I can see what I missed. 4 ever Merrillized g/f
Oh me too Deb it would be nice to see what Alan, Wayne, Jay, Donny, Jimmy and Marie were up to when our babe was on stage with them - I know they were there, I'm sure they were singing, dancing or something but I only had eyes for Merrill.
I agree Marie have a look at him when he sings 'LMFAR' (all copies) those big beautiful bedroom eye's pleading into the camera at every angle OMG whats a girl to do but go weak at the knees and say no,maybe,OMGYESYESYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
Love, Love, Love this song!!!! Have loved them ever since 1972! Donny was my favorite and Merrill my second! Truthfully Merrills voice was and is the perfect lead vocal! Thank so much for posting all of these! Brings back all the memories of listening to them for hours in my room and going to see them some 30 years ago!!
I remember me and the rest of the lads watching this when we were about 16. We used to turn the brightness down on the tele and all you could see was five sets of teeth floating on a black screen!
Ah man this is wicked! I grew up in Wales, was a little kid in the 70s, but my eldest sister was devoted to Jay and Alan more than Merrill, altho she fancied them all rotten! I live in NZ now, am a singer/musician myself and I reckon to this day these guys were great. Not in the way some of u ladies mite mean ;-) but Merrill had one bitchin voice and they were all multi instrumentalists. I went to see Donny in 06 when he played Wellington, was such a warm, happy gig. Who needs cynicism? Love it.
I agree Lyn, Merrill is THE voice of the Osmond Brothers. And he is just so dang sexy, then and now. He actually redefines the word 'sexy'. In the dictionary next to the word sexy is a picture of Merrill. Well, there should be.
Merill is top drawer !

My all time fav of theirs, such great harmonies, another classic from '73. Yeah I'm back on the big field at Minchendon Upper School, in Southgate N.14. At the the very end of a lovely hot summer. Pax to all Ian Smith.Xxx.

Such a sweetie.
lynjef7 3 years ago
Wow! Your hubby is wonderful! No wonder you have so many great things to say about him. A lot of men would be too impatient to do this. What a gem!
Dana888dana 3 years ago
@lynjef7 Does your husband have a brother exactly like him? I'm single. Haha!

These videos can't be understated! If you want some good positive media for the day, you can't get much more positive than this. The Osmonds are a great example of what happens when you make the choice to live right and be a positive example to millions. They've been blessed by blessing others!

Couldn't agree more! Well said! Amanda

Curious as to why both Alan and Donny are on the keyboards? Is one playing the keyboards and the other the piano? Good tune.

you can take merril lyn ill take the hottie on the keyboard

I really enjoyed watching this one. Thank you. It's always better seeing a great song done live! Merrill always had/has an awesome voice but, you gotta admit each of them are/were extremely talented in their own right!

Hey Amanda
Yes I to come every day for a little Osmondizing (well Merrillizing actually) this is one of my favourite videos of them - I love Merrill's shirt, his face, those 'take me to bed eyes'(yes please), kissable lips, gorgeous smile - oops sorry got carried away then - he so mesmerizing.
Thanks for your comments on my page everything getting back in sync now hope all is well with you.
cheers

PS I love my new name Gail gave me LOL.

Merrilyn, you describe how I see Merrill too! Donny is cute but Merrill has that certain something. When I watch him sing, he takes me into another world. Even now, his eyes twinkle and shine; time has not taken away his gorgeousness!!!!!
Dana888dana 3 years ago 5
Yes Karen Merrill really does have that some thing extra going on and for me like you its all in the EYES - oh so sexy.
lynjef7 3 years ago 4
Lyn, True, you never forget your first crush. I still think they are great people. They seem so down to earth. They have all aged well. Donny is like a smooth wine not just in looks but in personality. Merrill's cool, too.
maryautism 3 years ago
I think Donny has a painting in the attic if you know what I mean. He doesn't seem to have aged at all nor does he look like he's had work done and if he has, he sure chose a great surgeon!
Dana888dana 3 years ago
Hahahah 'dana' we will have to call him 'Dorian' instead of Donny from now on.
lynjef7 3 years ago
Lyn, you take Merrill, I'll take Donny--although, they are ALL WONDERFUL!!!
maryautism 3 years ago
Agree they are all wonderful but my Merrill is very special as I'm sure you Donny is heheh lol.

Yeah, I know it's from The Plan album and that the song is about a relationship with God, but I guess one can make it mean something different at times. It's a beautiful song.

Hey you guys what's wrong with us? I am an old lady (over 50) already (but then so are the Osmonds) and I still gotta get this daily "fix" of Merrill. I gotta sneak it in when my hubby is not looking or else he'll think I've gone off the deep end. . . .
Dana888dana 3 years ago 2
I know what you mean! I have to see them everyday or it isn't complete! My husband has resigned himself to the fact that there will always be OSMONDS in our marriage!! Amanda
cublovers 3 years ago
i have to watch an episode of The Donny and Marie Show everyday, or else i wo'nt be able to go on. but its not my husband who gets angry(well duh, im only 12!) its my mom. she gets so annoyed by my fixation on them, even though she was an osmond fan herself.
whiplash567 3 years ago
You're only 12? What about the groups today--do you like them? You should check out if you haven't already done so in You Tube, "Being Osmond"; you'll get a real good insight on these wonderful men (especially of course babe Merrill!) You'll love them even more for their wonderful personalities!
Dana888dana 3 years ago
Merrill's shirt is ace! :D
dizzymisslizzylane 3 years ago
shirt what shirt - I've watched this clip a hundred times and I never notice anything else but Merrill's beautiful face - I kid - yes I thought the poka-dots were petty cool.

I too listen&watch the Osmonds on my OPod every day.
lynjef7 3 years ago
Like you Lyn I couldn't take my eyes off Merrill, couldn't tell ya what the other guys were doing. Hope they bring out a dvd of the tour so I can see what I missed. 4 ever Merrillized g/f
osbird 3 years ago
Oh me too Deb it would be nice to see what Alan, Wayne, Jay, Donny, Jimmy and Marie were up to when our babe was on stage with them - I know they were there, I'm sure they were singing, dancing or something but I only had eyes for Merrill.

He really is the 'true voice' of the Osmonds (and if your Merrillized like we are the 'most' gorgeous - yum).

I remember me and the rest of the lads watching this when we were about 16. We used to turn the brightness down on the tele and all you could see was five sets of teeth floating on a black screen!
Well we were lads after all!

And they are singing about God!
humboldt777 4 years ago
Yes they are, the song is from the album The Plan. I think it was us fans that turned it into a love song.
osbird 4 years ago
:) Amen.
humboldt777 4 years ago
Where Merrills concerned he could be singing about garbage and it would still be like he's singing a love song just for you (big sigh).
lynjef7 3 years ago
This has got to be my favourite of them all. Merrill was gorgeous then, and the 'silver fox' is still gorgeous now. Just luv him, luv him, luv him.
osbird 4 years ago
Oh he is so yum Deb - SIMPLY THE BEST
lynjef7 4 years ago
ooooh loving Merril is so easy!

Silver Fox! LOL.
humboldt777 4 years ago 2
Ah man this is wicked! I grew up in Wales, was a little kid in the 70s, but my eldest sister was devoted to Jay and Alan more than Merrill, altho she fancied them all rotten! I live in NZ now, am a singer/musician myself and I reckon to this day these guys were great. Not in the way some of u ladies mite mean ;-) but Merrill had one bitchin voice and they were all multi instrumentalists. I went to see Donny in 06 when he played Wellington, was such a warm, happy gig. Who needs cynicism? Love it.
taffynz62 4 years ago
Merrill's 'grizzly' voice is what first drew me to him and to this day he still remains the 'true' voice of the Osmonds.
lynjef7 4 years ago
I agree Lyn, Merrill is THE voice of the Osmond Brothers. And he is just so dang sexy, then and now. He actually redefines the word 'sexy'. In the dictionary next to the word sexy is a picture of Merrill. Well, there should be.
sionnach1128 3 years ago 6
So totally agree 'sionnach' next to his yummy picture should also be the words:
Merrillized - cause thats what happens to ya when you totally adore this gorgeous man.
and
Sexsalicious - cause he's so damn sexy and so totally delicious at the same time.
