Rough translation: Gari is pickled ginger. The word for the chopping board is manaita. Geta is the traditional footwear. The salt by the doorway is an offering to God and should never be eaten.
@tank9980 i know i am replying to a very old post, but let me say that i took your words as advice and ate the salt outside. it really was amazing. i emptied most of the dish into my pocket for later use.
this is a joke movie you can buy in joke stores. its not real. the basis of the joke regards supposedly some japanese who need to be educated of "japanese culture" because they supposedly dont know it, and foreign tourists are expecting the orientalistic stereotype of "the Japanese" to exist. but of course those "the japanese" do not exist in reality and are just a ethnic stereotype of foreigners imagination. this movie is a parody of a parody. creative presentation though :D

That was hilarious, I just ate a sushi-ya in Osaka today and the only thing I remembered to do was lick the salt dish outside. I love the salt dish!
