Hey thank you so so much for uploading this series, it was a massive part of my childhood and I have just watched it all with my son who loved it too!!! However.... Maybe I am mixing up my broom cupboard dramas, but i was SURE there was a scene in this one where Minty asked Tom to meet her at a certain time and he said that he couldn't because he had no way of telling the time... So she gave him her watch. I remember him being so in awe of a tiny clock!! Was this not Moondial?
@Xynanda Could just be Tom's Midnight Garden.. that had a boy who went back in time every night, when the clock struck 13, and knew an older girl called Hattie.
omg im so glad this was uploaded i have been spending years trying to explain to friends about this program as i watched it as a child and it left an impact on me it was kind of scary to watch back then but great watching it back now and i can finaly show friends what i was blabbering on about all this time lol
Finished watching the whole series! Am glad it ends well. I wasn't scared much this time but yeah this was quite terrifying to watch as a kid. ;-) Many thanks for uploading. Enjoyed it much.
um.. I happened to find this when i was searching for The Secret World Of Polly Flint, which is another TV series i remember as a child, & it being as enchanting & mysterious as this one. I think i've mixed up the two stories in my head.
Thank you , thank you so much for this, i thought id imagined this series ! i found it quite scary as i kid. They dont make them like this anymore, most things are dumbed down for kids now. Thanks again , really enjoyed it .
Watching this very atmospheric drama makes me wonder what has happened to contemporary children's TV, even the BBC's. It's abysmal in comparison to this programme which is now 22 years old!
oh its been so good to watch this again.. as a child it used to scare me silly but i couldnt help but watch, you know with a pillow in front of my face lol .. ive been wanting to see this again for years.. im so glad i found it on here ..thank you
fantastic!! :D Thank you so much for uploading the whole thing, just been watching the whole lot! What a magical story! It was just as good now as it was back then :)
thank you so much im 42 now and loved it as much as the first time round dont suppose you know where to get hold of come back Lucy do you its nigh on impossible to get in any format
I cant believe everyone is raving about this! this show gave me the serious creeps..way to strong for an 8 year old boy! in fact i think im gonna have a relapse!! mummy! mummy! can i sleep in your room tonight ..i know im 29 years old but i just been wathcing moondial! im gonna hide under the sheets!
Funny you should mention Aquilla...(lol) I was going to say that show was about the last decent thing I remember being shown on CBBC and I used to watch it avidly with my daughters every week! Yes you're right there isn't the atmosphere with kids TV anymore, or the challenge to the intellect - like adult TV it's been dumbed down.Thank goodness for YouTube and good folks like yourself who post these beloved classics like Moondial:-)
Even though I wasn't a kid when this was on TV in 1988 - in fact I was 22 and pregant with my daughter! I remember watching it from a video tape with a friend - so yes even adults loved this series! It still is exellent - always love Jaqueline Pearce too (who's now retired from acting and is a conservationist -working in Africa caring for orphaned monkeys aparently) and yes I'm old enough to remember her in Blake's 7 too!
As Moondial makes for scary viewing, , your comment reminds me of my mum who was a bit spooked after seeing 'Rosemary's Baby' on tv in 1977 (just before my older sister was born). I don't think it's strange for an adult to watch this series as it's quite a sophisticated adaptation. lol I know some ppl at colelge who watched things like Aquila on Cbbc between bouts revision!
I've just watched the entire series thank you so much for uploading it. I was telling my fiance about it and thought I'd Youtube it in hope it was there! I remembered watching it and eagerly wanting the next part as a child.. and being scared!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been trying to hunt this down for years. I remember watching it when I was 7 and thinking it was amazing. And it still is.
Thank you so much for posting this, I was just 6 years old when I used to watch this, And I still rmember it.. and Im now 27 haha, my sister also said thank you as she is 29 now and she used to watch it too xx Loved it xx
Thank you so much for uploading all 12 of these! I started reading this when i was 10, then never found out what happend, I started reading the book again recently. My mum tried to get me the video/dvd of this, but she couldn't get it anywhere! I'm nearly 14 now, so its been nearly 4 years!
Thanks for all this, but shame it is not the full version as shown on TV - what happened to the scene for example, where Minty lends Tom her watch and he loses it? This scene I had on tape in an episode I kept so I'm not imagining things! Why don't they release the whole thing??
Older programs are slower-paced than modern shows, which can sometimes leave you feeling as if they're not as good as you remember. The episodic format of the broadcast would also have heightened tensions and intensified the imagination the way a feature-length version can't ever do. Don't assume it's your memory that's playing tricks - modern styles and modern technology might be the ones cheating.
I have to admit the ending baffles me to this day - did Edward die (as a child) during the story (in order to use the Moondial) or after escaping into Sarah's time? Was Sarah in a time at all, or somewhere in between? When did Edward learn that it was a moondial and not a sundial - or was that scene lost in editing somewhere? Sarah is clearly related to the modern visitor, or was the visitor and Sarah's mother one and the same? Does that mean the old man is related to Tom?
Thank you so much for sharing this! I watched it all through for the first time since I saw it on TV 20 years ago! (Gosh, that makes me feel old! ^^) I still remembered the Moondial spin around and Miss Raven and the Devil's Child... Some things leave deep traces in your memory!
I remember this when I was a kid. They just don't make kid's programmes like this anymore, it's all sex-fuelled crap like "Skins". When aer kids nowadays ALLOWED to be kids, withouot having sex rammed down their throats from so early?? Thanks for sharing, enjoyed the memories!
Excellent, the BBC do their classics well, just wish they countinued to spend their money, our money, on the classics. Do you remember when they did Elidor? We need The Secret Garden and Tom's midnt garden again.
i remember elidor got it on vhs recorded off the telly in fact its sitting in the bookcase behind me lol. I miss all the old stuff. does any1 remember the boy from andromeda?
Thank-you very much for posting the whole series. It was a wonderful and very pleasant surprise. Brought back lots of fond after-school memories as well as being a bloody good story. They don't make em'like that anymore. Cheers!
Thanks so much for posting this. I saw bits of it when it was originally on, the 'devil's child' and the realization that the grave was Tom's stick in the mind. Didn't get home in time from school on Wednesdays always to watch it. Given that I was 16 at the time you'd have thought I'd be doing other things but the lads at school were just as bad, we were all watching it!
It's because the grave, which she'd already seen much earlier, was marked with 'EL 1871', ie it was Tom's grave. This was probably linked in with the coughing up blood part.
ok, so i admit, i didn't watch it all the way through - no time. But could someone explain, why is the name 'Edward Larkin' important? Other than it was Teddy's/Tom's name, i am drawing a blank. Thanks.
dunno she has her own website i think but its Sarah im trying to trace she used to babysit me when she was 13 or 14 i was little last i heard shed left acting and worked in a petrol station at 17 what shes doing now god knows
Maybe when you're rich and famous you could get yourself some spelling lessons. Don't want any mistakes on your flyers for when you're advertising your next gig in Cork.
np, glad to bring back some of the cbbc broom cupboard - however I may make these 'private' in future as the beeb have removed my blackadder pilot clips this month
..so if anyone wants them let me know and i will make them public for a couple of days, then put them away again..saves the risk of being banned. :)
I was 35 when this came on, and too old for childrens tv, but probably missed some good stuff, but did see box of delights at the time in the 80s.
