Well if you want to get technical it's digital but it's still vibrating a speaker at a certain frequency to make sound which in turn creates the vibrations in the air-waves to hit your ear.

I prefer the version on Another VU. Subdued, quiet, powerful. Ruined by a loose mic cable or overloaded pre-amp input stage on Lou's vocals.

If you don't want the skip and scratch you can always apply a fine coat of saline solution with a q-tip as the disc revolves. (But maybe we want to keep the scratch, eh?)
