Since when does the concept of sin have anything to do with Buddhism? This is a beautiful mantra, and I appreciate it as such. I have been taught that having a pure intent while reciting mantras is sufficient to gain merit.
@TheKrisIyer Big Deal. Trying to show off your proficiency in Sanskrit. Sanskrit is ancient language that has been passed down for thousands of years. How can you be so sure you are right. What so fatal? The chanter will die? One wrong pronunciation brings destructive result? One wrong pronunciation defeats the devout chanting of the this mantra. Go home and sleep.
@TheSpeaknoevil I make the comment because I can see ākarṣāya in the text above and hear it being pronounced ār ka ṣāya. Passionate devotion is required but being casual and imperfect in pronunciation detracts from sincerity of devotion and you do not gain any merit. If you are really sincere you would make sure you are putting full effort in pronouncing correctly. Also you should have zero expectations of results when you chant mantras. Benefits may be purely incidental to gaining merit.
@TheSpeaknoevil Actually this is also a tantric mantra - ends with om phat svaha. You should not practice it without observing the discipline (not at odd times of the day or odd places, not while sitting on the bed or couch, not when you are wearing unwashed clothes or leather etc). It is not a devotional hymn. Any deviation from the strict discipline leads to mockery at the least and amounts to sin at worst. If you have faith in its power, be assured making mistakes will also amount to sin.
@TheKrisIyer You might have brought up attention to the differences in practices of Theravada, Mahayana, and Tantrayana... =)
If I practise Theravada, I totally agree with you; if I practise Mahayana, I may or may not agree with you; if I practise Tantrayana, I may not agree with you; if I practise Dzogchen....Huh? What is the nature of sin or merit?....
A song is wonerful ! A mellody is out of this world, just second to none ! But singing alone does not do a job. There must be correct teaching and correct practice to adopt, if we want to acomplish the subject of the song. This is satori. Enlightenment of all buddhas. How to acomplish song's destiny? " A girl is singing now. " If you understand this statement, then you attained something valuable, which will help you later on in your life, both in this existence, as well as in the next one.
@rodoflight2 You give up what is the answer. Very good. Put it all down. Eat when hungry. Rest when tired. Enjoy your Life. Don't be nervous. If you have no hindrances in wordly situations then that is the best.

The pronunciation of aa - kar - shaya is incorrect - she pronounces it as ar - ka - shaya. In Sanskrit mantras these flaws are fatal
