Fuel cells electric would be great, but that even further away than battery electric. For the near term we need wide use of CNG, propane and E85 or higher alcohol.
Either way... saving fuel. pollution is less than would be from normal cars and cost to charge with electricity is much less than filling a tank with fuel. Could also come from solar plants, nuclear, geothermal, wind, etc.
Hydrogen fuel cell I agree is a much better solution but it still has some work before it will be affordable and dependable.
@flyinghigh5544 Yeah i think the volt is cool and all, im a huge computer nerd and i love all the cool stuff in the interior. But my only problem with this car is, they need to quit saying its a damn "electric" car when it still contains a petrol motor, sure its only to use of if the batteries run out, but its still a petrol motor helping to propel the car, still using petrol.
Btw, Does anyone know if this car uses Lithium Ion Batteries :o?
That is true. If you are wanting an elect car than this is one as long as your commute is less than 40 miles. I'm sure they can just as easily make it without the generator but it provides flexibility to make it a more logical buy. As said before a change to a petrol free world won't happen instantly There needs to be a transition so a solid foundation can be built such as H2 fueling stations This car is a transition into better technologies.
I can see that, however right now honda is already running trials with the FCX Clarity, and i believe Shell is the company working with honda in california to make hydrogen for those cars
I really can see hydrogen as the replacement to gasoline.
absolutely agree. H2 is the new gasoline. the volt is nice to have now until H2 is widely available and cars are affordable. Quite honestly I would rather just go buy a hydrogen car but It would take so much extra effort at this point in time to fill it up/ maint./ etc. I am starting to think you are biased towards honda which is cool, everybody has to work together to make a change. btw almost all car companies are researching hydrogen cars
No i am not biased. i hate taking sides. However Honda has already made a production car, while others are still prototypes or wayyy still in development.
Yes it will most definitally take a WHILE to get the world to go H2 and it wont be easy. But Gasoline was so 20th century, its the 21st now :)
Al Gore is in tears !!!

Heres the problem with this car, where is that electricity coming from?? What if it is from a coal source?
Hydrogen Fuel Cell is the way to go, thank god honda is already leading that.

@GTGTRR And more awesome than a Prius, and cheaper then converting a Prius to a plug-in.
