I've found that when trying to line up items to overlay, like the printed sheet on the cover of your card, It's easiest to add adhesive to only one edge or corner of the item, line up and adhere to the base, and THEN curl the paper back to apply adhesive to the remainder. Centering and positioning becomes 'easy-peasy'!
