Man I Love and Miss Mr James Brown. PURE Rhythmic GENIUS PAR EXCELLENCE. He opens the song in "D" OMG! OMG! Who does that but a GENIUS! who is unafraid and a TRUE INNNOVATOR! If you know music the low key expression he plays in is in D............wiping a tear from my eyes!
This was only a top 15 r & b hit in 1979 and didn't even make the top 100 pop chart, so it really wasn't much a a hit, but he kept it in his show for years while ignoring much bigger hits. To put it in perspective, 2 of his records from 1988, "Static" and "I'm Real" went to #5 and # 2 respectively on the soul chart.
This is the only filmed live version of this song that is actually done in a completely spontaneous way, with him going to the bridge more than usual. All other versions I have seen on here, or personally in concert (over 30 of those), he denagrated this song to a formulmatic soulless performance, much the same thing he did with 'Funky Good Time' and 'Get Up Offa That Thing'.
