Sorry for the confusion. I show a picture of my Dan Tran just so the viewer can see what a zither looks like. Here in the west, very few people have seen one! ALL the music you hear is played on the Japanese Koto! None of the music is from Vietnamese Dan Tranh.
Hi Bob, Great instrument for a collection. It should be cool to watch you play the intsr though.. And since you say you will sometime, It should really be worth the wait. Cheers! Ashwin
I wasn't expecting Tanko Bushi to sound this nice on a koto. You did great.

@stratocasterbob I understood now. You and baltimoreballs, you both right.
The pictured instrument is Dan Tranh and playing this song's melody line.
But 17gen-koto and normal size koto( 13 gen ) play another 2 parts differently.
I guess 3 parsons are playing this Japanese song.

@baltimoreballs You are right. This is not Japanese one and koto is japanese word.
But this song is Japanese, it called Tanko-bushi which my grandma used to sing.
There was a Miike coal mine in north part of Japan.
( tsuki ga deta deta, tsuki ga deta a yoi yoi, Miike tanko no ueni deta. Anmari entotsu ga takai node, sazoya o-tsuki san kemuta karo, sano yoi yoi.)

This is a really great sound.
I am researching Japanese music for a project at school and its great to hear what I'm actually writing about!

Try to find someone who can play ....it has a sound you have to hear live!
stratocasterbob 2 years ago
I would but I have already handed my project in but in the future I would like to visit Japan and I'm sure I will hear more Koto.

This music is called the "TANKOUBUSHI" in a Japanese traditional folk song.
I was surprised that you knew this music.
The performance is perfection and the tone of the KOTO is splendid, too.
I'm feel so good, ARIGATOU (Thank you my friend!!)
