2bsirius, I have always felt the pull of the Crab Nebula, though I cheated. Rather than becoming an astronomer first, I latched onto the x-ray photo, and the recorded movement caused by the neutron star inside. I have tried mightily to wrap my head around this incredible engine and it's environs, to only a tiny inkling of it's majesty, which doesn't bother me at all.
Of all the nebulae in the sky, there is one that has a special status. It used to be said that every astronomy lecture had to include a picture of the Crab Nebula and all astronomers could be divided into two simple classes; those who studied the Crab Nebula and those who did not.
Very nice rose!
