The Clothes Whirly is REAL! Check out my wind powered tumble clothes dryer. Cheap to make, easy to use, fun to watch. Kids love it, neighbors think it a hoot.
I've installed clotheslines proffessionaly for 15 years, and one thing I can tell you , is that you never hook a clothesline to a tree. One thing is that a tree will sway in the wind and snap your line. All trees move with the wind., Another is A tree has sap that continually drips and runs onto the clothes. And lastly birds will be in those trees dumping on your clean sheets. Just a tip, to remember,,,
@Myobokuuzan, yes, all trees have sap. Some trees have more than others. Maple tree sap is thin like water and has to be boiled down before it becomes maple syrup; pine tree sap is thick and gum-like. Once hardened and aged it becomes the semi-percious "stone" called amber.
I have to agree with Lumberboy, it is a bad idea to hang a clothesline to a tree. It invites disaster.
@evaani Oh I see. I want to hang a clothesline in my backyard but it's all Maple trees and What can I do then? I have been wanting to connect one from my wooden deck (that I built) and then let it run all the way to the tall old tree. I do have a large shed I built too the wood is thin though so I don't know if I can connect it to the side or the roof :S Do you think that would be possible?
just don't hang out those extra large panies

How do you keep it from sagging? There is a device called a spreader - what is it for?
