NOT a fan of cutting anything off an animal for looks. Spaying and Neutering are one thing but when you start cutting their ears and dewclaws it just pisses me off. Theres no cause to hurt an animal just because you think they would look better altered.

Danes are very protective. Often this is misread as aggression. You just have to approach them properly and all will be well. Males can be tricky with this, but never seen aggression in any of the 10+ I've been involved with. Amazingly intelligent animals.

Here is an idea: This video speaks about the agression being bred out of the breed and I can see that. I know that other people see it too, and some inner aprehension calls the dogs characteristics agressive, but they know deep down their animal is bred not with biting in mind. I would suggest teaching people how to bring out this none biting trait these huge dogs have! They are so rambunkious. If I knew what the dog was at, I would be much more appreciative of his rufious ruckus doggggg!

We should say that life is expectant in this breed, and they are bred for a purpose. This is why the dog carries such a respected name, even to people who don't know that much about them (like me). I just wonder if their true potential has an adequate outlet, or if someone should speak for them? I would introduce the dog to a boxer that likes to jump because it looks like they can indeed carry their weight!! Thank you.

My step mom had a dane/lab mix that saved my life. My dad had been unloading supplies for an order when i was 4 and I was playing in the yard when suddenly giant Sadie grabbed me by the shirt and dragged me in the house, and would not let me back out. Later i went to look at the spot she dragged me away from and there was a huge fire ant hill. I'm severely allergic to ants and if i were to step on that ant hill i wouldnt be here today.

danes can be so smart, ive been around big dogs all my life and never owned a dog as clever as the G. danes. for example there's a portuguese breed called the Castro Laboreiro, and they´re one of the biggest and toughest breeds of dogs, since they´re not long ago crossed with wolves. they´re trully huge, but dumb. they serve as shepperds and carriers in villages at great altitude as Castro Laboreiro ( which is north of Portugal, right in the mountains) . go check em out

@01tubaplayer unfortunately yes. they are somewhat prone to heart problems, and their stomachs can flip if they exercise with a full stomach. so if you get a dane, make sure you let him or her rest for a good hour or so before you run around with him.

012345liam. you are very wrong. i have a 195lb black. hes huge (bigger than any in this video.) and the ears are cropped. they are cut then held up (same thing is done to dogs tails. its like a ear piercing). but doing this helps them get less ear infections and looks better. hence why all show danes have it done. it was origanlly done in germany so the dogs wouldnt get their ears bit while unting hogs! lol

Labradane are great mixes! If you're ever at a shelter and see a labradane puppy, definitely give him or her consideration. A have one who is a very sweet, lovable dog with sharp wit and a good personality.

@BluehLion I have a 7 month old dane named Luger, he's 100lbs and is totally happy in my one bedroom apartment, he gets a 45 minute walk every morning and a 1-2 hour romp in the dog park in the afternoon with a quick bathroom break in the evening. As long as your place isn't too cramped full of stuff so they have room to play and sprawl out and lots of walks, you should be alright (be prepared for them to take over your couches though lol)

When I was a kid our neighbors had the MOST amazingly sweet Dane named Benchley. He tolerated everything we put him thru including dressing him up in a dress, floppy hat, sunglasses, purse and high heels! One night the family came home from the movies to find Benchley laying on top of a burglar. The poor guy begged them to call their "vicious" dog off. Apparently he had snuck up on the guy as he broke in thru a window and then pounced on him, holding him there until help arrived. Amazing dog!

I own a Great Dane, and absolutely have to say this is the smartest breed around. My dog Molly can do anything you ask and takes very little training. She's a sweet,gentle giant who thinks she is a tiny chihuahua. I love this breed and always have ever since I was a little girl. This is the best companion!
