I love the GT-R but man there are a lot of butthurt Nissan fans. The tires on the ZR1 are street tires that you can buy from TireRack, not these magical "super slicks" AWD and all that technology can't over come the extra fat on the GT-R.
Why is the vette running on super slicks tires and a roll cage equipped in this run and does a 7:19...while previously it did a 7:26 with stock tires and stock form...WHY???? While th eGTR35 did it in semi wet conditions and factory sports tire.....Wait....put some super slicks on the GTR!

According to the Nürburgring official lap times, the 7:19 by the ZR1 was "base specification car with optional super-slick track DOT competition tires" whereas the 7:24 by the 2011 GT-R was on stock tires in "Semi-wet conditions". Get your facts straight you silly american.

Let me take a guess at the comments above. The Top Gear test track isn`t a proper track. The bends are`nt right. The straights are`nt 4 miles long for the Vettes to catch up. The tarmac isn`t compatable with the Vettes. The Vettes don`t like British weather, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.

2012 Corvette ZR1 .......638 hp........2011 Nissan GTR.....485 hp.........153 hp less than the Corvette and nearly 500 lbs heavier than the ZR1 and within 5 secs of it, so who`s the real winner here. Can you just imagine what a 638 hp and 500 lb lighter GTR would do to the ZR1. The GTR is an everyday useable family car. @andwestuk The only way that you are going to keep your foot out of your mouth is to do some research and find the facts. The Nurburgring time set this year of 7:24.22 was with a 2012 GTR which is rated at 530 hp (not 485) which is 25 more hp than the Z06 (505 hp). Yes, the Vette has the weight advantage, I never said it didn't, but the GTR has the power-to-the-road advantage with AWD. The FACT, at this time, is that both the ZR1 and the Z06 rules the Nurburgring over the GTR.
@andwestuk This post is about the Nurburgring & track performance, not drag racing. That a different story which involves 2-wheel drive vs 2-wheel drive. Duh, a car with 75% more drive-wheel contact surface out launches the other. A ZR1 or Z06 will walk away from the GTR from a 60 mph roll. Put a pair of tires on the rear (or better yet AWD) on either Vette with the same as the contact area of the GTR's AWD and the GTR will be looking at the Vette's tail lights at the quarter-mile finish.
@Onyasix ...If its all about the Nurburgring then as you say, there is a very important fact that you seem to be ignoring. The GTR`s time of 7min 24.22 sec was set in semi wet conditions and the Corvettes was set in totally dry conditions WITH super slick tyres (non standard or cheating). The GTR team could of course change the body shell to plastic like the ZR1 and Z06 but they would`nt stoop so low. We`ve got standards over here. We like a reasonable chance of surviving a crash and not being smashed to a pulp when a plastic car disintigrates on hitting anything. The GTR is an incredible car and its getting faster each year

The GTR is driving on a semi wet track and the ZR1 has upgraded tires. If that was the vette on the wet track it would not lap at 7:24 but much slower. Nissan still has to lap on the dry but probably won't because they have nothing to prove.

@sw1000xg The GTR has launch control, AWD, paddle shifters, and all kind of other electronic aids to help lap times. Why cry about the ZR1 using stickier tires? Like I stated earlier the Michelin PS cup tires are offered on the production version of the ZR1. They handle better and have a better tread wear rating than the standard ZR1 tires. Now I could understand if these were added on aftermarket but you can get these on your ZR1 straight from the factory so you have no argument.

@StandardRacing Take the Z06 2011 it ran the Laguna Seca on Eagle F1 tires! time 1:37.40 improved over 3 seconds because of the ZR1 upgrade that's fantastic... And the 2011 Z06 is identical to the 2012 apart from the interior and the tires! But then it's time is 1:34 with the near slicks! Again desperation to get the fastest time with the minimal tweaks!
@sw1000xg And once again what is your argument? The tires are offered as a factory option, not an aftermarket option. Therefore this is a factory spec ZR1 just like what a customer can order if they want. It's not desperation, it's run what you brung and hope you brung enough. In this case the GT-R didn't bring enough to hang with the ZR1.

Not like you can drive like this on the street. Given the choice I would choose the ZR1.

@sw1000xg I guess the best way to answer your question would be if you were a company and taking your car to a test track wouldn't you want to use the best stuff in your inventory? The tires you keep mentioning are street legal therefore they can be used on the street. It would be the same as a drag racer putting drag radials on his car. They might not be the best choice for everyday driving but then again there are plenty of ZR1 drivers who only drive their cars on sunny days.

The GTR was using summer tires i.e. wet and dry tires! the ZR1/Z06 using racing near slicks! So how did it beat the GTR? The conditions are completly different! If the ZR1/Z06 did a lap time on the PS2 for the ZR1 and the Eagle F1 tires and beat the GTR then you could say it did but then it still ran a damp time! @Pasanonic. You are 100% wrong. The ZR1 didn't have a roll cage at all. Stop reading Wiki because that is the only place that is documented. The car had the full interior and was stock from the factory. I know what cages look like in a car and I spotted the bars down the A-pillars in the LFA right away. Your assessment of how the ZR1 was run is inaccurate. They use a horizontal bar to mount the 5 point harness which is required to run the Ring and both used the same equipment.
I'll let you fanboys fight amongst yourselves but there is a small matter which is overlooked here. The GT-R was stock, out of the box with stock road tyres and it's a confirmed semi-wet lap ( in that some but not all of the track was wet )
The ZR1 ran on Michelin Super-Slick competition DOT tyres on a fully dry lap. It had the interior removed and was stiffened with a roll cage.
I'll make no judgement on either car but this is important information that track racers will understand.
both cars are awesome....the acceleration and grip of the GTR is amazing and the power of the corvette is staggering...but i think i would take home the nissan...its the bigger winner here if you ask me....who woulda thought it would ever give the 640 hp ZR1 more than a run for its money...and both are sick for embarassing their overpriced rivals

It still does`nt change the fact that the GTR`s time was set in the semi wet with standard road legal tyres and the corvettes was set in the dry with non road legal slicks. @andwestuk The only way that you are going to keep your foot out of your mouth is to do some research and find the facts. The Nurburgring time set this year of 7:24.22 was with a 2012 GTR which is rated at 530 hp (not 485) which is 25 more hp than the Z06 (505 hp). Yes, the Vette has the weight advantage, I never said it didn't, but the GTR has the power-to-the-road advantage with AWD. The FACT, at this time, is that both the ZR1 and the Z06 rules the Nurburgring over the GTR.

@andwestuk This post is about the Nurburgring & track performance, not drag racing. That a different story which involves 2-wheel drive vs 2-wheel drive. Duh, a car with 75% more drive-wheel contact surface out launches the other. A ZR1 or Z06 will walk away from the GTR from a 60 mph roll. Put a pair of tires on the rear (or better yet AWD) on either Vette with the same as the contact area of the GTR's AWD and the GTR will be looking at the Vette's tail lights at the quarter-mile finish.

The GTR`s time of 7min 24.22 sec was set in semi wet conditions and the Corvettes was set in totally dry conditions WITH super slick tyres (non standard or cheating). The GTR is driving on a semi wet track and the ZR1 has upgraded tires. If that was the vette on the wet track it would not lap at 7:24 but much slower. Nissan still has to lap on the dry but probably won't because they have nothing to prove.

@sw1000xg The GTR has launch control, AWD, paddle shifters, and all kind of other electronic aids to help lap times. Why cry about the ZR1 using stickier tires? Like I stated earlier the Michelin PS cup tires are offered on the production version of the ZR1. They handle better and have a better tread wear rating than the standard ZR1 tires. Now I could understand if these were added on aftermarket but you can get these on your ZR1 straight from the factory so you have no argument.

@StandardRacing Take the Z06 2011 it ran the Laguna Seca on Eagle F1 tires! time 1:37.40 improved over 3 seconds because of the ZR1 upgrade that's fantastic... And the 2011 Z06 is identical to the 2012 apart from the interior and the tires! But then it's time is 1:34 with the near slicks! Again desperation to get the fastest time with the minimal tweaks!

Therefore this is a factory spec ZR1 just like what a customer can order if they want. It's not desperation, it's run what you brung and hope you brung enough. In this case the GT-R didn't bring enough to hang with the ZR1.

The tires you keep mentioning are street legal therefore they can be used on the street. It would be the same as a drag racer putting drag radials on his car. The GTR was using summer tires i.e. wet and dry tires! the ZR1/Z06 using racing near slicks! So how did it beat the GTR? The conditions are completly different! If the ZR1/Z06 did a lap time on the PS2 for the ZR1 and the Eagle F1 tires and beat the GTR then you could say it did but then it still ran a damp time! But if they ran on those tires the ZR1 time would be no different!

@Pasanonic. You are 100% wrong. The ZR1 didn't have a roll cage at all. Stop reading Wiki because that is the only place that is documented. The car had the full interior and was stock from the factory. I know what cages look like in a car and I spotted the bars down the A-pillars in the LFA right away. Your assessment of how the ZR1 was run is inaccurate. They use a horizontal bar to mount the 5 point harness which is required to run the Ring and both used the same equipment.

I'll let you fanboys fight amongst yourselves but there is a small matter which is overlooked here. The GT-R was stock, out of the box with stock road tyres and it's a confirmed semi-wet lap ( in that some but not all of the track was wet )
The ZR1 ran on Michelin Super-Slick competition DOT tyres on a fully dry lap. It had the interior removed and was stiffened with a roll cage.
I'll make no judgement on either car but this is important information that track racers will understand.

GM does over 300 hours of dyno redline testing on their high performance engines before they decide to put them into production. Which is why all Corvettes come with a 5 year / 100,000 powertrain mile warranty. And its not voided if you use the launch control.
