I agree that the scene flows way better w/o the Star Trek analogy-speech, even though it is an intriguing appeal to our logos. It is out of place...it would have been better inserted at the jazz cafe, or perhaps when Oliver's in a stupor at the bank and he starts rambling about Star Trek when the shit's going down...

Personally I think the film flows better without this scene. Though I like the Star Trek analysis, it kinda feels out of place. That being said, I'm not sure why this was censored seeing how Pulp Fiction and Requiem for a Dream had far more explicit scenes of people shooting up.

It sure does, in fact it has got two, a sensual one in the beginning with Julie Delpy and Eric Stoltz.

And a blurry/"druggy" one in a public restroom with Jean-Hugues... homosexual, if I'm not mistaken.

... But the "love scenes" are not what this movie is about, it's a really great film about a lot of "deep" subjects.

They didn't cut the drug scene, with "chasing zee dragon" - just Oliver's bit about Star Trek. They were good enough to leave in the part where Oliver is babbling about The Prisoner. This movie has so many amazing lines. "Your silly shit monkey piiiss all over my Billy 'oliday alboom! Next time he's out ze door!"

Oliver was awesome I thought all of his dialogue was hilarious. He is by far my second favorite character (Eric being first of course :D)

This scene is very funny.

To bad that it is only in the Directors Cut

and the only DVD with the DC is the French One

in a sort of way i miss strict censorship cause it some films or part of films to become cult classics and it was always fun finding lost scenes in later years or reading up about them, tbh i probably being too naustalgic

i'm guessing it was removed worldwide it's crazy how things move on, i think if this movie was released nowadays it probably wouldnt be cut at all, the drugs or the violence!.
