This is why I always face backwards on the train. If it crashes, instead of being thrown forward and injured, you're just pinned to the back of your seat.

What happens is, the train stops moving, but you don't. So you maintian the speed inside a stationary train, meaning you're suddenly sliding along your seat at 30 mph.

If you face backwards though, all that momentum simply pushes you into the back of you seat- where you already are, so you don't move and as a result, don't get hurt.

I think that guy in front hurt his leg. And at another part of the train, someone hit his head pretty hard on one of the vertical bars. You can see it on camera angles 1 and 3.

that was no longer the case on July 18, 2009 when another San Francisco Muni light rail train rear ended a light rail train already in the station platform injuring 50 people. there is still an investigation into what happened that resulted in the crash. usually it is operator error that cause light rail rear end collisions.

its not funny. i do appreciate the interaction between the sweet seemingly gay guy and the girl. he made a nice apology after the crash which frankly did not seem necessary from my angle. i've been riding muni my whole life and i do appreciate people from every angle in the videos seeing if folks are ok and looking out. i missed a 19 polk a couple months ago and when i caught the next one the bus i missed had crashed and everyone got on my bus talking about how they were gonna get cashed out.
