  • this looks like it was filmed on a bannana

  • @Danaetp well, he was meant to speak like an older jamaican because brad pitt's playing death.

  • excellent audio

  • excellent audio

  • Brad's terrible attempt at the Jamaican accent is laughable! However I've seen worst Jamaican accents in other Hollywood films. Anyone seen "Cool Runnings", based on a true story about a Jamaican bobsliegh team entering the Olympics? As a black person I can probably see why white actors would have trouble delevering the patois but its strange to see black actors failing with it even more!

  • @FadahRon loved Cool Runnings!

  • rahtid!!! lmfao

  • "I'm from the next place" Can't fight the chills every time I listen to that bit. Scare the living daylights out of me.

  • It's better and better reversed and executed than most actors especially black actors have cared to do. I respect it...and I'm Jamaican.

  • Great movie.And a solid Jamaican accent.:)

  • The old lady is lois kelly miller and she is Jamaican. That accent is legit. Irie was a common term way back when but these days even rastafarians don't use it much.

  • Malik Yobba of New York Undercover does the best Jamaican accent of all the US black actors I have heard.

  • It's not bad, you can tell he was coached by a much older Jamaican though. He sounds like my great grandparents lol. People forget that not all Jamaicans sound the same.

  • @Danaetp if deliberate though that would make sense, after all death would talk an old version, to an old woman,

that said probably not deliberate but hey

  • Ya mon, we gwan kill us some raatid babalon gnatzees, seen? An de ya gwan bring me dem scalps an ting

    One love basterds!

Would be one hell of a movie.

  • Horrrrrrrrrrrrrrible!!!

  • So sexy on him! MMMM

  • Be irie mon..;)

  • that jamaican horrible

  • Lovely lady! Lovely accent! Could someone give the script for this part?

  • all i hear is accents that have all gone wrong. the old woman is the only one with a decent attempt

  • That was pretty intense, lol

  • Makes no sense 'cos he could've easily speak to her in plain American English. Everyt'ing gon' be irie???....

  • cereal box recording

  • why are you record the internet.....

  • He's really good it's just really weird hearing him speak that way though.

  • lol

  • there are white jamaicans yakno

  • Comment removed

  • meh. brads okay. as a child of jamaican parents, he only says some things really badly. for a white guy, he's good. :D

  • wtf??

    lol

  • its actually not that bad .. sum jamaicans sorta have a accent like this .. its like the states different parts have a bit of change it accent ..

  • I was so impressed with Brad's Jamaican accent...it took me by surprise when he bust out with it in the hospital and he worked IT and he acted well while doing it w/o sounding forced. I don't know why people say he did a bad job. That is not an easy accent to imitate especially if you have not been around those from the Islands.

  • Whatever he says ain't worse quality than this cunt video. Fuck off.

  • THAT WAS FUCKING EMBARRASSING -__-

  • it wasnt so bad; americans dont do accents well. he did better than most.

  • what movie is this from ?

  • @behrooz1989 Meet Joe Black. I great movie... You should check it out.

  • EPIC Fail bastard

  • LMFAO!!!!wat the hell is brad sayin cause that aint patwa

  • lol, this is so funny, good job Pitt

  • AHAHAHAhahAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAH!!!!!

  • ahahahaha "raaaaahtid." "everthin gone be irie." hhahahahaha! joke!

  • @Panamorena, it is patois you dummy,its a dialect.

  • terrible...but funny

  • bwaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh...if ah laf' ah DEAD inna yah tideh!!! :D

  • He's not speaking Patois, just for the record. It's ENGLISH with a Jamaican accent. Albeit a very bad accent.

  • decent effort, definitely agree he said irie way too much, but I'd say the words aren't too horrible for hollywood, but the thing that really got me is that it sounds way too much like an Irish accent because he's going too high pitched with the accent, if he went deeper maybe it would pass IMO

  • @scienceofstoke

I've heard that the Jamaican accent is heavily based off of the Irish and Scottish accents, so that's probably the reason why

  • @gerryono yeah I found that out recently, but I guess it makes sense-you ever hear the flogging molly song tobacco island? yeah irish were slaves in the caribbean, mostly barbados I think but yeah, from what I hear its a creole language from irish/scottish, english, and french which is crazy to me cuz I used to be sort of semi fluent in french and dabbled in both scottish and irish so now that I'm learning patois I really see the influences

  • I agree - It's a very good effort, a sort of generic West Indian. It's a damn sight better than I can do, and I've got quite a few Jamaican friends.

  • first off this aint patois it's just a basic jamaican accent. he pretty good at it. except he say Irie too much

  • The director should have found a Jamaican to write the lines properly. "I on holiday"? What's that?? Jamaicans say "Mi deh pon holiday". And what's with the "irie" stuff? Sounds like some American wrote these lines and didn't check with someone who really speaks Patois.

  • @ericjungleboy Though people may not say "I on holiday"...no one outside of Jamaica would have understood him if he said "Mi deh pon holiday"

  • oh gosh. What jamaican person uses Irie in their daily life? Damn stereotypes

  • @JamaicanBarbieGal Why couldn't the director ask a Jamaican to set the lines straight? Seriously. And who says "I on holiday?"

  • @ericjungleboy I guess they thought they knew how Jamaicans sound. I've come to realize that a non jamaican can never do a jamaican accent justice.

  • @JamaicanBarbieGal Well, actually, that's not quite true, cause I can :) But otherwise I would agree with you. I've never met another American who could speak Jamaican unless they were living there for years upon years and married to a Yardie (a nuh dat mek mi cyan dweet; mi neva married to nobaddy).

  • @ericjungleboy Well maybe u get the words right but does the accent so like other jamaicans

  • @JamaicanBarbieGal I think so yes. I think the accent is not too hard. But sometimes I mess something up, cause I'm an American still. I have 3 songs I recorded in full Patois. When I upload them on youtube, I'll let you know, and you can tell me what you think.

  • @ericjungleboy Alright no problem

  • @ericjungleboy

"I on holiday" sound like he trini, lol. him shoulda seh "mi deh pan holiday" :-)

  • @JamaicanBarbieGal

Why everything gotta be stereotype? I use "Irie", not in that manner but its still a Jamaican slang. If he said "yeah mahn", "bombolcawt" or any other slang it will be the same thing so if u call that stereotyping then i guess all actors stereotype...

  • @memories101ful No iys a stereotype becuz they assume most jamaicans use the word irie in their everyday life which isnt true. Saying a jamaican swear word wouldnt be a stereotype cuz most jamaicans use them daily, thought not all

  • what a fucking idiot, he sounds so fake and corny... like true jamacians would say... BLUEFOOT!!! lol

  • @ng1st

its just acting dude chill... they would get a real Jamaican if they could but its only a 2 minute skit, what would be the point?

  • somewhere on wiki said this was Guyanese patois. The lady definitely sounds it.

  • Meeda run weh di bwai!! lol

  • it hurts me to hear that/

I cringe so deep that I cant even explain it.

I wish they got me to coach him.

Its not difficult. He didnt even say much so he should have got that down.

  • dwbcl...this is funny how he tries ...watching it on tele ryt now n couldn't stop laughing...why the hell wud they put that in...

  • I did not find this funny at all. My whole family and I have Jamaican accents and I did not even smirk one bit. This is neither offensive or even remotely funny for me; you failed Mr Pitt.

  • @iSP1TF1R3i

If he failed then every other actor who tried to pull of a Jamaican accent failed as well.... Gi di man ah break, chuh

  • 1:20 "raaaaaahtid, obeah eeevil. i not eevil,woman" JOOOOOOOOOOOOKEZ

    ''no man i on 'holiday''

  • WTF!!!

I would freak out if he talked to me like that!!

  • I cant believe they had him say "raatid"

  • Not quite there BUT big credit to him! he went old school like he was coached by a real country jamaican unlike some of the younger actors who only know some of the what i call "hollywood jamaican slangs" like yeah mon, This is the best i have seen in hollywood so far and unless you live around us it prob wont get better than this...

  • @memories101ful I never heard anyone say "irie" that much unless they were a roots reggae singer on stage at a festival in the USA. Who in Jamaica does that? No one that I've heard.

  • @ericjungleboy

true but thats why i said he went way back.... "irie" is an older slang (not sure how old you are, lol). Still regardless of who uses the term he did wayyyyyy better than anyone I have heard who is non Jamaican acting a scene as a Jamaican....

  • Comment removed

  • Truth is people want to feel like they have something special so they'll cut down an actor. But speaking a language or a patois like a native speaker isn't impossible. I would give Brad a 7/10 for this scene.

  • he is obea dun out holywood!

  • Im Jamaican and to be honest...he did a better job than Denzel in the mighty Quinn, Taye diggs in Stella Gettin Her Grove Back...and all those brothers from Cool runnings. He sounds like he was instructed by an old school Jamaican. These other black actors just jump into roles with westindian accents saying 'hey mon' and it's all good. No it's not. It's demeaning and elitist of you to not take the time! Mr.Diggs...Mr.Washington.

  • @afriqueofnature i you rite he got it locked down

  • @afriqueofnature

Absolutely right, and I happen to know for a fact that Lois Kelly (who is the actress in the scene with him) coached him for the scene and she is a very respected actress in Jamaica. You couldn't be more correct in your opinion and those are the exact examples I would have brought forth as well. Brad Pitt did the single best representation (As a non Jamaican) of our accent that I have seen to date over Denzel and Taye Diggs anyday.

  • lololol...i mean... it wasn't 100% perfect but he handled it very well.

"By the way, could someone plz tell me the name of this movie?" and in Jamaica we would say..... "but a weh da movie yah name?"

  • Meet Joe Black

  • @L3L1O Thank you!

  • Brads pulls it off, big up Brad Pitt each and everytime! lol

  • It is a fine scene, well delivered and I can only wish that those armchair critics dissing Brad, could be heard demonstrating their incredibly better patois - then we'd probably have something to really laugh at!

  • why's everybody focusing on Brad's bad patois? None of those actors got it right! ha! frankly it was a very touching scene -- he conveys so much with his eyes...

  • HORRIBLE....lmao

its NOT patois...its his attempt to speak it.. if it was..Believe me...non west indians would not be able to understand him

  • The accent was extremely well delivered

  • that was disgusting.

  • this is patois he ses 'gwarn it be irie'

  • ahahahahaha

  • nope it's Patois... he says it right away. You're bad...

  • Actually... its not.. im 100% jamaican (even born There). been speaking it my whole life and i can assure you its not

  • I believe you.. but then what is irie? i've looked that up and it is a word in Patois. Plus he says wha gwan... I don't know how it's now...?

  • YOU ARE NOT MISINFORMED. @crticallyinsane. the "IRIE" is in fact jamaican, and it is widely used in jamaica, but not all jamaicans use it so not many will know of it. but more know it that those who do not. but 'IRIE" mean "OK. COOL, OR ALRIGHT"

  • I wouldn't say it is proper English. It is more colloquial than Standard Jamaican English, though pretty close. But, yes, if it was straight up Patois most of these commenters wouldn't understand it.

Anyways, he accent is terrible. LOL

  • 4 realz his accent is so faux, but i thought he did pretty good, it is so annoying when people say irie, we don't even use that slang that often any more, it meant cool, but now it is just not cool, it's like from the 70's

  • @sweetsassysashy maybe they used irie because he was talking to an older woman?? i'm not jamacian but i have heard the accent a lot and thought he did a good job better than some of the other actors i have came across.

  • every ting gwan be irie

  • Geez, I'm sorry to say he did a lousy job. You can't even call this "patois". It would be more accurate to say he did a bad Jamaican accent. But no worse than Wyclef Jean when he tries to do a Jamaican accent.

  • he sounds irish lol

  • I actually thought this was very funny, whether the intent being funny or not, it gave me a laugh and I have more adoration for Brad Pitt now.

  • lol his faux accent hurt me every time i watch this movie.... oh god, just shut up brad, please?

  • what movie is this

  • Meet Joe Black

  • i dnt even believe dat hes talkin patois

  • My mom's Jamaican, and I've grown up with her speaking patois every day. But even I better than to go down there trying to speak patois. It just doesn't work like that. You can't learn it from a teacher like French or Spanish. You just have to know it. I don't think Brad Pitt or the script writer knows that.

  • right a language you cant learn, you can only know it. lol.

  • My mother is Mexican and I have the same thing. I speak Spanish fluently but can't do the slang thing even if I tried. My mother taught me Spanish and although I can speak it fine amongst relatives, I can't get my head around speaking the same way as my younger cousins... You indeed just have to know it.

  • In my case 'knowing it' is more growing up with it than studying it.

  • Awesome quality. Good things youtube has got hq.

  • Qualitiy is to good.

  • i think he's trying to do the accent of the rastafarians back in the 70's era.......

dont think its accurate for the movie..

sounds better than other ppl i hear trying to do the accent

  • i mean he did pretty good considering..... you know

  • Brad's Jamaican accent is so awful it's embarrassing.

  • @undella101

You have no idea what you're talking about if you think this is bad for hollywood.

  • @undella101 You gotta keep in mind...HE IS A WHITE BOY. In light of that he did a pretty good job with some of the phrases. lol

  • wat tis dis bloodclot bwoy? him deserve a box ya know

  • what type fuckery him a chat.. eh... wat Jamaican you know sound so....

  • everythin gone be irie??? jamaicans don't talk like that

  • no, they'd say "ebryting gon be irie"

  • to-may-to / to-maw-to... its still a fruit... we do not use the word irie..not post bob marley anyway that era is over

  • b3hr057 - In snatch he plays a pikey (or pikie) as in a traveler, or in a more derogatory sense, a knacker. I suggest you watch it with subtitles next time, not that you'll understand anyway

  • Comment removed

  • Brad Pitt is a hell of a good accent actor, and maybe he isn't as good as a native speaker and the script writer put some shit in there that isn't exactly correct but I've seen him do a lot of different accents (Like his "parkie" in "Snatch") and I doubt many non-native Jamaicans could do better.

  • oh. someone said it's not even Jamaican. It's Afrikaans! Well, whatever it is, I don't know but that is a good point, don't criticize that he doesn't sound like anyone you know if maybe he wasn't even trying to sound like YOUR neighbors!!

  • video sucks

  • this would be good if i could see the vid. its so crappy quality.

  • who the hell are these so-called jamaicans saying we don't talk like that? that lady sounds jamaican to me (although the audio is poor); even patois has different dialects & accents to it; 'rhaatid' a definite jamaican word

  • wat d blood claat was dat? everyting gwaa be irie? no in jamaica says irie anymore. fuckery dat! mi glad him a try tho..go brad!

  • so if i wanted to visit Jamaica (which I do so bad!) would it not be a good idea to try to learn to speak Patois? I love the language and want to learn, but if I'ma get in trouble.....then uhhh, maybe I shouldn't.... ( :

oh, and doesn't I Wayne say "irie and merry" in his song Life Seeds? when did he put that song out?

  • lol....patois isn't something that you learm..I don't know how to explain it .....one things for sure... you won't get in trouble but you will be made fun of for sure..

  • gotcha! i'll just learn for an understanding when I visit, and speak my Texan English.....even though that's no fun! ) :

  • JC patrois isnt really proper english.. its more like slang. in the US, would you killll yourself to speak american slang? u might. but bear in mind, there's a time and place for it. Same with patrois

  • I totally understand what you're talking about..I'm rfom canada.. and I am a portuguese jamaican and what youre saying makes total sense...becasue back in jamaica..just like if you were to talk slang ..you would be in trouble..

  • hahahhahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahhaha

    that sound fool fool..

    everyting gwaaa? be irie.

him pull it off kinda. if it rastafarian... the accent come off good but if its casual patois, it sound weird

  • it's funny, jamaica is like england, depending on what part u go, the english accent is different, so i think based on my experience i would say he sounds like dead yard rum drinking jamaican...Brad Pitt is a pro, so he would get speech coaching for this scene...this is the best try i have ever heard from someone with no caribbean roots...he sounds arite to print to film

  • Now listen ya'll I put this up because it made me laugh hard....i'm not Jamaican so I can't really tell the difference but I think it's hilarious seeing Brad pitt trying to talk in Patois, now i must say his accent here sounds the same in Benjamin Button...which just means he can create an accent..but he looks like an idiot trying.....AGREE?????

    ENjoy

  • i agree with ednuhgood comment...I am Jamaican and nuhbaddi mi know chat so...!!!

  • you can say what you want.. that shiit was tigtt comin from B-rad....

  • lmao

  • jamaican english, rastafarian english and jamiacan patois are totally different

  • you fucking mooks, that's neither patois nor any other english dialect. that's afrikaans.

  • he sounds more like a leprican

  • k.. dat not wat leprican sound lik

  • thats not jamaican patois...if anything, brad pitt is dabbling in rastafarian english

  • That women is Guyanese not jamaican. jamaicans don't speak like that.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA That was funny!

  • hahahahahaha omg not a jamacain accent...inredible how much of a jamican accent it is not...god cant believe, funniest thing ever. ha...ha

  • AHHH,LOL,JAFAKIN,LOL

  • he sounds more like miss cleo, not jamaican

  • love that scene so much truth spoken and well spoken!

  • aahahahhaahahahahahah they both just gaving him that look.

  • He sound like a leperchan It should have sounded more like Guan wit di docta. The rest is unclear on that line.

  • That fool sound

  • i had to close ma eyes at this part, i was so embarassed fuh him.

hahaha, its def. not a jamaican accent.

  • me too! I was like what are they saying! Rahtid? Obeha? It just sounds like he is saying phrases thought to be jamaican!

  • 1:23 raaahtid! he almost had it lmao

  • You waitin' ere to take us--like is a bus driver to dere?

No mon I ere on oliday...

    Hm some place you pick.....

    I love this scene!

  • It's a Caribbean accent but definitely not patois, it's too clean. We Jamaicans dont talk like that. If you're Jamaican you'd say it's probably Barbadian or Trinidardian.... or some other Caribbean Island.

  • trinis talk nutting like dat boi.

  • its not trini

  • i was replying to somebody else's comment who said how he is talkin like a trini.
