He is one of four double laureates, but remember with the other 3 they won prizes in the sciences, only one of Pauling's prizes was in chemistry, the other was the Peace Prize, which is not nearly as hard to win as the others. The other five prizes: Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, and Economics are chosen by an academic panel of experts in Sweden, whereas a committee of politicians in Norway choose the Peace Prize winner. This makes the Peace Prize much more political in nature.

Linus Pauling was one of the inspirational figure of all time. As many others I appreciate his effort and contribution of modern chemistry among other fields.

He was the only person who won two "unshared" Nobel Prizes. I believe there were others who the Nobel Prize twice but they had to share it with other recipients?
