- i have a question , did you know how to pre-listen samples/pads/sounds from mashine on the fly in headphones before turn it on on air,- some ideas , did i need special soundcard or Komlete Audio 6 is enough ? or may be NI traktor 10 ?
Personally i would always buy the krk´s again, they are quite good for what you pay and i love the style. Also Genelecs are pretty cool, this is what we use at work.
does this record into abelton. what i mean is you've loaded stuff up in abelton to play this. but this version that you play. does it get recorded in the linear style as a track?
Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong
No Problem, i only use Maschine as a plugin in Ableton and use the Sequencer of Maschine for Drums and FX, thats pretty much it and yeah dont forget to add some spicy fx on top ;)
hey im trying to get the same setup as you how can i connect it to my pc and laptop? usb? i know its a retarded question but i need something that will allow me to connect these 2 and a midi keyboard as well. im custom building my pc so should i make more usb slots or just get an external interface? thanks
because the dont ;) Maschine is a world class beatbox and the APC40 is awesome when it comes to control Ableton Live 8, where my plugins are and also a lot of FX is going on. The combo is just kick ass.
hey i am thinking about getting some new monitors i create house and progrersive house would the rokits 8 be ok for a small room or would i want like yamhas or makies?
For a small room you can also get the Rokit 5, i own them for more then 1,5 year and thy still amaze me, especially when you pair them with the killer 10 inch sub ;)
I would say that depends on what you want to achieve. If you are working sample based then go for the APC40 but if you want to make a beat on the fly then take a closer look at machine. You could also sell you scratch and get both ;)
Yes but for me the rokits have to much bass it is not as flat frequency as the genelec or the mackie mr5 but I am not saying that the rokits are bad just for my taste I preferred the genelecs
@hilato genelecs are beautiful speakers, but as my music tech teacher pointed out to me was that they sound just too good! so no matter what you put through them it almost immediately sounds good so i would prefer a mediocre set of speakers and work at getting the sound to sound amazing on them then move it onto a set of genelecs. not that i could afford genelecs ;)
@Pyromancer55 Yes but like I said the rokits are good monitors but they move towards the low frequencies side, and the genelecs don't have those problem they are flat frequencies, so you hear all the mistakes on your tracks, its like the Mackie MR5 they are kind of like the Genelecs but they tend to go on the high frequencies, so as to my preference the genelecs for me are the most flat frequencies monitors in the business. @hilato i personally need to start looking at loads of monitors and things. i've only been making music for a little while and still need to do a lot of stuff on the tech side! you obviously know a lot more about the speakers than i do. i'm sorta trying to pick it all up and it will soon come ;) but i like your ideas!
@Pyromancer55 It is never to late to start, especially when your young, I started with reason 1.0 the first reason, then acid, then logic, and now I am stuck with ableton live. I at first was in your spot, I would make a track and it would sound horrible with my stereo, then I started to learn on my own about sound, frequencies, as of now I am trying to learn about mastering which is a whole new world, beside producing. But tutorials and lots of time behind the computer.
@hilato I've been writing now for a couple of years now but i've only really started to make music that i'm happy with recently! but i need to just get myself a ministudio where i can write a lot easier and things. i'm running off ableton live, and have done for a while. i'm happy with it but i'm ready to move onto some other programs for a new experience! maybe using ableton to make a couple of things up. but i don't particularly need it anymore.
are the APC's mainly for live performances or are they useful for recording ? other than just recording jams...I've got a Maschine, and I wan to make sure I'm not missing out on somethings tha's really useful...can Maschine's APC mode do everything that an APC does ?
Your using a ride cymbal as a hat... ride cymbals are only effective when dropped in triple time over a 150bmp tempo...... they are mean't to add drive. It is far to prominent in the mix.
The clacky percussion is very annoying. The 303 lead is nice.
sick! btw, are those rokit 5 speakers that you have there? i was thinking of getting a pair of those, would you recommend it? i'm interested in making this kind of music too.
Good Jam but stupid video title. Maschine and APC are completely different. Furthermore, while controlling clips in Ableton, we can't really see how much you actually did or didn't affect the music. An Ableton clip can be an entrire song while with Maschine you would build the song live, note by note.
kannst du mir evtl sagen welche effecte du genommen hast grooven nämlich ordentlich
when i saw live / kore / reaktor, the controllers krk monitors... i really expected something, my girlfriend does better with my mums keyboard and iam not joking man
I love the vocal samples...where did you get them? Is it a specific vocalist's release or just stuff you've sampled from other songs? Either way, I like the energy you're building in this demo...a little slow for my taste, but still very well mixed!
the vocal sample is from an artists called Mina Fedora, which i found on myspace. She really has a beautifull voice and yes it is too slow, should do the next track while im sober ;)
they are both great tools. If you like more a dj like approach to start samples and want to get more control over Ableton - the APC40 is fine. If you want produce beatz fast and want complete control over your music, like changing sequences on the fly - then get maschine. i personally prefer Maschine but the combination of both is pretty sweet ;)
i sampled some drums from maschine and used them as clips in Ableton, i do pretty much all of my drum works with maschine as im really used to the mpc style sequencing, as a long time MPC User. I use the APC40 mostly as the center of my setup but only to plug maschine into ableton and add some more fx to maschine on the fly.
for the videos i record them directyl with the video with quicktime pro on a mac. But in Ableton you can record a jam just by clicking the record button and then record midi and audio or send midi to audio tracks.
sorry for all my questions but when i record in ableton it doesn't record the things i play on my maschine. only when i record it in maschine. i don't understand how u can play live en record it, i hope u can help me.
hey now i understand what you mean. You have to rout the track which contains maschine to an audio track in ableton and then record the stuff from maschine as audio for now.
Ok lets say you have maschine on channel 3 (track 3), now create an empty audio track on channel 4 (track 4), then in channel 3 at the io panel, where it says "Audio to" you select channel 4 which is our empty audio track. Now arm channel 4 press record and jam along.
hey bro,got a ques for ya. what can the apc40 do for me that I cant already do with my mpk49? i can already scroll up & down, side to side, and so on. Is it really worth the cash, and why? Thanks, cuz after buying the NI Maschine, Im strapped for cash.
the difference to your mpk49 is mainly the visual feedback you get while turning the knobs and of course the direct access to the clip matrix. But if your fine with your MPK49 i wouldnt upgrade. Also Maschine is still way better ;)
yeah bwoy! This video is heavy, well done. I am def getting me a apc40 after this, looks wicked for live performance then gunna stick a micron in the mix also for some extra fun
Curious as to what was doing what. All the beats are on Maschine and then being manipulated in LIVE by the APC? Or is the MAschine doing its own thing?
It seems you're already very comfortable with the APC40. Looks like a must if you're running Ableton Live. Controllers like Maschine's and the APC40 are the future.
Now if you only could make dope Hip Hop beats. lol

Hey Bud,
Ableton, maschine, and softsynts are running all on the same computer ?
angelotax 2 years ago
Yep, and its not a problem, i hit around 40 % CPU on an average, and i only use a core2duo with 2,4 GHz, so there should be no problems.

he man, nice work.
can u tell me how u record your live jam in ableton live?
i dunt understand that. thanks
bye
hetakie 2 years ago
Hey hetakie,
for the videos i record them directyl with the video with quicktime pro on a mac. But in Ableton you can record a jam just by clicking the record button and then record midi and audio or send midi to audio tracks.

sorry for all my questions but when i record in ableton it doesn't record the things i play on my maschine. only when i record it in maschine. i don't understand how u can play live en record it, i hope u can help me.
thanks
hetakie 2 years ago
hey now i understand what you mean. You have to rout the track which contains maschine to an audio track in ableton and then record the stuff from maschine as audio for now.
SuicideServer 2 years ago
he, my last question is how do u rout maschine to an audio track? (i'm new with ableton) and do you know if this also works in logic pro 8?
thanks a lot for helping.
cheers
hetakie 2 years ago
Ok lets say you have maschine on channel 3 (track 3), now create an empty audio track on channel 4 (track 4), then in channel 3 at the io panel, where it says "Audio to" you select channel 4 which is our empty audio track. Now arm channel 4 press record and jam along.

hey bro,got a ques for ya. what can the apc40 do for me that I cant already do with my mpk49? i can already scroll up & down, side to side, and so on. Is it really worth the cash, and why? Thanks, cuz after buying the NI Maschine, Im strapped for cash.
pace033 2 years ago
Hey pace,
the difference to your mpk49 is mainly the visual feedback you get while turning the knobs and of course the direct access to the clip matrix. But if your fine with your MPK49 i wouldnt upgrade. Also Maschine is still way better ;)

Curious as to what was doing what. All the beats are on Maschine and then being manipulated in LIVE by the APC? Or is the MAschine doing its own thing?
Thanks Like the track!
metaldog01 2 years ago
Hey Dog,
the bassdrum, hihats and snares are from Abletons Drummachines, Percussions and Ride is from Maschine and the 303 is ABL2 from Audiorealism.

It seems you're already very comfortable with the APC40. Looks like a must if you're running Ableton Live. Controllers like Maschine's and the APC40 are the future.
Now if you only could make dope Hip Hop beats. lol
Lotuz2007 2 years ago
I agree, they are the future. On the other hand, I say KEEP IT ACID.
pace033 2 years ago
Oh yes, im already possesed by the 303 for 15 years now and i still love it ;)
