I'm in jersey. Only way i know of is to buy it at my local woodcarving school. No other way unless by mail, which i'm not sue i'm fond of with all the ebayers out there. How can i get your DVD and bark and what is the cost sir? I found myself loving to carve cotton wood whimsical houses. I haven't gone back to basswood yet and i'm 4 carvings into cotton wood. I've only been carving for a year now...
Hi Mike. I don't like the cottonwood I see on ebay, most of it is not of the quality I carve in. I sold so much bark so fast that I had to take the bark for sale page down.
I still have a couple of blanks I can mail out. Hopefully I'll get some more good stuff this spring/summer. But that is 5 months away.
Cottonwood bark is the only bark I know of that is dense enough to carve on. It has a really nice grain to it and looks like a hard wood when it is finished. I have no idea of what kind of trees or bark you have in Alabama. Tennesee red cedear makes for a nice carving wood. Its a bit harder than the cottonwood bark, but may be obtainable in your area.
Susan, sorry I had'nt noticed your comment till now. I do mail out a considerable amount of the cottonwood bark. I'm coming to the end of what I'll be sending. As I need to keep myself going.
Here in Montana we can get permits to cut down dead trees. But that is only if the tree is on State Land or Federal Land. Otherwise we have to get the ok from the land owner. Montana is a vastly unpopulated state. Lots of unpopulated forests.
Ron....are you packing the bark out by the arm full? You might what to consider making or modifying a deer/game cart. A two wheeled cart that would enable you make fewer round trips, plus pack your gear saving on the fatigue of yourself. I do a fair amount of deer & bear hunting in the Adirondacks of Northern New York. I found several years ago what a blessing using a two wheeled cart makes. Makes the job quicker and easier weather your a half mile or 5 or 6 miles from the road. Good luck.
abclandscaping, yes I do have a way to wheel out my bark. Depends on where I am in the mts. Sometimes I have a very steep mountain side to climb and can't use a game cart. Thanks for the comment!
