I played Carmen with the national German Schleswig-Holstein Orchestra and they were exactly like you in this video;

they always talking to me (because I'm french)about how to play like a french musician.

To play as a french musician (for exemple Georges' Bizet song), you have to be a little proud, not too much but you have to feel the rythmics as a toreador.
