My 2 year old sisters had the choice between the hobbit (1977) and My Little pony (2011). They chose the hobbit. I have never been more proud in my life.
can you tell me where i can get this sound track? or download it? i have loved this movie ever since i was a kid and just love listening to these songs and would really like um! :D
As a youngster, I had a record with the story from the Hobbit that featured the voices and sound effects from the movie. I'm looking for a copy of that. Anyone know where I can find one? Apparently, it's rarer than these songs!
This guy singing was also in a folk group call the Limelighters, I remember that voice anywhere. My parents gave us that record when I was a kid and I loved it...as uncool as that might be now...
@raygellenbeck Bleagh, don't listen to anyone who'd say it's "uncool", 'cause chances are they're some selfish dolt obsessed with fitting into a crowd that would never really accept them.
Ah man, just listening to these songs is making me get all misty-eyed. This movie was probably one of the sole biggest influences on me as a small child. I used to borrow it from the local library every chance I got and watch it endlessly. If it wasn't for this, I never would have gotten into Tolkien or fantasy in general. It may be rather late, but thank you for uploading these.
@Figmentation I had the EXACT same experience. I only wanted to see the LOTR movies because I had rented the Hobbit movie and book from the library. Excellent film. Excellent book
@N00bDyke I can agree with that since I saw this film at a very young age. Just listening to Gollum utter riddles to Bilbo Baggins freaked me out from that film.
@batdak I don't know if it is available in digital form. But just use a quality cassette player to input in computer for stereo mix and record it. Nostalgic song!
I think it's a shame that south park lemmiwinks had to bring you guys here. This was one of my favoirte movies when I was little and I still love it. (I'm still angry at WB tho for messing with it when they put it to dvd)
I remember the week's TV Guide paperback *any of you know that? and a section about this adaptation in 1977. Damn, I had read The Hobbit a few months earlier. I should've kept that issue (damn) and I was so impressed with the art, the photo shown was of, I think, Bilbo hanging on to one of the Eagles of the West's leg (they're actually requested by the Valar in the Undying Lands to rescue Frodo and Sam)
my friend who loved this movie and south park brought me here. I can't imagine how much funnier it was to already know this song to then see it on south park.
@TruthfulPaper People thought I was stupid saying the Lemmiwinks song was making fun of this. Well I'm glad that I'm not alone in the universe! *Brofist*
Thank you thank you thank you for posting this! This started my love of the fantastic of playing in the yard with my brothers and cousins and my love of reading. This is so nostalgic. There is nothing now that can measure up to the simplistic and complex beauty of JRR Tolkien. Thank you.
When I was like...8 or 9, I would watch this movie with my brothers, because I was always afraid of watching it by myself when Gollum came on :P but the music in it is just brilliant, and in my teen years I have come to love this song soo much, and have definitely taken its message to heart.
There's a subtle irony that the singer speaks poorly of the "man who's a dreamer and thinks of a world that is just make believe" and yet in order to have these books we needed a man did exactly that.
@Kross2099 I think the singer is more referring to those who don't go out and experience life and rather sit in all day and dream of it. All great writers have struggled and gone through their own "greatest adventure". What makes a great writer is someone who has been through hardships and has enough insight on it now to take from the struggle and tell others about it. J.R.R Tolkien served in WW1 and it probably helped him a lot with the themes in his writing.
That is an early design for Bilbo that the Rankin-Bass animators came up with. When they actually got around to making the movie, they realized how ugly it was and changed it. However, that design somehow managed to find itself into promotional artwork (this record cover, posters, etc.) I had a poster for the movie in my bedroom when I was very young (my mother put it there) using this design.
Wonderful. Didn't even know this score was available or existed at all. Thanks ever so much. A great 'ol school' animated rendition (however stylized) of this story with some great character portrayals - specially Gollum. Found it again luckily enough on DVD a few years ago. Great.
has anyone downloaded this soundtrack to an itunes yet i cant get it from the site to down load for some reason i want the full soundtrack please help me :D
Awesome song, i loved this movie since i was a kid and introduced me to Tolkein and i read the books when i was 12 and enjoyed the other animated LOTR movies but now the live-action LOTR movies blew me away and the PJ directed Hobbit movie will rule.
I have this double album with the poster and the irons still in the box it came in. I've been looking for this on cd for years. Can all this be found in MP3 format possibly-with the songs/dialogue just like this set? It's the entire film on records.
Bilbo looks like a Mister Toad or the toad fellow from the Drak Pack. He also looks like one of those goblins. One wonder Treebeard and the orc slaver though the hobbits were.

@giroroizmylove I bought this record on ebay for like 5 bucks. They don't sell it cd or tape or anything. but i got it on record, and transfered it to my ipod.
The song is more than just beautiful and epic. It has a good and just moral that engraves itself into our minds, telling us to live. Some people actually take that lesson to heart.
In a way, this song in it's own small part has changed the world.
look, I love this movie as much as anybody, but come on, man. who, beyond the hundred or so people who have seen it, has possibly heard the song for it to have "changed the world"???
Thumbs up if cold hard nostalgia brought you here.
