I swear, eventually all other marvel characters will be about to die and just then.... Phoenix will come back with all their lost friends (Thor, Nightcrawler, Human Torch) to help.
My favorite character is Thor. We will miss him greatly..... :(
Can someone explain how Odin's Brother "Cul" relates to the serpent? In Norse myth, the Midgard Serpent "Jormungandr" and "Fenris" and "Hela" ... are Loki's children. Is the world serpent being considered Odin's brother in Marvel now? Are Jormungandr and Cul, essentially the same being in this Fear Itself story arc?
I liked very much the fight, buti think it would be even better if they used some magic attacks, like the godblast and some storms, and the serpent should've used magic too, but still a good battle, sadly thor died, well atleast he did what he had to do before dying, right? =/
Lame event and lame fight. Iron Man spends all that time making weapons and all we see is posturing on a few pages with them. Thor was never even shown being seriously injured and so it appears like he just dropped out of the air after the fight. Journey into Mystery was the only good thing about this event. The rest turned out to be pointless. At least we get a Defenders book out of this. I don't trust Fraction to write it though.
@Corey1873 yeah all this hype and build-up for such a tremendous let-down, anti-climactic ending. that's twice fraction's had thor collapse unduly (the first was his fight w/ nul and angrir). at least he actually got hit a few times the first fight tho; looked like he was barely scratched this fight. matt fraction's trying hard to be grouped with jeph loeb and if he continues to ignore continuity i'm sure he'll succeed. thor's taken and given much much worse and walked away. get it right
@boywonder228 He's worse than Loeb in my book. Loeb only had a couple big fails which didn't effect the arc overall. Jeph constantly had some good action going on as well. Fraction failed in ways that ruined the entire storyline.
@Corey1873 whenever i mention loeb i'm mainly referring to his responsibility in the utter destruction of the ultimate universe...particularly that of "ultimates."
@boywonder228 I agree it could have been portrayed better and seems odd that Thor dies ... after basically just kicking ass. It isn't very apparent that Thor suffered anything even close to a fatal wound. Yet it was the Serpent's venom that most likely did him in. The legend states; Thor would kill the Serpent in the final days, but in the aftermath ... Thor will succumb to the Serpent's venom. Thor will take 9 steps and then collapse.
@CrucibleBlack13 thanks. that does ease my frustration a bit, making his death somewhat more plausible. i wanna explain his collapse after the hulk and thing fight as being largely caused by that blow he took from the serpent, but i know that wasn't the writer's intent and i just can't convince myself to spin it that way lol. so i'll go on chalking it all up to bad writing.
@bluemonster50 yeah. saw the avengers preview and the hammer lands right by cap and the impact knocks him back. i figured he was gonna pick it up, especially since they took his shield away. he's held it before.
@staley1981 I guess if Fractions ego was telling him to kill Marvels main money maker then yeah lol. But seriously your right. At least it was a skyfather.
@Fernando072295 I think there is a war of egos going on at Marvel right now. Loeb, Fraction, Pak, and Bendis just don't want to be outdone by each other. However, as you pointed out, Thor took down a Skyfather. We all know what happened the last time Hulk took on a Skyfather. That should some consolation. ;)
@Naturalhit They do it to get new readers. The problem is that it actually works. I mean look at the dc relaunch it made more money then ever. Its not the renumbering that annoys me its the whole killing the character thing. Its not necessary at all.
I bet no one is upset thor is dead...I give him 6 months before he comes back.
Seriously it pisses me off fraction randomly killed 2 characters off I mean wtf is the point? There both gonna come back before the next "big event that will change marvel forever"...This is why I don't pick up events
But it was a pretty good fight I will admit but thats the only credit I will give fraction are the action scenes but I say the artist deserves more credit. The art gets 5 stars.
@codenamecrimsonwind They always come back. Trust me. There explanation for bringing back steve rogers after he was shot was time travel...Those that even make sense? Marvel doesn't care and neither does dc. They will just bring them back because they make money that its been done many times over by marvel and dc. Thor is iconic he wont stay dead. I give him 6 months-1 year before he comes back. 3 years at the most.
@Trigonzilla true but i hope that they make it interesting on how they brought him back from the dead. Or if they don't bring him back have some one to take his place like thunderstrike or beta ray bill

This is only his second death so....no. He'll be back.....probably in a year or two.
I'm kind of annoyed though. He'd only just recently started being an Avenger again.
