Sadly, we probably won't see gigabit as a standard connection in the US for another 5 years. US providers refuse to upgrade because of cost. Even then, to get true gigabit internet connection you will most likely need to be within less than a mile from your providers primary switch that connects them to the web. Gigabit it pretty quickly becoming the standard for internal networks though.

eg in uk the specs for asdl2+ (the up to 24meg) allow it to be aggregated, so in theory an ISP could offer that - but you'd have to pay to install each phone line, plus subscribe to their aggregate service which'd likely cost more than usual.

can get leased lines, fibre if available up to about 40GB already (uk).
