  • oh sure, I'd research your RNA right here on the spot, without any machines :P also - this is presented to the 10% of intelligent elite with a format meant for other 90%. Good thing you didn't go for infomercial, or i would of laughed even more.

  • Damn, the idea is great. But it's so poorly sold.

PLEASE STOP UNDERESTIMATING MOLECULAR BIOLOGY RESEARCHERS!!

Make it A LOT cheaper and accessible, then we'll discuss how good it'll be for research.

  • Hi QIAGENvideos. Could you leave me your contact. I would like to have more information on your QIAxcel. My email is dung.tx@biomedic.com.vn or dungdirect@gmail.com. Best regards, Dzung.

  • @onroadcowboy Hi Dzung, we have dropped you a line by email. Regards, Marc

  • Low resolution. Look like the result from microfluidic chip at first years of its age. But It's good enough for simple genotyping in gene mapping in plant or in diagnostics.

  • @onroadcowboy The QIAxcel is able to provide you with a resolution of 3-5 bp with up to 500bp fragments, which is actually pretty good.

  • but gels are damn cheap... i'm sure there are applications for this in very sensitive cases, i still don't see this popping up in every high budget lab

  • @8xngc In respect of the price, you also have to calculate the costs for the chemistry with the slab gels as well as the labour time that is greatly reduced with the ready-to-go QIAxcel systems. On top of that, everything is automatically documented and digitalized.

  • genius

  • I've been wondering for a while why there hasn't been a bench-top capillary electrophoresis system developed yet. Here it is!

The one thing they don't talk about, though, is fragment isolation and purification. This looks good for analysis, but not for obtaining fragments for cloning.

  • Manual is boring. The thought it depresses me. Does this do SDS-PAGE as well?

  • This is brilliant. I hate manual gel electrophoresis.

I wonder though, would it be accurate to title the video "Say goodbye to gel electrophoresis"?

I presume the pores of a gel and a positive charge is used to attract DNA-molecules and separate them by size.
