I think it's one of the most fantastic tunes ever. When not even a first class rock band like DT can make it sound more powerful than Elton John's original. Awesome version though. Thumbs up.
This is amazing, when was this recorded? I take it's pretty old for Kevin Moore is still on keyboards, pre-1994 I suppose? Despite the fact John Myung still looks like a kid.
@babybotch HMMMM!!! A very good point, my friend....Guess we'll have to wait and see... Wont be the same without Portnoy, but so far they seem like they're (DT) off to a good start with the new cd...see what the second one brings us, eh?
@AKtifosi While Dream Theater may not be the same, I am confident that since the rest of the band is still comprised of the same phenomenal musicians minus Portnoy, they will persist without much if any musical degradation. I too, though, am quite sad that Dream Theater lost the best possible drummer they could ever have.
So this is the live performance from the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club Bar in London back in '95. You know what guys, I wish Barney Greenway should've sang this song as well aside from the Damage Inc. song he did w/ DT.
Hold up, this is a funny question to you DT and the person who upload this video, I see some similarity 3:24 on The Best of Times main melody. I just realize this when I get home from visiting my ancestor's grave last week!
One excellent tribute to Elton John. John Petrucci and Derek Sherinian are stellar here, and they play off of each other perfectly. Would have loved to see this live.
Not the same version. The audio verson has him singin WAY higher notes everywhere. It's my first time seeing this video, and I was singing the exact ame version as ACOS (which I've been listening to for years), and noticed right off the bat how different it is.
Now I feel better, James LaBrie is just a human being like you and me...
Goddammit! thanks 4 uploading this vid, had been lookin for it for years... where did you git it anyways? Dream Theater once again demonstrating their ability to cover anything, now doing it on Elton john, just amazing!
Just when you think you know EVERY band a new one pops up and kicks the shit out of you. What year did this band form and where the hell are they from??
fucking epic

@danieltpc, that is Derek Sherinian on keys, just like on the recording on "Change of Seasons."

For those grieving Dream Theater, type in, "on the backs of angels dream theater".
Dream Theater is far from gone. Mike Mangini looks like he is a more than capable drummer.
Looks like Portnoy is going to get more of a break than planned. Career suicide.

I saw Elton John a few days ago and Dream Theater are probably my favorite band. It was epic when Elton opened his set with this :)

In the middle of all those #1 singles, Elton tossed off one of Top 10 prog tunes of all time. He could whip up melodies in his sleep back then.

@AKtifosi Dream Theater will roll on and continue to be awesome. Even without the best drummer in the world.

I'd love to hear them cover something like "Rocket Man" or "Bennie and the Jets". But it'll probably never happen...

Pretty much. I think James LaBrie overdubbed his vocals on the ACOS live tracks.. I don't know why as he sounds fine here.
yesrushdt 2 years ago 2
@yesrushdt :
This is certainly NOT the same performance as on the album!
0xym0r0nized 1 year ago
@PaddyLake ; It is the same performance. Listen to the miscue at 1:34 and the same small mistake is present on the album.
