Why do people have to be so ignorant. I'm glad that Carl has become more independent by learning how to write his own. Good for him and i wish the best for Carl. People like jonny need to learn manners and be more respectful of people. People like jonny are a disgrace to the human race.
@liveworkplayvideo Calling a defective/disabled person a retard is way different to calling a dark skinned person a n***er. It is much different. Be a bit informed.
@jonny240494 why do you see the word "ni##er" directed at a person who has dark skin as different from the word "re##rd" directed at a person who has an intellctual disability? Both are pejoratives aimed at particular cultural groups. The "difference" is the n-word has arrived at a certain level of non-acceptance because discrimination based on skin color is unacceptable to most, whereas far too many people still use te r-word to openly discriminate against people with intellectual disabilities.
@jonny240494 Disability is part of humanity. A defective person would be a person who is deliberately cruel or otherwise disciminatory against a person just because they have a disability. I find that behaviour is usually a sign of self-hatred, whereby the non-disabled person has self-esteem issues that they try to deal with by making sure that there is a social hierarchy that puts them above others - like promoting the belief that a person who has a disability is a defective human being.
I'm not saying the guy is stupid but rather this whole video is stupid. Now how many severely disabled or autistic people will be on youtube looking up "self-advocacy"
I'm sure he isn't that mentally retarded to not know how to fill in a cheque.
@jonny240494 there are many people with intellectual disabilities who use YouTube and are involved in self-advocacy. In fact, there's an entire movement called People First that is by and for people with intellectual disabilities and is dedicated to self-advocacy.
You may think filling out a cheque is easy, but a lot of people experience barriers to even having their own bank account!
Informed people don't say "retarded" it is like using the N word to describe a person with dark skin.
Compared to some, he is doing well. He may have difficulties but he is able to adapt and if he is not working already, he will gain useful employment, with any luck. He is almost definitely in the "mild" learning difficulty/ disability range, like most so-called "special" people.
He can be educated and has learnt skills, he is not a vegetable, so this is not a "stupid" exercise. He's not Einstein, but I deal with people little more intelligent all the time in the local council's HR dept.
@jonny240494 You are correct, the person filling out the check is a person who has an intellectual disability. Sorry you find this "stupid." The point is that he has done the hard work of learning how to write his own cheques, and knows what he is going. It is very important that people are able to manage their own affairs. It is not stupid at all.
