LOVE Dragonlance! Raistlin is easily my favorite character out of any and all categories of entertainment. Movie was f*cking horrible. Needs to be redone with graphics like the FF: Advent Children movie. Or Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal. Oh...song is ok too lol

Had no idea there was a DL cartoon/movie! though on reflection, probably best off not knowing, I can't see how it would do justice to the books in the slightest. I can imagine how annyoying they would make the Tanis and Tasslehof characters for one thing. Tanis was already close to be annoying as it was (saving grace being his internal struggle)

2)The captain Balrog and Sauron.

No, Raistlin is strong, but he cant match agaist a dragon or a god, you must remember this, Raistlin can control the dragon Bloodbane but him do that whit the power of the "orb of dragons". Bloodbane was stong but he cant match agains Arcalagon because Arcalagon wasent a normal dragon he was The Dragon, his size was huge "When Arcalagon fell, him destroy an entire mountain" words of the Silmarilion and more, his flame was so powerfull, that can destroy the great ring, words of Gandalf.

Yep, that was exactly what I said, Raistlin cant beat a Dragon in a just battle, but control is other thing, even Arcalagon can be controled by the Orb of Dragons. But, remember control a dragon is isnt easy, that required a lot of mental streng, and if the dragon is more powerfull the your mental energy must overcome that power, so I dont know if Raistlin can control a monster that could destroy a mountain. When I said the thing of against Morgoth was a compairision, nothing more.

Controlling is just another form of power, and as Raistlin controlls the dragon orb, the dragon orb's power is considered as Raistlin's power.. And if Arcalagon destroyed a mountain it doesn't mean that he has a lot of mental strenght, you know, so Raistlin CAN control him.

Yeah but dragons, even magical ones, are still dragons. And Tolkien's magic is'nt as amazing as dragonlance's (I'm not talking about Morgoth, he's a god. Godhood is'nt magic), so it might be possible that even a magician in Tolkien's world is'nt that strong-willed compared to a magic user in Krynn.

Raistlin is the strongest magic-user that was described in a book or a film of any kind (of course you can always write about a stronger one, but unless it's known world-widely, Raistlin is still considered stronger).

Gandalf and Saruman are lame magic users, they barely use any kind of magic in Lord of the Rings. Even Sauron is lame.

Harry Potter and Voldemort are both weak, Harry not being even as strong as Voldemort, and Voldemort..read HP 7.

@Sharnavon Of course it is absolutely unfair to compare characters from different realms. Clearly Dragonlance is a high magic realm with lots of powerful wizards whereas Middle Earth is a low magic realm. Of course writing styles dictated that. Tolkien wasn't keen on using a lot of magic because it turns into a Deus Es Machina much like Dragonlance's use of magic to solve plot problems.

TRS, which is now Wizards of the Coast, really liked the idea of having something more dragon focused since everything else seemed very dungeon biased. And you're right, we can't really compared characters from different realms. Though I'd like to see a Forgotten Realms Cross over with DL. :P

The people who made the movie made one critical mistake that went through the whole thing. While Dragonlance sprung from D&D style roleplaying, it is a fantasy realm in its own right. Don't treat it like its a roleplaying game!
