  • Which version is this?

  • And this is the Tidal Tempest FTA and NTom so dearly crave.

  • please tell me the misty maze 1 music

  • tell me what's the music

  • just shows how hard a sega md can be pushed shame sega never pushed it hard the sound could of been better shocking it 23 years this year mega drive came out

  • if u ever release this u cud hav an option 2 turn homin attack on or off.

  • The best hack ever. I enjoyed a lot this game...

  • can someone please tell me what's the name of the three FIRST songs in the beginning before the game actually starts? cheers.

  • Nice... Other than the obvious background problem... Reminds me a bit of Hydrocity... (labyrinth too) I hope the background is completely replaced, as it's from the special Sonic CD Stages.

  • just shows how hard a meag drive can be pushed . meag drive was one the best for it's time just sega did not push the sound harder

  • whoa... what's this? where you got that? :)

  • Say, speaking of the background for this zone, where'd you guys get it? Aside from the perspective problems, it looks pretty good.

  • what music is this?

  • This looks vert much like Labyrinth Zone to me.

NIce job with programming in the homing attack.

  • Kega Fusion is better than Gens in terms of accuracy.

  • these videos are pretty badass. It's pretty sad and pathetic a group of amateurs like your selves can actually make a better looking Sonic game than Sonic Team can.

  • This pretty much looks like Aquatic Run Zone.

  • Comment removed

  • Sonic 3d blast music.

  • Wow, I almost expected some kind of Kaizo trap at the end there.

  • that song from what game come from?

  • That music came from Sonic 3D Blast. It is the Panic Puppet Zone Act 2 theme. However in this game it's running a few beats faster than in Sonic 3D Blast.

  • @William3000x I prefer it at this speed

  • Overall this is a very impressive, very interesting hack. However there is one persistent graphical issue with Misty Maze Zone that I just can't ignore: The water is always below you in the background, even when it's above you in the foreground. If I were making this, I'd use a background that didn't have a water surface visible to avoid this issue. That, or make it work like Hydrocity's background (different above and below water), but that would probably be harder to program.

  • hey where can i find a rom and emu for this can u give me it???

  • Anomalocarlos,

That kind of things makes me see how brilliant was the work on the background - foreground of Donkey Kong Country for SNES. In the water stages the background water perspective view varies according to your altitude, giving the most realistic impression of a water surface background i've ever seen in a 16-bit game. But that was all easier to make, thanks to the Mode 7 graphics engine.

  • @William3000x

As I said before, this was actually accomplished in Sonic 3 (& Knuckles). Look at the backgrounds in Hydrocity Zone and Launch Base Zone; the water surface in the background matches the surface in the foreground. So it's certainly possible with the available software, although it might still be infeasibly difficult to do in a hack, in which case they should take a Labyrinth Zone-like approach and use a background that doesn't show a water surface.

  • Can I ask, how do you change the backgrounds? Is there a way to do it without disassembling the ROM?

  • The people, help please code to choose the level and the debug mode ......

  • Hey wat happened to the columns 3 ending music? I liked that music better than this. This one is ok

  • This is from an earlier version, the COlumns 3 music is featured in version 3 and after, I think...

  • Sonic has no buoyancy, he must wear weights in his shoes. Just like me.

  • Okay, call me stupid, but I don't know how to run this game on my computer. I have the file, but I don't know if I have to run it with an emulator or what.

  • Download Gens emulator.

  • I'm sorry, but the perspective is all wrong, how can you see the background when you're underwater?, the water must be foating in mid air, either that or you're in a giant fishtank.

  • its a beta version, the music isnt even this on the final version

  • Beta IN progress, expect bugs like the water thing jesusarnold said, Looks great, Ive always been a fan of labyrinth zone and any other water levels like that

  • ...Is that Space Harrier during the Sonic 2 Beta logo?

  • The Video is a bit slownly. And the water-splashes... no comments! But the Rest of this Video Rock´s!!!!!^^

  • You have to beat the game. Then you will be able to level select.

  • this music is great in the game. too bad it wasn't in the version 3 release. it suited well in the level, though.

  • close one at the end..i would have panicked and made a mistake in that situation. I think the warning music is the most severe panic inducing music of any game ever

  • Was the background based on something? Looks amazing

  • Its the BG of a special stage from Sonic CD so far I remember.

  • It is a music from SONIC 3D (Genesis) : PANIC PUPPET - Act 2. By the way, and even if this hack is wonderful, MISTY MAZE is a nonsense ! The place cannot be filled with water if the background shows hills and air ! LOL

  • This Hack was based in "Sonic 1", so, it has the limitations of the engine.

(Different from Sonic 3, where in the Hidrocity the water works in the way you wanted to.)

  • The way the outside background stays vertically underwater has always bothered me.

  • @sonicfeet That's what I've been wondering. And also, why is the ocean underwater? They coudn't make any 3d effects with the ocean?

  • What music is Used for MM1? AnyBody know. It sounds cool.

  • It doesnt matter, the newest version of the hack doesnt even use this song..

  • How did you get the level select code?

  • Wow...I just got through this as Sonic (I'm at Metallic Base with a save state now)...this zone is NOT EASY--Act 3 is a killer. :-(

  • How and what site can I get this? I'm not sure where... -_-'''

  • Just search "Sonic 1 Megamix" at google.

  • Tried. The downloads won't work for some reason, so thats why I asked.

  • They should work perfectly at Sonic Retro. Do the downloads just not work? or do you just not know how to open them?

If thats the case, you have to run it in a Genesis emulator. Use Gens or Kega.

  • Sonic Retro.....nvr heard of that, I'll look and try their.

  • I tried it, but it still won't work, they all seem to come out the same strange way through...

Do I need to install something else before the Sonic Megamix game? I want to play it so much, I might EXPLODE!!!! (Sorry, a little hyper today)

  • Can you download the file on to your computer but you just don't know what to do with the file..?

  • You have to get Winzip.

  • I have no idea what a Winzip is.

  • Winzip is a program that "unzips" .zip files, do a google search for it and you should find the site. Then you download, install it, and unzip the game, from there you open the file in a Genesis emulator and you're all set.

(If winzip won't unzip the file, then it's probably a .rar file that needs winrar.)

  • Where can I get the emulator and winrar (If the winrar is needed)? (Sorry, not much of a computer wiz, I just got Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, the best game I have ever played, I wonder if Disgaea 2 is out yet...)

  • To get the emulator type "Gens emulator" and get the one that says 2.14

To get WinRar, just type it in google and getting from the official site

  • Got it to work now. SWEET!!!

  • Is this version of the game out yet? I have the old version, but not this one.

  • This version's more than out. 3.0 is the latest hack. Visit the downloads thing if you want it. It's updated.

  • Where's does the intro song originally come from?

  • Youd think they change the music

  • i wanna play :)

  • how do you download and play this wen i download it it just comes up to a page wit a bunch of symbols and stuff and i duno what to do =(

  • 1. download kega fusion, it's the best.

    2. unzip kega fusion

    3. download sonic 1 megamix from sonic retro

    4. open kega fusion (unzipped)

    5. click file

    6. click open

    7. search for sonic 1 megamix

    8. click open on the window

    9. play

Don't forget to set up your controls!

  • If you want more graphical options, choose Gens_Surreal32 emulater.

  • OMG the background looks stunning! I also dig those long green twists~

This looks so much better than the original Labyrinth zone

  • Well on behalf of Tweaker, please stop the useless arguments , and spam. And if ya got somethin bad to say about the game, then I suggest you don't watch it at all. And if you think it's inferior, I wanna see you come up with something better >=(

  • aesniper LEARN U FUKIN BITCH

  • you know what i say the new non 2-d sonic games are shit theyre horrible well except the 3-d version of green hill zone on sonic adventure now that was cool everything else was horrible

  • sonic on sega was the shit. sonic 3 is when they introduced saving the games and super sayan sonic.

  • The Sonic games for the Genesis were clearly the best Sonic games. Your Right on Sonic 3 being the first Sonic game to have the save feature, but your wrong on the second part in a few ways. First, it is "Super Sonic" not super saiyan, Sayians are in the DragonBall storyline ONLY. Second, Sonic 2 was the first game to have Super Sonic, Sonic 3 was the first and ONLY game to feature Hyper Sonic. Make sure you know the REAL facts before even thinking about posting. You n00b.

  • Actually, Super Sonic was introduced in Sonic 2

  • no. sonic 2 introduced supersonic, you just suck too much and can't beat a special stage.

  • Cool,i've never seen a beter hack then this,NICE!!!!!!!!But were can i download it PLEASE TELL ME??

  • yea younisAMAX is right how are you underwater but you see the island and the ocean at the same time lol... well anyways great level

  • If You make a sonic 2 megamix add Tails,Amy,and Silver to the roster.

  • Hey! Did you see the water view in Launch Base Zone Act 2 in Sonic 3?

That's the way I like it...

Of course you need to stop waving the water... to fit the background...

And 1 more thing... Draw the bottom half of the island for Underwater view...

    Well.. I hope it's a good idea...

I can't explain with pictures because I can't put the URL link in YouTube............... Unfortunately

  • Oh well... It's just a Beta...

  • GREAT AND AWESOME!!!!!

    But... something wrong....

NO! I DON'T MEAN THE GLITCHES!!

    I mean the background......

ISLAND AND OCEAN ARE UNDERWATER AND OUT OF THE WATER AT THE SAME TIME?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!

Alright...... *sighs* I hope you can fix it...

  • What you should do is make the bottom water part like the background from act 2.

  • hey, make a contiune :D cosinc 2 megamix

  • Wow!! Tweaker you really have outdone yourself with this level. Ah so what's the next thing you workin on?

  • Love this mod. Are you guys done with this level? The background is great, but when the water comes up it kinda doesnt suit underwater. Great job on the whole project guys.

  • u can skip some locations and start at chemical plant, next aquatick ruins, then hill top, mistical cave, oil ocean, 2 acts from metropolis, then sky chase, death egg and at the end of sonic 2 sonic jumps from Death Egg and Tails cath him. and it will normally continue at sonic 3 and knuckles.

  • Hi tweaker.i have one idea. What about make S1, S2, S3K in ONE game. it will have a story about eggman. it should start with sonic 1 megamix and when eggman is escapnig from final battle in scrap brain he will escape but sonic will follow him.

  • Cool looking level but the background doesn't fits in the Underwater level

  • I see that Team Megamix went all out for Misty Maze, with very impressive results. *applauds* That kind of stuff makes me envious of your work. I hope the sky's the limit for you guys. ^.^

  • yeah, if they put some work into it, im sure they could, hell i've found new redone levels of sonic 2. a redone Aquatic Ruin Zone except its called Underwater mine or something like that, anyway its just like Aquatic Ruin, except its sunset, the level design is basic, and the water is a lot higher.

  • This is excellent! We're all very excited about the next version of Megamix.

  • you have a sunshripsion(spellingh lol) nice bid mate btw good hack to see

  • Sweet remake thar.

  • awsome!

  • What is all of this an where can i download it that

  • You know what would this level even more awesome? Adding the lost Underwater goggle item O:

  • Actually that has already been done in Hivebrain's "Sonic The Hedgehog Plus"

  • Awesome! I love the music, its very catchy. I played v2 of Megamix, I like it very much so far! Keep up the good work, Tweaker :-D

  • nice landscape... where have you taken from?

  • SonicTweaker Do you know when this rom will become available?

  • that background is from a sonic cd special stage!!!finally i know it!!

  • Great Remake of the sonic 1 underwater zone, great music, but if you could, change the background, as cool as it is, it looks as if the water rises about over the sea, islands, and even to the sky lol.

  • er...doesnt that happen in all the sonic games?lol nice work sonictweaker, u really live up to ur name!

  • well if you played all the sonic games, most do take up the entire background, but if so, the background fits in, this is a cool level n such, but the background makes it look all weird with the water added, one way it could work is if they did the underwater switch in sonic 3, once you go under water you can see whats under it

  • nooo you changed the music! while this is still good it doesn't really suite labarynth zone. use the old music with this design :)

  • Theres different music for every act.

  • Yeah i know but the old version had the columns III music in and sounded much better.

  • You fucking retard! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

  • fuck you ccrockyourass! douchebag!

  • Wow, that looks and sounds awesome. Great work, Tweaker.

Will version of Misty Maze be included in Version 3.0?

  • This is one H**l of a hack Tweaker! Good useage of Sonic CD effects.

  • genious... is this gonna be unleashed at any point?

  • It's close to release!

  • Hi Tweaker

Man I Can not wait for the Final Release of your hack(Everyone who saids that this is not a hack....Shut Up)

Anyway are you and the Megamix Team going to put in more Different Backgrounds for all the levels, If so please tell us...

    Good luck to you,

    Mike Arcade

  • What the hell? It's a comment, not an E-mail.

    Dumbass.

  • That last part was like the boss battle for Labyrinth Zone. But then again, that is what this level is based off. Keep up the good work, Tweak!

  • Is this an actual Sonic game?! If not, then how do I get it? Looks ultra cool!

  • First of, this is NOT a hack. It's an extremely awesome fan game. With Homing Attack, Super Peel Out and everything!! :DDDD

Nitpick: there's no "wa we" sound effect when Sonic breathes a bubble of air under water. Sorry, I always look for things like this :P

  • Um, yes, this is a hack. What the hell made you think it wasn't?

And it does make the sound, it was just muffled by other sounds.

  • Oh, nevermind then. No need to curse :P I thought you said that in another vid... my bad.

  • This IS a hack.A simply AWESOME hexadecimal sonic 1 hack.

  • It's from Sonic CD. I love that background

  • How do i play this!!! must play!!!! tell me where to download!! this is like a Picaso painting!

  • Love the BG music, i'm a just wondering whether the way you changed the BG music was to use an MP3 tool, or are those actually MIDIs that you have created which have been coded into the ROM?? I am interested in doing music hacks for Sonic games myself.

  • OK, enough. I'll tell you this in the BEST WAY I can do it:

1- This hack is teh most awesome hack to date (If not, then it is S1 Extended)

2-Tails RULES. No arguing about it

3-If ya think you can do it even better than this, show us your hacking skills.

4- For avoiding being misunderstood, learn from a good english book or don't tipe so fast.

Get it? that was the BEST WAY

  • O_O In three words:

    Amazing, perfect, magnific

You guys made Labyrinth Zone look like nothing!

Ya know...I love this water based levels and this left me very surprised

About the bgm: Panic Puppet's is cool, but you could use that good-old classic from Aquatic Ruin or the columns music here too

    Again, awesome! 5*

  • ths plashing effect is glitched up but the level and bg as MAGNIFICENT

  • This hack looks awesome. Is this the progress completed after Vers. 2.0 was done?

  • I can wacth for this!

    Give ya a SUPER VOTE!

  • Comment removed

  • Absolutely fantastic. But I'm a little skeptical about the music... the bright blue sky and paradise-like feel seems to clash with the darker Panic Puppet theme.

  • The background is a heavily modified version of the one from the 4th special stage in Sonic CD. By heavily modified, I mean that the amount of art has been considerably reduced, and the background waterfalls are now fully animated.

  • I think backgrounds are from tidal tempest special stage.

  • the background and the music was superb. excellent work. i would love to try this level. may I? haha

  • Sweet background. It sets a great atmosphere for the level. Is that custom made or pulled from another game? It looks kind of familiar, but I'm not sure.

  • Sonic CD.

  • It's in Act 2... This is act 1.

I do, however, plan on putting another Columns song in this act sometime in the future.

  • You guys have hacked this so much it doesn't even REMOTELY resemble Sonic 1!~

  • Ehhhh. I've absolutely fallen in love with the work you guys have done on the graphics here - but the level design, while nice, looks like it's venturing a bit far into "Challenge Hack" territory, and I really, really, really hate Challenge Hacks. I mean, and I mean this with no offense, any idiot can create a challenge hack, and that's why there's so many of them out there for every hackable game.

  • As the artist behind the zone, I can safely tell you that the rotating palettes are not causing the problem. The screen sometimes has around 10-15 objects loaded to the object RAM at a time, and it's struggling to cope. Other acts of the zone seem fine for the most part, but Act 1 (shown in the video) really suffers badly. As for the graphical glitches, that's just because I had to rearrange the VRAM to make the art fit in properly. This is easily fixed, and will be before the game is released.

  • Did you make the music?, because whoever made the music did a really nice job for the Sega sound chip.

  • You might've noticed this, but in the original Sonic, during "slowdowns" Sonic's sprite doesn't lag but all of his enemy sprites do. It usually happens when Sonic is running way too fast to pay attention to the enemies, but if you watch them closely, they are all moving in slow motion.

  • It's... not much of a water level without water. :E

  • well, I think you should tone down the number of watterfall effects, I think they're causing the game to lag up. It was fine with a few squares of em but whole areas of them were causin' a mess.

  • That's not what's causing the lag - it's the amount of objects on the screen at once. It's not exactly easy to redesign the level with this in mind without it seeming bare.

  • Nice job. Looking fowrward to another beta release.

  • Homing attack? Semi-Failure!

  • stfu
