Supposedly, the last one ever was two nights ago. A Class 3A State Title game. It was a great 37 year run! With my Dad, I watched Dad's alma mater when a state title there in 1990 .. High school kids getting to play their playoff games there is-was a pretty big deal.

I've photo'd 200+ games from the sidelines, and seen both refs and players do stupid crap. If the ref did hinder the LB's play, and the player repeatedly informed him of it, and ref says "shut your pie hole", I could see myself at age 17 doing something similar. "Authority" is often NOT in the right! I think it was an Abilene Wylie game in 04, saw a Wylie player after the whistle, pull a kids helmet off, and throw 10 face punches right in front of ref. I ask ref WTF?, guess his response: SHUT UP

The Trinity player was upset because he felt that he was constantly being held (he was), and when he complained to the ref, the ref told him to shut up and stop his whining, so he hit the ref intentionally. The officiating was horrible in that game, but it's absolutely no excuse for assaulting an official, which is clearly what happened.
