  • respect guys!

  • its pretty sad that no one else respects the other guards around the world

  • 0:53 to the right, is that an Army JROTC cadet? LoL!!!

  • Great coverage of this sacred tradition. I would love a chance to meet the 2 people who disliked this video. God help you if I find our your an American.

  • Its actually not as complicated as your making it out to be. Once possible DNA matches are made you simply go with the 2nd&3rd highest % matches. Once your in the data base your "consent" to cross examine your DNA against that of someone else is not req. Happens all the time. Now there are several rules &safeguards set in place by the us Gov from dis allowing local Police or other entities from accessing the registry. You have to be a federal agency with just cause for accessing the registry.

  • DNA testing could easily establish who these fallen men were however then the guard would no longer be needed. Don't give me that "oh DNA technology didn't exist back then" well your right it didn't however im sure these fallen men had family members who lived on. DNA can be matched to people hundreds of years apart.

  • @bordone The idea that they are unknown might limit whom to test. Also, seeing as a lot of these were probably 18 to 25ish year old men, they probably didn't have children when they passed, so the WW1, WW2, and Korean war vets parents are dead, and their brothers and sisters are probably dead as well. Compound that with these are remains that are unidentified in conflicts where there are tens of thousands of soldiers who are MIA, makes this a little more difficult to fathom.

  • @bordone so how would they possibly know who to test????? The Unknown remains are just that.

  • @dmedicFF there is a DNA registry for the military. yes these men predate that registry however im sure this unknowns had family members that survived. sisters brothers cousins aunts uncles etc. Where the registry comes into play with this is, if just one of those surviving family members offspring joined the military their DNA is on file. A quick culture swab and off to the lab it goes and before you know it we have a possible match of who the men are.

  • @bordone But there would have to be relatives still alive, who have a suspicion that their distant relative is an Unknown, and have strong evidence, and enough of it to have a Court order to have the remains exhumed for testing. Thats the way the Vietnam unknown was identified, and it was a long process. Don't hold your breath- chances are any relatives are long gone.

  • @dmedicFF No see, Im looking at this as "IF" I was the us government who finally decided it was time to identify the remains of the Unknown at the tomb. DNA analysis has come a long way within the last few years. The current federal DNA registry could be used to identify distant family members who in tern once informed of their DNA match to the fallen could supply a genealogical history and from there it would be just a matter of connecting the branches to the family tree.

  • @bordone You havent answered the question. How will you ID people sharing the same DNA, when you dont know who they are or where they are?

  • @dmedicFF The DNA registry that currently exist has all information about the individual onit. so lets say for example, unknown solder 1 pops on a % match for joe smith. the computer will tell you who he is what is his address his height weight etc.. in short even if he only is deemed a distant relative its still a starting point.

  • @bordone what I've been trying to tell you is, the relative to the Unknown has to already be in the database, and you are talking a tremendous amount of work. A big and expensive shot in the dark. Plus, its potentially intrusive to people in the database. They may not want to be involved and may resent the exam of DNA without their consent. I'm amazed there are people who want to see this memorial done away with. It represents countless Unknowns, not just the remains present.

  • @dmedicFF check the comment above this one. I ran out of character space. I don't want you to demonize me for simply trying to identify the remains of unknown fallen solders who gave there everything defending our great country. in my and a lot of peoples opinion they deserve to be identified and recognized to there brave service. The memorial could easily remain as tribute and the old guard can remain at the cemetery continuing their mission. It really wouldn't change that aspect.

  • @bordone Yeah but you said "the guard would no longer be needed". Youre one of few who make comments that imply the Tomb Guards are a waste of time and money. We do not have DNA on every single American who ever lived, in order to compare. Even if we did, as I said below it would be an extremely arduous and even impossible venture. Certainly more complicated and expensive than keeping the Guards in place.

  • @dmedicFF it is true we dont have DNA on every citizen in the U.S., however we dont need too. all we would need is a DNA sample from one of the unknown and input that data into the registry and hit the search button (over simplifying) It would literary take hours not days months or years to bring up possible matches. Even a distant cousin would still show as a possible and that's a starting point. I have nothing against the guard. I want to see the unknown recognized for there service

  • @bordone Not sure it would be that easy or successful, but good enough. Merry Christmas to you....

  • @dmedicFF and too you as well

  • @bordone Another thing is, not only do the Sentinels pay homage to the Unknowns, they serve as a continual reminder to us, of the sacrifices made for our freedoms. I understand that nowadays not many people care about that, but still many do.

  • lol when he said 5-600 hours i thought he meant like spending a month shining his shoes. I forgot about military time :p

  • @BleetRamsey No, he literally meant 500 - 600 hours! We would take several hours shining our boots to perfection just for ONE inspection. imagine these guys shining their shoes to perfection 2-3 times a day, EVERY DAY. You could easily rack up hundreds of hours.

  • @BleetRamsey Plus he is talking about "Spit Shining"- much different from applying a coat of Kiwi and then brushing it off. Takes hours and hours

  • Thank you

  • Uniform preparation is similar to the Marne Corps. Funny. Either way, as a Former Marine, I am proud that our Army does this.

  • It's disappointing that this particular piece of journalism is less than five and a half minutes long. These sentinels deserve to be recognized for, definitely, one of the most demanding jobs in the world. I think this tomb and the men who guard it should have there own national holiday.

  • Leaving for the Old Guard in a week! Can't wait!!!

  • @TheArmySoldier80 even though you cant wait, ull remember it forever. been 3+ years and i remember every day of the 4 years being there. good luck on whatever else you face

  • Honor, Valor, Pride. Thank you to those that served.

  • @kirra77 Dissent in democracy is essential. But the soldiers of the 3rd Infantry and the Unknowns would never refer to their Commander in Chief that way. You dishonor them.

  • @World0fWhorecraft

You need killing. Plain and simple.

  • Oh sorry i didnt see it sed whorcraft

  • WorldOfWorlraft, u must not be an american, it made me sick to read your coment.

  • Im beyond impressed, this is so amazing.......to all who do this job, just absolutely amazing, and may God shine his love on you and yours always.

  • @World0fWhorecraft Your fucking retarded.Guarding the Tomb of the Unknown is the highest honor Earned within the United States Army. They are soldiers, guarding those who never fully made it home.Until you join the military, you cannot understand the vital importance of this.

  • @World0fWhorecraft No you Dumb ass bitch. I was in the Honor Guard. I KNOW that you just dont get shiny shoes out of this. And what the fuck would your stupid ass know about respect. Aside from that, its only a 2-4 year term. Its not a lifetime. Its and Assignment. You know when you go all out for your 19hr marathon jerk off session to imaginary computer imagery on world of ASScraft. These guys stand for something! These Guys mean something. And they go all out to show respect!

  • @jm091308 So wait, you were in the 3rd Infantry? HOLY TOLEDO! MAJOR respect, bro. MAJOR respect. You guys definitely deserve it. True, the constant shining and ironing and steaming and all that may seem tedious, but when you look at WHY they do it, then, it doesn't seem unnecessary.

  • @World0fWhorecraft You have no idea! Your trash! You have no respect! You wouldn't know HONOR, DEVOTION, SACRIFICE, if it took a dump on your face! These men do this because its an Honor to stand and guard a national hero that gave his life so YOU can make stupid comments on Youtube like and ignorant ass! How bout just saying, They are a better man than I for doing it, Thank you, and going back to your meaningless life of xbox and internet porn!

  • SFC Malcolm is a bitch. Come jump my leg one day like you did those soldiers at PLDC. hahahha.

  • it firgures going from a PLDC instructor to a Tomb Guard. Do you ever serve in a real unit?

  • I wonder if all of them get 300 or more on the APFT???

  • i had a discussion with a bunch of future soldiers why i would love this job and they all look at me like i was stupid and they all wanted to be the door kickers and think its fun to shoot rifles and kill stuff ......... makes me sick

  • @lvrpatriot01 You would not be there forever. You would be sent to an Infantry Unit and deploy eventually.

  • These guys should get a mexican to shine and polish their shoe...lol!

  • why do they click their heels?

  • @virginiatechfanx its one way of keeping on count to ensure that movements are correct

  • What fucking human being would dislike this! I'm glad dumb asses can dislike the military and what we do. Yes we I'm going to the Marine Corps this summer. Couldn't be prouder. This stuff just bothers me.

  • This makes me proud. The most disgusting and sickening thought in my mind is that Obama is the official leader of these real Americans. Blood Sweat and Tears for this land and they have to answer to that sick inbred of a man. Obama is a piece of trash. I will be in D.C in 2013 to see our next President take back the White House. Obama will go down in History as the biggest con artist on earth.

    Obama is a Joke.

  • @kirra77 lol, good luck, you'll be coming for Obama's inauguration.

  • i think with the whole shining the shoes thing they have a touch of ocd

  • @acadamenorth

The word your MEANT to say is discipline.

    Johnny-on-the-block has none.

  • Questions for a tomb guard! when did they change rifles from 1903A3, Do you have any idea. Thanks for your service! This is something really special. I hope to see it live one day. Thanks Thanks ! I was never in the army but I see this as very special indeed! Again thank you

  • This is the first time I have ever seen one of them talking or showing some sort of movement or emotion

  • These Soldiers should get a pay raise.

  • @cadetkb they do

  • @cadetkb i meant to thumbs up sorry

  • If anyone out there has done this. Thank you! dcgj2011

  • Its My Dream To be in the 3rd RG

  • I wish you the best of luck, because what you see here is there "normal" routines when "off duty". The minute you arrive at BCT you will be recurited by The Old Guard based upon your P.T. scores and physical appearance; you must be 6 feet or over and not have a waist size bigger than 29 inches.

    HOOAH!

  • Oh, another thing I forgot; you must be able to walk from 30 minutes to an hour.

  • @cadetkb It's two hour shifts at night time.

  • the most telling sentence said "just because somebody can't see it, doesn't mean that it shouldn't be shined." notice how sgt. malcom steps back as the interviewer steps towards him. you can see how much he has put into this commitment aside from the physical preparation. outstanding.

  • @ohbabycarpediem ur an idiot

  • @ohbabycarpediem I kinda like the one at the beginning when Russ Mitchell said "Katie is off tonite". That bitch doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as these men.

  • There's no way you could possibly know that...

  • wow. what most people dont know is sgt malcom was spc magnuson's drill sgt in basic training..

  • that forward moving about-face is great that he pulled at 5:01. i can't get it right

  • reverse march?

  • it's a modified about face. i finally got it right after a few times of practice, i was getting the foot placement wrong, not stepping over far enough

  • I love this stuff! I think ALL Americans should see this! It makes me proud. And, I was never in the military. It's just WOW. That's COOL.

  • The Coolest thing ever!!! I hope to see it in person someday!!!!

  • i dont mean to be an ass, but these guards are supposed to be perfect at what they do but one of the guards cant even spea proper grammar at 1:05

  • yeah he can't even spea.

  • I was fortunate enough to witness the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday of this week. I was in D.C. for a training the last few days and this was the highlight of my trip. I saw young men execute their job with the most precision Ive every seen in my life. Their dedication to the Fallen is unyielding and Im proud to have young men like these guarding of our Country.

  • It may be an exaggeration...but maybe not. They are indeed constantly polishing their shoes to keep the shine up. Constantly doing it.

  • no shit there man, i know a guy from echo co. at 3rd IR and he has 3 hundred hours and hes not even in training et

  • i have well over 100 hours

  • im pround of u sometimes i dont think they are not real but they are

  • oh yeah they are real lol thanks

  • your a civilian arent you?

  • hey jackass if you shine your shoes 4 to 5 hours a day, 30 days a month, for a whole year, that is about 1400 hours shining shoes, tomb guards will likely serve 18 to 24 months at the tomb of the unknowns, 600 hours is nothing. shut your face

  • Hey jackass, if you shine shoes 4 to 5 hours a day, you're wasting my tax money.

  • No point n arguing. What these men do is without a doubt the most prestigious job in the United States, besides President perhaps. U may not understand y they shine their shoes, and no one may ever, until they r actually a member of the Old Guard. So don't shit on someone else for doing something u don't think is right until u have lived their life, done their job, and experienced the experiences they experience on a daily basis. I couldn't careless what u think, but u should stop talking.

  • xDDDD

  • Idiot douchebag civilian.

Fuck you and your bullshit tax money

  • @RichoRosai smh

  • Nasty civilian.

  • Arrogant cretinous meathead.

  • I have a degree in Behavioral Sciences and Criminal Justice and I was a Far East Cryptologic Linguist for the U.S. military for six years. Meaning, I intercepted North Korean radio transmissions, translated them and converted them into code. So, how am I a cretinous meathead, pray tell?

  • Mr Kintaman2 (probably shouldn't have given him that much respect to call him Mr. but...) is obviously clueless! One day he will wake up and smell something that triggers his sense of respect......MAYBE???

  • Can anyone imagine how society would be different, if every person had the same sense of attention to detail and duty that the Sentinels have?

  • I hear you. I was an army infantryman for 4 years, and now serve as a firefighter-paramedic, and I've heard people say many times (even yesterday) "you do too much". The infantry and the military in general have a different work ethic.

  • how many soldier gets to do guard the tomb? are they the same people? as in like a group of soldiers specially chosen to guard?

  • the 3rd inf. reg. is in charge of all the duties at arlington including the tomb of the unknowns there recruited out of basic to joing the "old guard" and you serve a 2 year tour of service

  • Honor is something Mr. Kintaman knows

    absolutely nothing about.

  • kintaman2:

You know what? If you lived in another country you would probably be arrested or killed for saying something like that.

You need to thank them for YOUR freedom...and that you are able to have free speech and say something stupid like you did....And it is ok because these guys fought and died so you could post idiotic comments.

It is a great honor to guard The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Something you obvioulsy know nothing about....

  • He's a jap.

  • amen

  • @kintaman2 You're a fucking piece of shit. Just FYI.
