This is a huge global asset and money should be paid to to ensure this sort of exploitation does not take place - otherwise who are we to chastise Brasil when we are so willing to commit so little of our own strength towards an effective environmental change.

Theres no justification for the actions of these people. It should still be noted though these are just poor miners. Whats worse is the oil giants plundering the entire planet for oil wherever its found. Alberta's oil sands for example. Once all of the oil is extracted from Alberta and Saskatchewan's oil sands all that would be left behind is barren wasteland instead of what used to be beautiful forests.
