He let the ball past him, the keeper had already dived and would have made a fine save if the player had kept the ball. In the box, this should not have been a penalty.

As this was happening, the goalie, unable to stop, was going for the ball but since the attacker failed miserably, he contacted the player, who was already falling from his horrible mistake. The goalie didn't impede the player from kicking, because he had missed the ball before there was even contact.

But since he missed, his foot followed through, and was too far infront to keep his balance. Gravity pulled him down just as the keeper slid and he toppled overtop. When you go to ground you must be sure of getting the ball, all coaches in England teach that. I dont know if you have different rules in your country, but England is the home of football.

Alos watch the body language of the players before they start protesting, some look guilty as hell, especially the guy who puts his hands in the air to protest the keppers innocence, so not trying to claim a goal kick. Player behaviour is a good indicator for decisions as they truly know what happened.
I'm a qualified referee and i can tell you now its a penaulty. Regardless of whether its soft or not, the kepper fouled a player in the box=penaulty. Its a foul because even though the player missed it, the keeper is nowhere near the ball and he takes the player out.
You may say the player just fell into him but if a player is falling over and you push him so he falls faster, its still a foul.
Now for momentum, well if the keeper commits like that, then he HAS to win the ball, else risk a pen.
this is not correct mrpuccapucca. it can't be a foul because the player has no control 0f the ball and just runs into the keeper. if he had touched it round him it would be a pen but all thats happening here is to players running into eachother. if it's a foul on the player then its a foul on the keeper.

@klrsproduction The ball does not have to be under control, as long as its in play, and yes if a goalkeeper fouls a player in the area and the ball is outside it is still a penalty. It is the location of the foul and not the ball that counts as long as the ball is in play.

@travellingboy1 This is not a penalty, the goalie was sliding forward to block the shot which you can clearly see. The player whiffed his shot and he collided with the goalie and fell. Was the goalie supposed to stop and let him take the shot instead?

@Barbq12 When any player including the keeper goes to ground fails to get the ball and hits an opposing player it is a foul. When you go to ground you must be sure of getting the ball, all coaches in England teach that. I dont know if you have different rules in your country, but England is the home of football.

@travellingboy1 that doesn't stop it being ridiculous though, because if the striker had struck the ball the goalie would likely have saved it and still made contact with the player but it wouldn't have been a penalty because he touched the ball. The rules are really daft when it come to penalties. There should be some requirement of an opportunity to score being thwarted by the foul, rather than just any foul inside the box.

@travellingboy1 wtf are you on about? he was not "chopped down," he ran straight into the goalkeeper (AFTER having lost control of the ball, which means, as someone else said, the contact did not have any consequence on the next action, to make matters worse). Running directly into the path of a defending player does not qualify as a foul on the defenders part, that would be ridiculous. There is NO WAY IN HELL that is a penalty.

LOOK! for all those that disagree with me, i shall now set the record straight. The ball is NOT dead, its still in play. If a player is falling over and you help him fall over faster, that is still a foul. Some of you say the player ran into the keeper, if the keeper would have touched the ball, then this would not have been a foul but he missed it completly and touched the player which caused him to fall faster. I know i spelt penalty wrong but i was touch typing.

Alos watch the body language of the players before they start protesting, some look guilty as hell, especially the guy who puts his hands in the air to protest the keppers innocence, so not trying to claim a goal kick. Player behaviour is a good indicator for decisions as they truly know what happened.

I'm a qualified referee and i can tell you now its a penaulty. Regardless of whether its soft or not, the kepper fouled a player in the box=penaulty. Its a foul because even though the player missed it, the keeper is nowhere near the ball and he takes the player out.
You may say the player just fell into him but if a player is falling over and you push him so he falls faster, its still a foul.
Now for momentum, well if the keeper commits like that, then he HAS to win the ball, else risk a pen.

this is not correct mrpuccapucca. it can't be a foul because the player has no control 0f the ball and just runs into the keeper. if he had touched it round him it would be a pen but all thats happening here is to players running into eachother. if it's a foul on the player then its a foul on the keeper.
