  • The Citroen XM is earlier in the scene an older one and after that is facelifted.

  • My dad had the 6.9 in high school back in 83' he said it was literally beating every car he matched up..he blacked it out and sold it for 5k in 95..he deeply regretted it.

  • 5:20 CGI smoke ??

  • @RedGrant: Are you mad? :P

  • OMG I hope Michael Bay remakes this!!! it would be so tight! There could be bullet time slow motion with a camera panning and sweeping around the car and then into the car with badass head shot of justin timberlake with a pimp smile. More explosions, more driving past bikini clad chicks, 20's on the rims, mazeratis, hoopties, & all the phattest whips. Of course lil wayne and cee lo on the beats instead of this wack shit. Throw in some flaming ninjas and helicopters too while we're at it.

  • @benkatz80 Don't forger, all the good guys have to be driving GM'S!

  • I love the rearview mirror on the XM that repairs it self looool

  • This is very good car chase and great movie but I just cant't watch that Audi being hited like that by some Citroen. There is something special about Audi S8. It's like a gentle giant, brute power in nice polite body.

  • 8:24-8:27 - Best bit! :D

  • the only bad thing about car chases is that the fuck up good cars ^^

  • It´s Stellan Skarsgård

  • old lady still in shape......i mean mrs. mercedes 6.9

  • I really like that chase. You can't compare this Chase and the bullit chase. They're both really cool.

  • Eight people are stuck in a traffic jam in their puny Nissan Micras.

  • I want an S8 already, and whats in damn case?

  • I am sorry but the case in Ronin does not even come close to the Bullit, or the Driver.

I think it is a rather mediocre one.

  • I Have 1994 2.0L Turbo Citroen XM Prestige, what a brilliant car !! Also love the chase's in his super film.

  • This ain't it!! It was an older BMW 5 series & a Citroen.

  • i love that all the engine noise and every shift is exactly where it should be. one of the best chase movies ever

  • The Mercedes W 116 is a awesome car, high class quality plus that powerful engine! Back in the 70,s, that car was voted as the best 4 door car n the world. I own a 350 SE from 1975 and its still in best shape! The quality is awesome! There is no other car, not even the Audi or BMW. Those cars where best! The Audi and BMW are more modern cars, there is no way to compare with that Mercedes!

  • though i have to admit the movie righteous kill was like a comeback for deniro

his presence at themovie as should be. hope to manage to keep the stick high from now on...

  • de niros last decent action movie together with the first class action thriller, "heat".

afterwards gained weight changed his style and turned to comedies, light action movies such as "the score" and 15 minutes, shame really....

    here deniro at his best......

  • This is rubbish. I had a 450 se and I think films like this are bullshit.

  • Classic hardcore DeNiro here....

  • Wow, Real Smoke!

  • Thriller? No, that's praise for cars!!

  • What I love about this movie is the bystanders never get out of the way to safety in time.

  • poor french people

  • I'm sure a lot of French cars are quick and handle well, but they're so damn uglyyyyyyyyyy!!!!

  • Wow. That is amazing stuff. But you guys dissing Bullitt have to remember that Bullitt was made in 1968, when they didn't have all of the editing trickery and CGI stuff they have now. McQueen really did drive that Mustang and Bill Hickman really did drive that '68 Charger.

  • @paktype I'm with you! The REAL chases of old...Bullitt, The French Connection, Vanishing Point, The Seven-Ups, the original Gone in 60 Seconds...will always be my favorites.

  • @paktype Uh huh. And actors like Matt Damon, Nick Cage and Tom Cruise do their own driving stunts now. Tricks, cuts and stunt drivers are nothing new (and certainly existed in the '60s). CGI isn't used half as much as people like to pretend and it certainly isn't the reason we have fantastic modern car chases.

Just search for "MATT DAMON DAREDEVIL CAR CHASE" for an interview with him about the French Connection inspired chase in Bourne Ultimatum.

  • car scene as good as bullet and the music is as tight as fuck

  • ZA JE BI STE!!!!!

  • 2:27 french Terry Tibbs

  • @globalste the turn was real, just all the computer-generated smoke that came off of the tires was fake as hell! Wouldnt you agree??

  • Excellent drivers i gotta say.

  • Yeah but...... whats in the case?

  • Such a good film. Cracks me up though. Their so intent on shooting each other they don't realise they've killed nearly every poor bugger on his way home from work. It's like Family Guy when Peter has his fights with the chicken. If it was like this I don't think I'd ever drive in Europe EVER!!!!

  • that 180 turn the benz took was fake as FUCK

  • @grosas84 are you referring to the 270 reverse handbrake turn? How is it fake?

  • Dude are you kidding me? Fucking kidding me? you cut out the best part dude!!!!!!! The end where DeNiro has the Minimi!!!! cmon man

  • @laffyta2 you are right i just used the (illegitimate) DVD chapter marking. Unfort I could not edit it any better. Sorry for my bad skills :( hope you enjoyed it though

  • @777jones Ahhhh its ok. I did like it :) The part with the H&K 69 and the Sig 551 was pretty cool... although the end is the best part of the movie.

dude can you put the scene with the FN Minimi that DeNiro has on here??

  • Dat tire smoke

  • I don't know what it is but there's something about this movie that irritates me, it's too cheesy.

  • @KiloByte69 may cuz of your cheddar teeth

  • @snailarmpits

    hah touche!

  • What can you do in an Audi?

    One word: Ronin!

    Awesome movie!! Thanks for uploading!

  • Is this better than the chase under the river later?Don't think so, but opinions vary.

  • HOLY FUCK WHAT A (almost) 360DEGREE HE DID WITH THAT MERC!!!

  • I could never work out why they overlaid some really naff CGI smoke when the Merc does the J-turn just after the firefight. Ruins the whole shot, haha!

  • best car chase film. Audi S8 are just sublime. Nothing as good as. Not even ferrari or the supercars have what it takes in comparison to that audi. Its a masterpiece in car design

  • One of my favorite films, great chase scenes and its partly responsible forme being an Audi fan since my childhood years.

  • I bet stunt man had enormous fun chasing Citroen and not worrying about S8 and its suspension

  • @prontoklasik I believe DeNiro hired the actual retired rally drivers to film chase scenes in Ronin...

  • Comment removed

  • Notice how the headlights on the S8 popped out and during the near end of the chase miraculously shifted back in?

  • Easily my favourite car chase movie of all time. Not just one epic chase, but two!

  • i love the sound of the citroen on rev limiter.

  • The Smoke from the tire in 5:20 ,are extremely digitally altered . In fact ,it's the same animation E.A. Games used to show to how the tires burn while a car is pilling out, drifting , or stopping really hard.

  • @Djcrazykidd Well, it's a decently old movie.

  • @TraustiGeir True , indeed

  • Jean Reno rocks !

  • 5:06 hilarious deaths of innocent bystanders, i feel so bad for them

  • 5:21 , fake smoke???

  • I ♥'s this film as a kid for the car chases alone, but it is a great movie.

  • Interesting, I had not noticed until now, but around 5:20 you can see the smoke has been digitally added.

  • @VincentandCoBxl You're right, I never noticed that O_O

  • After Bullit, best film chase scene ever! Terrible editing @ 7:20!

  • @effmunee They forgot the Audi! Never noticed that until now. Nice one.

  • After Bullit, best film chase scene ever!

  • 340 ks on audi....lol

  • I don't understand why every character in the movie is using a sedan, not that there's anything wrong with that cause there isn't, but I just can't comprehend.

  • @QRXenomorphs

What else would they use? Those Citroens are heavy, a sports car would not be able to muscle them around.

  • @sherman3211 I was thinking they could use cars like Lotus Elises for cornering, but what you said about muscle them around makes perfect sense.

  • Wow... That Audi is a BEAST!

  • Hah! At 9:53...you GOTTA love a gal who can handle an MP-5!

  • 5:20 super fake smoke

  • I'm a fan of this movie and seeing this many times especially the chase scene I noticed some time ago that one can see I believe the camera's shadow appearing on tire's front right tire or some rigging anyway. ^^

    5:52

  • Wow! The Citroën´s sound at 04.42 it´s like the Nonda NSX´s from "Getaway in Stockholm 3". Search the film and heard it! Are the same!

  • The actor who plays Larry actually did a lot of the stunt driving himself.

  • Comment removed

  • that mountain road... it's got to be the same one at the beginning of goldeneye, the bond film! anyone else agree?

  • Old special effects on smoke... lovin' it!

  • lol at the fake smoke! although great chase

  • Ronin is one of the best movies ever!

  • I've probably watched this film more than 10 times, but the poor cut shown at 7:20 still bothers me. Best car chases ever though.....

  • Weird how in different scenes the cars have damage and then dont in other scenes , cool how they fix themselves lol.

  • This is my personal favorite car chase. No computer enhancement which IMO makes more modern chase scenes lose all credibility. Of course, as the owner of a D2 model Audi S8, I am a little prejudiced.

  • @JDSFLA If you watch carefully there are actually quite a few digital tricks going on in this sequence... including a very fake smoke enhancement at 5:20 and painting out (then revealing) premade bullet holes in the cars to save practical pyro work on set.

  • @HeliVis You are likely correct. However, what I meant about computer enhancement was the kind of use where completely illogical scenes are enacted - like cars flying 100 feet through the air while doing a 360 degree flip and landing upright and continuing the chase. That kind of obvious computer use just makes me think "how stupid". I don't expect real bullets to be used. So it is a case of degree - is the use to make things appear true-to-life or not.

  • @JDSFLA O ya I gotcha, well if you're getting picky ehehe you'd have to create a long list of things we 'expect' to see in film that doesn't really match up with reality like certain pyro effects vs real etc. The tradgedy here is that young 'filmmakers' rarely if ever look to someone like Frankenheimer anymore or even know who he was or what he is known for.. like his 'signature' compositions or his mastry of car sequences. I personally think this sequence blows "Bullitt" right off the stage.

  • @JDSFLA How do you explain the exploding produce then? I'm just curious.

  • @Grimmvald Oh that's probably real pyro and real produce, we're talking about a 'mix' of things here. The comped-in smoke seems to be something they wanted enhanced perhaps. If Frankenheimer were still around he was approachable. If you had an eMail and din't come of flakey he'd talk to you. He was a proponant of old/new mixed like T2 style. See the best night gunfire anywhere in "Ambush", that's half/half.

  • @Grimmvald It grows that way!

  • good old days with no CGI

  • Does anyone else notice how fake the smoke looks at 5:20?

  • German cars over all

  • Man, you can really hear the engine in that Citroen working hard.

  • @SpeedingStudent Dickhead

  • @SpeedingStudent You are a crap.

  • @SpeedingStudent

Yeah, that's why they Sebastian Loeb has 7 straight WRC (Rally Cars) titles driving for Citroen.

That's also why they almost all score 5 stars in the EuroNCAP crash tests.

Not to mention why Rolls Royce and the old Mercedes S-classes used the gas suspension made by Citroen.

    You know NOTHING.

  • @McLarenMercedes The DS's self leveling hydro- pneumatic suspension was a technological wonder. It's no wonder that limousine makers like Rolls Royce would incorporate it into their massive cars.

  • @Grimmvald Well it's not even a DS in this chase, it's an XM.

  • @RoadRunnerDrummerJD ; Exact, my father had the same, with a 3.0l V6. Good car, but a little heavy...

  • @McLarenMercedes

You are correct that Rolls used the citroen system under license, but Mercedes made their own improved parts and did not use Citroen parts like Rolls/Bentley. This of course makes parts extremely hard to come by.

Citroens are cool cars though, shame we don't get any here in the States. You see the odd DS around, but thats extremely uncommon.

  • @McLarenMercedes and now guess why they dont do that anymore.Citroen themselves said, over the years the citroen badge got smaller and smaller and the smaller it got the less cars they sold

(btw,no clue why the suspensions only worked really well in citroen,in the mercedes´ they keep braking down)

  • @SpeedingStudent

For your info Citroen pretty much revolutionized the car industry back in 1955 with their ID (later known as DS model). The whole front panel with instruments was formed from plastic in a single piece. Later this method was copied by all other major manafacturers. The styling was aerodynamically advanced at a time most other cars were shaped like bricks.

And how the hell do you explain all the Paris-Dakar rally wins? They hardly have dirt roads in the African wildside.

  • @SpeedingStudent

What was that? Insanely high scores for the EuroNCAP crash tests? That is safety. Hey did I mention Front Wheel Drive was used by Citroen in the 30's long before the rest of the world realized it made sense for anything but supercars.

I have some bad news for you. You are clearly an idiot. Idiots don't last. Karma is a bitch and ignorance is death. Wanna bet?

    Troglodyte cretin.

  • @SpeedingStudent Well they can't be totally gutless if one can get away from an Audi S8. I was just saying it sounds a bit tinny.

  • @SpeedingStudent ah ah ah , learn about french cars and maybe after we can think about talking together... french cars wan 14times the WRC. US cars? 3 times ;) let me laugh

  • @SpeedingStudent be quiet , be silent little nerd show some respect to your french idols , now log off youtube and go fast to the next burger king , increase your fat a bit more , thx fattie.

  • Quattro AWD FTW

  • Citröen XM *_*

  • My grandfather's got a 1975 450 SEL, bright green. Not sure whether it's a 6.9 or not. It's been sitting in the woods for 20 years and had a tree limb fall on the trunk, smashing the right tail light and putting a huge dent in the trunk lid. The hood's also rusted shut. But damn, I wanna fix that car up more than anything!

  • @spencerific93 Better have a huge pile of money somewhere--parts for Benzs, especially old ones, are outrageously expensive.

  • I love those rimowa suitcases

  • My Dad had a silver 1979 6.9. Frickin' rocket sled.

  • HOLY SHIT!! robert de nero has a M60 heavy f**king machine gun!!

  • @RawVSsamckdown

no he doesn't that is actually a FN Minimi or as we americans know it the M249 SAW 5.56mm

  • @ronin2172

    ah yes, thanks

  • at 5:20 the smoke is fake.

  • Ronin

  • That guy at 5:50 is a stunt. Look the hair is darker that Niro's

  • That guy in a A8 is an stupid. That car has a V8 4.2 engine that kick ass. The Citroen has a small v6. OK, all that is for the movie.

  • @josemanuel599 Was there a point in that comment?

  • @TraustiGeir Its about how stupid are most scenes on movies. You see a Ford Mondeo chasing a Porsche 911 and reach it. All are bloopers.

  • @josemanuel599 I don't get it. Yes, the Audi has a bigger and badder engine than the Citroen, so? He caught up with them and attempted to bring them to a stop, that was the point of the chase.

  • Great film, I dig the film and this scene is cool too but I just can't help but say it it... 5:20 = worst CGI'd photoshot spraycan tool 'tyre smoke' evar

  • Jean Reno ftw! :)

  • All french "cars" are totally shit.

  • I love the pacing of this film and it's adult style film making. Not all flash, but substance instead.

  • the MB smoke is fake at 5:21

  • @IPanonymous dag I didn't even know that thanks for pointin that out i woulda never seen it

  • @IPanonymous

    thanks genius

  • @IPanonymous Good catch. yes, is digitally done.

  • Comment removed

  • The Citroën XM changes between being a mark I and a mark II depending on if it is driving in the city or in the countryside. Amazing car.

  • great movie and great car

  • Damn! That 450SEL looks so good. Real Old School class

  • They are chasing Howie Mandel from Deal or No Deal because he cheated and took the million dollar case away from the contestants mid show. Robert Deniro, Jean Reno and Stellan Skarsgard happened to be watching at the same time.

  • look at the audi in 7:42 and look at 9:25 that was a not the same car at 7:42

  • @raji2pac Or they could have filmed the 2nd scene first, but yeah the headlights fix themselves.

  • @TheJoePepper hhhh

  • What I liked about this movie was that it was honest: during EVERY action scene or chase scene in it, about 50 innocent bystanders apiece get run down or shot up.

It puts its money where its mouth is, this movie.

  • It's too bad that car chases now are all special effects. Get back actual people doing actual things with actual cars!!!

  • Great Action film from the 90's. Robert De Niro's character was smart and so quick-witted. Loved him very much. Jean Reno, Natascha McElhone and others did a great job too. Car chase scene was brilliant. Our modern Actions are horrible. Even B-grade films & Made-For-TV movies in the 90's were 100x better than modern so-called "Blockbusters" from Hollywood.

  • You can see John Frankenheimer was a true car connoisseur so use a 6.9. He really knew how to capture the thrill of cars and fast driving better than anyone else - even his 60's classic Grand Prix has the most intense driving scenes that blows modern crap like fast and the furious out the water

  • No, i dont know Citroens. But I know something about that MB. 450SEL 6.9 produces 286 horspower and 550 Nm torque. It have Hydropneumatic suspension with automatic level lowering device and controlled damping. The system automaticly makes suspension harder for more stablility driving. That MB have powersteering and power assisted brakesystem with 4x discbrakes. Yes, it is massive car but i would still say its not so bad at curvy road as it looks like. And besides its way more cool than Citroen?

  • I love this car chase. The Audi is cool, but I like the other car the Citroen Xantia much better. Did anyone else notice that when the convoy leaves the mansion that the third car back ( The blue Peugeot 406 ) is the same car Robert De Niro and Jean Reno drive in the second chase?

  • Comment removed

  • @ufofan1980 Yeah I thought I saw a 406 there. But wasn't it 3 605's later in the chase? By the way it wasn't a Xantia in the chase. It was a Citroen XM. Although they look very similar. Mind you, the 405 looks very similar to the 605.

  • Mercedes 450SEL 6,9 probably the best car all categories in the 70's. Back in 1976 road testers couldn't believe such a huge luxury car could behave like a racecar and survive any kind of abuse.

Frankenheimer loved it as did many famous people that owned one of those.

  • They should make a Ronin remake, but than with the 2010 models BMW M5, Audi S8 and Mercedes CLS AMG

  • @kaankoc58 i think these 90s german cars were made for this kind of movies. so i disagree

  • I think the Citroen XM slid too much as it caught the dirt, if you watch carefully at 7.20 you can see the frames jump as the car is instantly straight again, lol, other than that this chase is MAGnifico. Ronin is amazing.

  • the audi and the citroen sound really good

  • Agreed, this movie is awesome and one of the best car chases ever. I just wish they had revealed what was in the case!! :)

  • the best car is the audi S8 6.0 v12 from 1997 with 22's

  • @juankair1 D2 S8 only was available with a V8 4.2. You mean the A8 W12.

  • this movie is a classic!

  • I drive my 300SD like that in the parkade

  • I love old German cars. They all look the same now.

  • @PressAltF4OrElse I know. The BMW in this movie can still blend into the city if it was well kept. So is the Audi.
