I've never seen the Wiz, this version or the broadway version with Stephanie Mills, but I have seen the Wizard of Oz when I was a child, and I was never interested in any of them. But eventhough I like Michael acting in their version, it was full of older people portraying younger people. I think Michael was the youngest person in his version.

@rocknroll773 Well actually, in the original Wizard of OZ Judy Garland was only 17 when she played the part so it wasn't really too much of a stretch. In the movie version of The Wiz Diana Ross is playing a shy, introverted, school teacher, not a child. None of the other characters are children so they should be played by adults

I'm afraid of puppets and they scared the shit out of me. That was my scariest moment in a movie. Return to Oz is a puppy compared with that two dermons!!!

I love MJ with all my heart but I don't think he was ever a good actor. He was too unique of a person for me to get used to him as another person. Even though he is the scarecrow in this movie to me he is just playing Michael. I don't think he could really let go of himself and be another person. He did work hard during the shooting though. @iluvpie20101 I prefer this to the 1939 classic because this movie, even if is located in a city, is more true to the tone of the original book. I mean, I read the book million times and the book is very dark sometimes, just like this movie. I also think that in this movie the characters have more development than the original cast from the 1939 version. The 1939 version is too kid-friendly for me, but is still a classic.
