Sorry this took so long - the third song is "Love Farewell" by John Tams. Can't remember where I got it from now, and have searched but I don't even have a copy any more!
Have seen and bought nearly everything Sean Bean has made - all worth watching just for him but nothing beats Sharpe and the gang. Just watched this vid again and can see and evening of Sharpe ahead of me - does it get any better? the real thing knocking on the front door --- ah well!
Good job, good use of video and audio, i particularly liked the song of arms & the man, the colonel crying and 'the devil shall be my seargent' (sorry i cant remember there names) cheers its great, very subtle not ott.
The French uniforms seem odd. I know BC tried for historical accuracy, and the movies seem to reflect that, even down to the dirt, grit, make due pants etc. And I am sure that the French uniforms are, in detail, accurate. But somehow the overall proportions on the French uniforms seem distorted so that the French soldiers all look a little bit comical. Has anyone else noticed this?
And they most probably got it from Latin. We get a vast number of our words from the French and historically, the French were one of the biggest, most powerful and best armed forces ever.
Oh shut up, you little shit. You haven't a clue. Bit of advise for you, stop paying attention to what the fucking Americans say because I promise you, they only know a tiny bit more than you and that really isn't much.
By the way, try telling the French resistance that they were cowards. They were some of the most heroic people who ever lived.
Resorting to violence? What the fuck are you talking about?? Many countries were conquered or occupied by Germany. You do know that we have been invaded by the French? You do know how many countries the French have conquered?
I'd still like to see this violence I am resorting to. Even funnier considering you are deriding a country because you don't think they are violent enough.
That isn't violence. That's frustration. So, you have changed your point now? The point is no longer that the French are cowards, with little military achievement. Now you just say that they haven't as many victories as us. Well, it's a better point, it's still arguable. The 100 yrs war is an interesting one, we won, eventually but the French were amazing. [cont below]
Then of course the Napoleanic wars, which brought along the first French empire, where they had taken over most of Europe, yes, we won again in the end but that isn't the point. You have William the Conqourer (Norman in fact) and then, when you hear Yanks tell you that they kicked our arses in the revolutionary war they are lying. [cont below]
The Americans were only a tiny part of who we were fighting then. It was mainly the French who beat us in the War of Independance, along with the Dutch and the Spanish but mainly the French. All I'm saying mate is that you should give them more respect. They are historically one of the greatest military countries ever known and though the Germans took them, everyone in the World should have the utmost respect for the heroes of the Resistance!
P.s. I apologise if you thought I was being aggressive in that earlier post. I didn't mean or want it to come out like that. It was merely frustration and anger. You seem like a very intelligent lad and it is good that you are so interested in history at your age. I wish I was as intelligent at 16, instead of going off my head on drink and drugs. It's just frustrating you let your xenophobia or bigotry cloud your intelligence.
I love the Sharpe theme, where the guitars come up. I know it sounds kinda lowbrow, but somehow the electric guitars give it that extra power and passion, to inspire you to howl "FOR KING AND COUNTRY", then run out and hurt some French people and make them cry... or failing that, some foppish prick officers, who make the mistake of making Sharpe angry
This a really brilliant. I had forgotten about John Tams' singing of Love Farewell. It is really glorious - I'm in bits. Tomorrow I'm going to see John play in Twickenham - it would be good if Sean Bean turned up eh? Well done on this.
Sharpe is bloody legendary. I missed out on watching it when it was originally aired due to the usual things ie. beer women etc. I have watched 13 of the 14 episodes in the space of 2 weeks and am trying to hang back watching sharpe's waterloo as I know I'll be gutted when it's over.
Brilliant, I love the films but they made Sharpe seem (IMO) a tad incompetent, being saved by Harper every episode etc...I loved "Company" and "Battle" most I think because they stuck the closest to the books...but with the budget hey had they were brilliant! cant wait fBC to write a new Sharpe book... :D
I think Jane was always a bitch. :D Screw her and the idiot lover. Oh, by the way, do you know that her lover was played by errr.. the same actor who played that character from Buffy and Angel series whose name I've suddenly forgotten...? :D *lol*
And the video is very very good! Nice retrospective!
"By mereit of our rank, who gets the biggest piece of cheese?"

"No, because I bloody hate cheese"
Classic
(Spoilers)
One thing that shocked me is how Jane turns into such a bitch in Revenge/Justice/Waterloo and the finally things she said to Sharpe at the end of Justice really shocked me, such a nice caring character to a bitch.
I was shocked too and you gotta give it to Sharpe, for having the restraint not to curb-stomp her teeth out for that. Still, the horrid cow gets left alone and penniless after Waterloo and Sharpe gets to go home to his nice new wife in Normandy... While I get to point and laugh
Does anyone know where I could watch the films online? I don't think I'll catch any of the repeats due to not owning a tv. And yes when Perkins and Ubadiah died... well I don't think i shall ever forgive them.
Also been watching on UKTV Brilliant series Yes, it had its problems and historical errors and no, someone like Sharpe could never have existed, but Sharpe is damn good fun, down to earth characters and camraderie and ultimately its moral You won't see the like again Today they say we want gritty and terrorists and immature emotionalism instead of stories told for the sake of telling a good story The Sharpe films are a breath of fresh air in this fetid reality TV atmosphere Long may they last.
